There is no verified single Jio-specific cause or guaranteed fix for FFmpeg streams disconnecting from YouTube Live. Diagnose the failure in order: check whether FFmpeg can start, compare its health with YouTube Live’s status, measure upload stability on the Jio connection during the stream, then verify the phone’s mobile-data settings. YouTube recommends keeping total stream bitrate within available upload capacity with 20% headroom.
First identify where the stream fails
Note whether FFmpeg never starts, starts and later disconnects, or continues running while YouTube Live reports an interruption. Record the time and location, FFmpeg’s exact error text, and the status shown in YouTube Live Control Room. This helps distinguish a credentials or ingest problem from an unstable uplink. Do not post your stream key in logs, screenshots, or support requests.
- FFmpeg will not start: check the active YouTube stream key and destination URL first.
- FFmpeg appears healthy but YouTube reports interruptions: investigate outbound upload and connection stability.
- Drops track a particular place, time, or movement: repeat tests under those conditions and compare another connection if available. That pattern is a diagnostic clue, not proof of a Jio network cause.
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder health, stream metrics, and outbound internet. Viewer reports can also help distinguish a problem affecting people on one shared network from one affecting viewers on different networks, but they do not by themselves prove the broadcaster’s uplink is at fault. Check the YouTube key, destination, and protocol
Refresh the stream key if the encoder cannot start
If a third-party encoder has trouble starting, YouTube recommends obtaining a new stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder. Verify that FFmpeg is using the current key and the intended YouTube ingest destination. Treat the key like a password: redact it before sharing command output or logs. Check the endpoint and port for RTMPS errors
RTMPS is RTMP sent through an SSL connection. If FFmpeg reports an SSL error even though the URL looks right, confirm the current endpoint, protocol, and port in YouTube’s live setup. Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide notes that connecting to the wrong port can cause SSL errors. Avoid reusing an old third-party command without checking it against the current YouTube setup.
FFmpeg documents RTMP as multimedia streaming over TCP/IP. Its TCP keepalive option can help detect dead peers; it is not an automatic reconnect feature and does not guarantee stream recovery. Consult the FFmpeg protocol documentation for the options supported by your build.

Measure Jio upload while the stream is running
A speed test taken while idle cannot establish that a mobile connection will remain stable under sustained streaming load. Test outbound performance on the same Jio connection, at the location and during the hours when disconnections happen; where possible, compare a test while streaming with one taken at the same place and time without the stream.
YouTube states that total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. That is an operational recommendation, not a guarantee that a stream will stay connected. - Include the combined outbound bitrate when assessing the stream’s demand.
- Look for changes in upload performance that line up with the disconnect timestamps.
- If available, compare Jio with Wi-Fi or another carrier at the same location and time, using the same stream settings. There is no evidence here for naming a best Indian carrier or a universally effective network device.
Verify Jio mobile-data settings and usage
Android checks
Jio’s Android FAQ advises placing the SIM in an LTE-enabled slot, routing internet through Jio, selecting LTE/4G, ensuring mobile data is enabled, and ensuring the data limit is not disabled in a way that blocks data use. For uninterrupted internet during roaming, the FAQ says to enable mobile data while roaming. These settings checks do not establish that local signal quality or upload capacity is adequate. Apple phone check

Check data balance and contact support
Jio lists video and music streaming and uploading large files among activities that can consume substantial data. For long sessions, check your plan and current balance in Jio’s account tools. If the settings are correct but upload remains unstable, use Jio’s slow-internet support page. Provide the time and location, network mode, repeated upload observations, and whether another connection works. The published page does not establish a specific reset or APN change as a fix for this problem.
Use evidence to choose the next step
- Encoder will not start: refresh the YouTube stream key, update FFmpeg, and verify the destination and protocol. For an RTMPS SSL error, check the endpoint and port against YouTube’s live setup.
- Encoder looks healthy but YouTube reports interruptions: compare YouTube Live status with outbound upload measurements taken on Jio during the stream. Check whether the total bitrate leaves the recommended 20% headroom.
- Drops correlate with location or time: repeat the measurements at the affected place and time, verify the phone settings above, and compare another connection if possible. This helps narrow the cause but does not establish a Jio-wide fault.
- The cause remains unclear: save FFmpeg version/build details and logs with the stream key redacted; record timestamps, YouTube Live status, location/time patterns, and concurrent upload results. Share encoder or ingest evidence with the relevant YouTube or FFmpeg support channel, and uplink evidence with Jio.
