How to Set OBS Playlist Sources for a 24/7 YouTube Education Channel in India

Use OBS’s VLC Video Source to play education videos in sequence and loop them to YouTube Live. This guide covers setup, stream settings, reliability, archives, copyright, and monetization.

To play prerecorded lessons continuously from OBS, add them to a VLC Video Source, enable Loop Playlist, and send the OBS scene to YouTube Live using RTMPS. This keeps the playlist cycling while OBS and the computer remain running; it does not by itself guarantee uninterrupted uptime, a complete YouTube archive, or monetization eligibility.

Before you begin

  • Install OBS and VLC on the computer that will run the broadcast. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video Source; if OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC.
  • Prepare local video files you have the necessary rights to stream. Arrange them in the order you want viewers to see them.
  • Make sure the channel is eligible to go live: YouTube says it must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the person going live must be at least 16.
  • Plan for sustained upload bandwidth and power. A 24/7 stream depends on the computer, OBS, electricity, and internet connection staying available.

See YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance for the channel requirements.

Build and loop the playlist in OBS

  1. Open OBS and select the scene you intend to broadcast. If you do not have one, create a scene for the education stream.
  2. In the Sources panel, select + and add VLC Video Source. Give it a recognizable name.
  3. In the source properties, add the local lesson files to the playlist in the sequence you want. Check that the files are accessible to the computer account running OBS.
  4. Leave Loop Playlist enabled. OBS documents this option as on by default; it restarts the source when it reaches the end of its media list.
  5. Set Shuffle Playlist according to the teaching format. Keep it off for a curriculum that needs a fixed lesson order; enable it only if a random sequence is acceptable.
  6. Review Visibility Behaviour. OBS defaults to stopping playback while the source is not visible and restarting it when visible. If the VLC source will be hidden in another scene but needs to keep playing, adjust the setting and test the transition.
  7. Preview the full scene. Confirm that the video fits the canvas, the audio is audible and balanced, and transitions between files behave as intended. If some videos have no audio, decide whether silent intervals are acceptable for the channel.

OBS documents the VLC source and its playlist controls in Media Sources.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select the stream you will use. Copy its stream key privately; anyone with the key may be able to broadcast to that stream.
  2. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key. Use RTMPS, YouTube’s recommended encrypted form of RTMP, where available in the service or server settings.
  3. Set OBS output resolution and frame rate to match the education videos and your connection. Under Settings → Output, choose an encoder and bitrate appropriate to those settings. YouTube’s recommendations include H.264, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval; its bitrate guidance varies by resolution and frame rate, so use its current table rather than relying on one universal value.
  4. Leave upload headroom rather than running the connection at its full measured capacity. Test with representative video and audio before committing to a long broadcast.
  5. Start the stream from OBS, then check the Live Control Room’s stream preview and health indicators. Confirm the video and audio are arriving before treating the channel as live.

See YouTube’s encoder settings and streaming tips for current technical recommendations.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

When HLS is relevant

For standard education playback, RTMPS is the simpler recommended starting point. YouTube describes HLS as higher latency and gives it additional encoder and transport requirements: TS segments of 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, no byte-range mode, and no encryption other than HTTPS. Do not switch to HLS unless the encoder and YouTube stream settings are deliberately configured for it. Details are in YouTube’s HLS setup guide.

Plan for a true 24/7 operation

Keep OBS and the computer running

The VLC playlist loops only while the source is playing in OBS. A computer shutdown, OBS crash, power cut, or internet failure can stop delivery. Test how your own setup recovers after each likely interruption; YouTube’s guidance calls for adequate upload bandwidth, headroom, test streams, and monitoring, but does not prescribe a particular Indian ISP, UPS size, or hardware setup.

Do not rely on YouTube for a complete 24/7 archive

YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream when it is under 12 hours and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the complete programme matters, record locally and verify that the recording file is being written and contains usable picture and sound. Streaming rights and archive rights may differ, so check both. Read YouTube’s archive guidance.

Rights, live interruptions, and monetization

Clear rights for every element

Use lessons, music, images, and other material only when you have the rights needed to stream them in the relevant territories. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; it may replace a stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate it when it detects such material. A licence does not always prevent an interruption: a rights holder may need to add the channel to a Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and copyright guidance.

A loop is not a monetization shortcut

YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and assess whether content is original and authentic. In its 2025 update, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content”; generic, repetitive, mass-produced, or reused material can be ineligible. Make the educational value and your original contribution clear. Putting existing videos into a 24/7 playlist does not establish that the channel qualifies for monetization. See YouTube’s monetization policies.

Troubleshoot common problems

What you see Likely cause What to check
VLC Video Source is missing or will not load VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS. Install VLC; if OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC, then reopen OBS and check the source again.
The playlist stops after the final lesson Loop Playlist is off, or the source did not reach the end normally. Open the source properties, enable Loop Playlist, and test playback through the last file.
A lesson restarts or stops after changing scenes Visibility Behaviour is stopping the hidden source. Review that option and test the scene change with the source hidden and visible.
YouTube reports poor stream health or the picture drops The sustained upload may be insufficient or variable for the selected output settings. Check the stream-health status, leave more upload headroom, and lower output demands or bitrate according to YouTube’s current settings guidance.
There is video but no sound, or audio changes between lessons A file may have no audio, or the source/audio mix may not be configured as expected. Preview each file transition, inspect OBS audio meters, and confirm the intended audio is included in the scene.
The broadcast ends unexpectedly or is interrupted OBS, the computer, power, or internet may have stopped; third-party content detection can also interrupt a live stream. Check OBS and YouTube status, restore the stream after resolving the interruption, and review rights clearance for every media element.
