For a Punjabi music playlist stream from local files, use OBS’s VLC Video source, enable a two-second keyframe interval and CBR, and set the video bitrate to match YouTube’s recommendation for your resolution and frame rate—then test the full setup before relying on it. OBS can loop a playlist, but uninterrupted playback depends on your computer, internet connection, and broadcast workflow. You also need permission to livestream every track.
Choose a playlist source in OBS
For multiple local tracks: VLC Video
Create a scene in OBS, add a VLC Video source, and add the files to its playlist. VLC must be installed for this source to appear; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS documents that Loop Playlist is on by default for VLC Video. Check that the playlist contains the intended files and that playback advances between tracks.
A source’s visibility behavior can also affect playback: OBS documents that the default is to stop the VLC source when it is not visible and restart it when visible. Keep the source visible in the scene used for the live broadcast, or deliberately check its behavior when switching scenes.
For one file: Media Source
OBS’s built-in Media Source supports local audio and video files. Its individual-file Loop option is separate from VLC Video’s playlist loop. Use it when you want to repeat a single file rather than cycle through multiple tracks. OBS documents these source behaviors in its Media Sources guide.

Set YouTube-compatible video and audio output
Use the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point; it takes hardware resources and network conditions into account. The wizard does not replace a test using your actual files and intended visuals. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends running the wizard, checking the setup, and testing before going live.
Encoder and connection settings
- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS for sending the stream.
- Rate control: Use CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframe interval: Set 2 seconds. YouTube’s encoder settings table says, “Recommended 2 seconds Do not exceed 4 seconds.”
- Frame rate: YouTube’s guidance supports frame rates up to 60 fps. For a static image or simple visual accompanying music, 30 fps is generally the more restrained starting point; use a higher frame rate only if the visuals call for it and your system and connection can sustain it.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. Confirm OBS’s audio meters move while the playlist plays, and listen to a test stream for level and playback problems.

Choose the row that matches your output resolution and frame rate, then use a bitrate your upload connection can sustain consistently. Run an upload-speed test and leave headroom rather than setting the stream at the connection’s measured maximum. If the connection cannot sustain the chosen setting, reduce the bitrate and, if needed, the resolution or frame rate. YouTube’s current guidance, including options beyond the examples above, is in Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Test the playlist and stream before leaving it unattended
- Run a short test with the actual playlist and visuals. Check that the VLC playlist advances and loops, or that the single Media Source repeats as intended. Verify the audio meters move and listen for silence, clipping, or an unexpected gap.
- Start a test broadcast using your intended YouTube stream setup. Check the picture, audio, and stream health rather than relying only on the OBS preview.
- Watch OBS while the test runs. OBS’s help portal explains that a dropped-frame count that keeps rising, or a yellow or red connection indicator, can mean the connection to the streaming server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Reduce the bitrate or output demands, then test again. See the OBS Help Portal.
- Check the actual unattended workflow. Confirm the computer’s power settings, network stability, playlist behavior, and scene visibility suit the planned run. The official guidance cited here does not establish a maximum runtime, guaranteed unattended reconnection, or indefinite uptime; a successful short test cannot promise an uninterrupted long broadcast.

Confirm the music is cleared for livestreaming
Punjabi-language music is not automatically cleared for broadcast just because the files are on your computer or you can play them. Before streaming, confirm that your rights or license cover each track’s use in a live YouTube broadcast, the intended territories, and any archive or monetization you plan to enable. If you cannot establish those permissions, do not put the track in the playlist. A stream’s technical configuration cannot resolve music-rights questions.
