You can make a Dropbox video play continuously on YouTube without keeping a computer on: make the video selectable on a phone or tablet, upload it to YouTube, add it to a playlist, then turn on playlist repeat. This creates looping prerecorded playback—not a YouTube live broadcast—and the video is imported into YouTube rather than streamed directly from Dropbox.
What this method does—and what it doesn’t
A repeating YouTube playlist is a practical way to keep prerecorded video playing in a cycle on a phone, tablet, or TV. It does not create a live broadcast, and it does not keep a channel live 24/7 for viewers when playback stops.
YouTube’s upload flow imports the selected video file into YouTube. The available official guidance does not establish a direct Dropbox-folder-to-YouTube playback connection, so plan on transferring the file to YouTube first. See YouTube’s upload instructions.
Upload a Dropbox video to YouTube from your phone or tablet
1. Make the video available to the device
Open Dropbox on your phone or tablet and use its available save, export, or share-to-device controls to make a local copy if needed. Then check that the file is visible from the device’s file picker. Whether a cloud-only Dropbox file appears directly in YouTube’s picker can vary with the operating system and app versions; that behavior is not established for every combination. If the file does not appear, save a copy to the device and try again.

2. Upload it in the YouTube app
- Open the YouTube app and tap Create, then Video.
- Select the video file from the device.
- Enter the video details and choose its visibility. Select private for your own account, unlisted for people who have the link, or public if you want it discoverable.
- If offered in the upload flow, add it to an existing playlist or create a playlist. You can also do this after uploading.
- Review the upload network setting. YouTube’s Android app offers a choice between Wi-Fi and mobile-network uploads; the iPhone/iPad guidance includes a Wi-Fi-only setting. For a large documentary file, use reliable Wi-Fi when practical to avoid consuming mobile data.

Create a playlist and set it to repeat
Create or choose the playlist
On Android, YouTube documents creating a playlist from the You tab or from a video. Give it a title, choose its privacy, and add the uploaded video. Private playlists are visible only to their owner; use unlisted or public if other people need access. See YouTube’s playlist instructions.

Loop the whole playlist
- Open the playlist and start playback.
- In the mobile player, tap the playlist control box, then tap Loop.
- Check that the control is set to repeat the playlist. A second tap switches to repeating only the current video, which is different from cycling through the full sequence.
YouTube also supports repeating a playlist on a TV or console: open the playlist’s player controls and choose Repeat • Playlist. The control steps are documented in YouTube’s loop instructions.
Play it on a TV without a PC
Use the YouTube app installed on a smart TV or streaming device, find the playlist, and start playback there. Alternatively, cast from the YouTube mobile app. YouTube says you cannot cast from youtube.com in a mobile browser. If your phone and TV are not on the same Wi-Fi network, YouTube’s TV-code option can link them. Follow YouTube’s smart-TV guidance for the current pairing controls.

Playlist repeat versus an actual live stream
Use playlist repeat when the goal is cycling through prerecorded videos. A live stream is a separate broadcast workflow. YouTube’s current mobile live-stream guidance requires at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, live streaming enabled, and no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Common problems and fixes
- The Dropbox file is missing from YouTube’s picker: Save or export a local copy through Dropbox, then reopen YouTube and select it from the device.
- The upload is slow or using too much data: Choose Wi-Fi uploads where available and use a stable connection. Large video files can take substantial time and data to upload.
- Only one video repeats: Tap the loop control again as needed and verify it indicates playlist repeat, not current-video repeat.
- The playlist is not visible to others: Check its privacy setting. A private playlist is only visible to its owner; choose unlisted or public if others need to watch.
- Casting does not start from a phone browser: Open the YouTube mobile app and cast from there, or use the YouTube app on the TV.
Other cloud playback is a separate option
Google Drive documents playback of uploaded videos in its Android app, subject to supported formats and resolution or network constraints. That is Drive playback, not evidence of direct Dropbox-to-YouTube playback or a looping YouTube playlist. YouTube’s offline downloads are also a separate feature: availability is limited to eligible videos and selected regions, with periodic reconnection required under YouTube’s rules.
