To make donation messages speak during a livestream, enable text-to-speech (TTS) for the donation or tip alert in your alert service, add that service’s alert overlay to your streaming scene, and test it before going live. The steps below use Streamlabs; OBS can display the alert through a Browser source without requiring an alerts plugin.
Set up donation TTS in Streamlabs

In the Streamlabs dashboard, open Alert Box and select Tips. If you want speech for Twitch Bits instead, select Bits.

Open the event’s Text-to-Speech settings. TTS is off by default, so enable it.

Set the minimum tip amount that should trigger speech and choose a voice. Streamlabs’ guide, dated November 5, 2025, says the service offers more than 50 voices, including multiple languages; this is Streamlabs’ feature claim and may change. See Streamlabs’ TTS setup guide.

Review the spam filter, profanity filter, and any custom-word settings. Streamlabs says its default profanity filter prevents filtered words from appearing on screen and being spoken. Because donor messages are viewer-submitted, check these controls before enabling speech.
Add the alert to your streaming scene
The TTS setting controls what the alert service does with a qualifying message; the alert overlay must also be present in the scene you broadcast.
OBS without the Streamlabs plugin

In Streamlabs, open the Alert Box settings and copy the widget URL.

In OBS, select the scene where alerts should appear, then use Sources > + > Browser.

Create the Browser source, paste the widget URL into its URL field, and set dimensions suitable for your overlay. Position and resize it in the scene as needed.

Use Streamlabs’ dashboard test function and live preview to verify that the alert appears and its message is spoken.

OBS Project documents the same provider-neutral pattern: configure an alert overlay with a service, copy its URL, and add it to OBS as a Browser source. It lists Streamlabs and StreamElements as examples and says an alerts plugin is not required. See the OBS Stream Layout Tutorial: Alerts & Chat Box.
Streamlabs Desktop or OBS with the plugin
Streamlabs documents two alternatives to a Browser source: add an Alert Box from Sources in Streamlabs Desktop, or add the Alert Box widget when using the Streamlabs plugin in OBS. Follow the relevant option in Streamlabs’ alerts setup guide.

Trigger a test alert and confirm both parts work: the on-screen alert appears in the intended scene, and the message is audible in the stream mix.

If speech is cut off, Streamlabs’ guide suggests turning off the spam filter. That may allow messages that the filter would otherwise block, so weigh the trade-off and test again.

Check voice, minimum amount, and moderation settings with a test message before broadcasting. Streamlabs warns that viewer-submitted TTS can be used to troll creators; filtered or abusive messages can disrupt a live program.
StreamElements and other alert providers
StreamElements is another relevant option: its quick-start guide covers overlays, alerts that can include donation text, and chat TTS through its loyalty system. However, that guide does not provide a complete current click-by-click setup for donation-triggered TTS. Do not assume that a chat redemption or loyalty TTS feature is configured the same way as donation-alert speech. See the StreamElements Quick-Start Guide.

When choosing or configuring a provider, check whether it supports speech for the event you mean—tips, Bits, or a chat redemption—and whether it offers controls such as a minimum amount, voice selection, message filtering, and an overlay URL or software widget. OBS itself does not require a particular alert provider.
Troubleshooting

| Neither alert nor speech appears in OBS | Confirm the Alert Box or Browser source is in the scene being broadcast. For a Browser source, check that the correct widget URL was pasted and that the source has usable dimensions. |
| The message is cut off | Streamlabs suggests disabling its spam filter when messages are cut off. Reassess the moderation trade-off before leaving the filter off. |
| A filtered word is missing or not spoken | Review the profanity and custom-word filters. Streamlabs says words caught by its default profanity filter are neither shown nor spoken. |
