You can loop a playlist into YouTube Live with an encoder such as OBS: prepare authorized local media, connect OBS to a YouTube stream using its URL and private stream key, and enable playlist looping. The essential first step, though, is rights clearance. A song being publicly available, purchased, or playable in a consumer app does not grant permission to broadcast it continuously.
Before setup: clear the rights and check channel access
Do not begin with the playlist. YouTube’s livestream terms require you to have all necessary rights to exploit the live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Depending on the recordings and intended use, permissions may also need to cover public performance and the territories where the stream will be available. YouTube’s terms are at YouTube’s Terms of Service.
A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and a stream may be interrupted or terminated. If a rights owner has licensed the use, ask whether your channel must be added to that owner’s Content ID allowlist. YouTube explains its live-stream copyright process at Copyright issues with live streams. The official guidance does not identify an Ilaiyaraaja-specific clearance route or list track-by-track rights holders, so determine the relevant rights holders and permissions for each recording and composition you plan to use.
- Verify the channel and confirm it has not had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Allow up to 24 hours for first-time live-streaming access to activate.
- Get permission for the actual recordings, compositions, continuous live use and intended territories. Owning a copy of a song or a storage device does not establish streaming rights.
YouTube’s eligibility and activation steps are covered in Get started with live streaming.

Prepare a playlist of authorized local files in OBS
For a playlist-based broadcast, use media files you are authorized to stream. OBS’s VLC Video source can play a list of local media files and restart when it reaches the end. VLC must be installed for the VLC source to appear in OBS. The source guide documents the playlist controls and supported media workflow: OBS Project media sources.
- Install VLC if it is not already installed, then open OBS.
- In the intended scene, select Sources, choose +, and add VLC Video Source.
- Give the source a descriptive name. Add the authorized video or audio files to its playlist using the source properties.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled, or turn it on if it has been changed. OBS documents this control as restarting the source when it runs out of media; its documented default is On.
- Preview the scene and check that both video and audio play as intended. Confirm the list restarts after its last item before relying on it for a long broadcast.
Check the current OBS guide for compatible formats rather than assuming every file will play. If you have a large authorized media library, an external drive can be a convenient storage option, but it is not required for OBS or YouTube Live and does not confer broadcast rights.

Create a YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule one.
- In the stream’s encoder settings, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service and enter the stream key and server details as requested. If OBS offers the YouTube account connection workflow, you can use that instead.
- Keep the stream key private. It is the credential that lets an encoder send a feed to your channel; do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast there.
- Start the encoder feed and check the Live Control Room preview before starting the public stream. Confirm the correct scene, playlist, audio and title are in place.
YouTube’s encoder workflow and stream-key guidance are in Stream using an encoder. YouTube may update the Live Control Room interface, so follow the current labels shown in your account.
Set the encoder, connection and monitoring for a long stream
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings for the resolution, frame rate, codec and protocol you select. Avoid copying an old preset without checking it against the current guidance at Live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions. The suitable bitrate depends on those choices; there is no single setting that is right for every stream.

- Test with audio and motion similar to the planned broadcast, not only a static opening frame.
- Make sure available upload capacity exceeds the selected stream bitrate and leaves room for other network traffic. YouTube recommends bandwidth headroom and a reliable connection in its live streaming tips.
- Use the Live Control Room preview to check picture and sound before going public, then monitor stream health and audio/video quality while live.
- For a local encoder, the computer, OBS, media storage and internet connection all need to remain available for the intended runtime. YouTube and OBS do not guarantee that a particular home setup will stay live for 24 hours.
Understand playlist looping, rights checks and replays
Looping media is not rebroadcasting YouTube videos
OBS’s VLC source loops local media files. That is different from rebroadcasting videos played from YouTube itself, and neither method provides music rights. A public YouTube playlist, a personal purchase or access through a consumer music app is not proof of permission for a continuous livestream.
A 24-hour stream is not guaranteed to become a replay
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not promise automatic archiving for streams lasting 12 hours or more, so do not count on a complete replay of a 24-hour broadcast. If keeping a replay matters, arrange a separate recording workflow and confirm current platform behavior. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.

Choose between running OBS locally and a cloud stream
With OBS, you keep local control of the playlist and scene, but you are responsible for keeping the computer and network available. A hosted encoder can avoid the need to leave a home computer running; check any service’s current features, costs and ingest requirements before choosing it. The official YouTube and OBS guidance does not establish a measured cost or reliability winner between these approaches.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream running from uploaded videos in the cloud. Upload your authorized recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams media as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price regardless of quality; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded video and streams to YouTube only; it does not clear rights to the music, so the same permissions and YouTube copyright rules apply. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.

Troubleshooting common setup problems
- VLC Video Source is missing in OBS: install VLC, then reopen OBS and check the source list again.
- The playlist stops at the last file: open the source properties and enable Loop Playlist; test that it restarts before the live broadcast.
- YouTube receives no feed: check that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current stream key, and that the feed has been started. Keep the key private and replace it in OBS if you reset it in YouTube.
- The channel cannot start a live stream: confirm verification and eligibility, check for live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Playback is unstable or stream health is poor: check the upload connection, reduce competing network use, and verify encoder settings against YouTube’s current settings for the chosen resolution and frame rate.
- The stream is interrupted after music is detected: a playlist loop does not override Content ID or copyright controls. Review the rights for the identified material and, if it is licensed, ask the rights owner whether channel allowlisting is required.
- The 24-hour broadcast has no complete replay: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed archive at 12 hours or more. Use a separate recording if you need a copy.
