How to Prepare Low-Resolution Videos for a 24/7 YouTube Stream on 4G in India

A practical guide to encoding low-resolution videos, measuring 4G upload capacity, estimating data use, and testing a 24/7 YouTube stream in India.

Prepare the video as a constant-frame-rate 360p or 480p H.264 file with AAC audio, then set its streaming bitrate below the stable upload speed measured on the actual 4G connection. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom; a speed test at one moment is not proof that a mobile link will stay reliable all day.

Choose a resolution and bitrate for the content

For a 24/7 stream over cellular, start with 360p or 480p at 30 frames per second (fps). The lower resolution can reduce the upload requirement, but it does not determine bitrate by itself: motion, fine detail, and the encoder’s settings affect how much data is needed for acceptable image quality.

Output YouTube H.264 recommendation When it may suit
360p at 30 fps 0.4–4 Mbps Consider for relatively simple visuals or when the connection is constrained; check that detail remains legible.
480p at 30 fps 0.4–4 Mbps A modest starting point when 360p is too soft and measured upload capacity allows it.
720p at 30 fps 3–8 Mbps Consider only if the content benefits from the extra detail and the connection can sustain the higher rate with headroom.

These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate ranges, not guarantees that a particular bitrate will work on a given SIM or at a particular location. The 360p and 480p ranges overlap, so choose based on the picture and the stability you can actually achieve. [YouTube encoder settings and bitrate recommendations]

Prepare the video file

  1. Choose the output raster and frame rate. Common 16:9 examples are 640Ă—360 for 360p and 854Ă—480 for 480p, both at 30 fps. These dimensions are practical examples, not mandatory YouTube dimensions. Use progressive scan and constant frame rate to avoid unnecessary variation in the source.
  2. Encode video as H.264. A constant bitrate (CBR) setting is part of YouTube’s recommended encoder configuration. Select a target bitrate appropriate to the content and confirmed connection capacity.
  3. Set keyframes and audio. YouTube recommends a keyframe every 2 seconds and says the interval should not exceed 4 seconds. For broad compatibility, use stereo AAC audio; YouTube recommends 128 Kbps for stereo. [YouTube encoder settings]
  4. Check the finished file. Keep a copy of the final export and play it from start to finish in the encoder or playback workflow you intend to use. Verify that both sound and picture are present and that the file loops or advances through the playlist as intended.

Calculate the upload speed and mobile data you need

Base the stream on measured upload capacity, not the advertised download rate. YouTube says the stream’s total bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% headroom. Include audio and any other simultaneous uploads when estimating the total. [YouTube streaming tips]

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

With 20% headroom, a 1 Mbps total stream target calls for at least 1.25 Mbps of stable upload capacity (1 Ă· 0.8); a 2 Mbps target calls for 2.5 Mbps. These are arithmetic examples, not performance measurements. If other devices share the connection, their upload traffic also consumes capacity.

For data planning, a sustained 1 Mbps stream transfers about 10.8 decimal GB in 24 hours, or about 324 GB in 30 days. At 2 Mbps, the estimates are about 21.6 GB per day and 648 GB per 30 days. These calculations exclude protocol overhead, reconnects, other device traffic, and bitrate variation, so real usage can be higher. YouTube’s encoder bitrate recommendation does not determine how a carrier counts data.

  • Check your Indian provider’s current coverage at the exact installation location.
  • Read the specific plan’s data allowance and any fair-use, throttling, or other usage terms directly with the provider.
  • Do not assume advertised peak speed or a single successful speed test reflects sustained upload performance.

Test the 4G setup before relying on it

  1. Test where the encoder will sit. Use the intended SIM, phone or router, antenna placement, and power source. Run repeated upload speed tests rather than relying on one result.
  2. Run an unlisted stream with representative material. YouTube recommends testing before going live. Include audio and motion similar to the actual program so the test reflects the workload. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators for problems such as dropped frames or reconnects. [YouTube encoder testing guidance] [YouTube live-streaming tips]
  3. Repeat at different times. Mobile performance can vary. Testing during different periods at the intended site is a practical way to see whether the chosen bitrate leaves enough margin; it cannot guarantee uninterrupted service.
  4. Confirm local recording if you need a backup. If your setup records an archive locally, YouTube’s tips say to check that the archive file size is growing. Do not assume an individual 24/7 event will be archived or retained in a particular way; the cited guidance does not establish those limits.

Make sure the channel can go live

YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take at least 24 hours after the request, so enable it ahead of the planned start and confirm that the preview appears before making the stream public. [YouTube: Get started with live streaming] [YouTube live-streaming tips]

Follow YouTube’s copyright rules for everything in the video and audio, including music, footage, and other material you did not create. A 24/7 format does not make reused or copyrighted material permissible. Review the permissions and terms for each asset before scheduling a continuous stream.

Plan for outages and long-running streams

A single 4G connection is a single point of failure: a weak signal, carrier interruption, power loss, or device problem can interrupt the feed. If continuity matters, consider a separately tested backup link or a backup encoder, and test the failover before depending on it. YouTube specifically recommends testing encoder failover for events that use it; whether another SIM or network is worth the cost depends on local coverage and plan terms. [YouTube live-streaming tips]

YouTube’s guidance about a limit on the number of live streams a channel can create in 24 hours does not establish how long one event can run or what archive behavior applies to a continuous stream. Check your account and current YouTube guidance for the workflow you plan to use rather than treating the daily creation limit as a duration rule. [YouTube live-streaming tips]

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely issue What to check or change
Dropped frames or unstable stream health Upload capacity is too low or fluctuating, or other traffic is competing for bandwidth. Reduce the video bitrate, leave the recommended 20% headroom, pause other uploads, and repeat an extended test at the installation site.
Stream disconnects and reconnects Mobile service, power, or encoder connection is interrupted. Check signal and power at the encoder; test another placement or a backup connection if available. Do not assume one test proves all-day reliability.
Picture is blocky or fine detail is unreadable The bitrate may be too low for the content’s motion or detail. Test a higher rate within YouTube’s recommended range only if measured upload capacity supports it with headroom; otherwise simplify the image or use a lower-resolution presentation.
Preview does not appear Channel eligibility or stream setup may be incomplete. Confirm verification and live-streaming eligibility, allow at least 24 hours for first-time activation, then recheck the encoder connection and preview.
Local archive appears stalled The local recording may not be progressing. Check whether the local archive file size is growing and verify available storage and recording settings.

Or let it run in the cloud
