Best Low-Power PC for a Budget 24/7 YouTube Channel in India

An N100 mini PC may suit a modest continuous YouTube stream, but check the delivered price, measure whole-PC power use and test the exact workload first.

An Intel N100 mini PC is a sensible starting point for a modest, pre-recorded 720p or 1080p YouTube stream—but it is not a proven budget winner until you confirm its price, measure its real electricity use and test the full workload. One India-market example is Thinvent’s Treo N100 with 8 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, Ubuntu, passive cooling and gigabit Ethernet. Its listing asks buyers to request a quote, so its current delivered price is not established.

Which low-power PC should you consider?

Intel N100 mini PCs

An N100 system is a plausible fit for one continuous stream of pre-recorded video with modest overlays and a straightforward encoder setup. The processor reference lists four efficient cores, four threads, boost up to 3.4 GHz, a 6 W base-power rating and Quick Sync encoding. That describes the processor, not the power draw of the complete PC, and it does not prove that every N100 machine can handle every OBS scene, codec or concurrent workload. Sustained all-core work and 3D graphics are weaker fits for this class. Intel’s N100 specifications provide the processor details.

India-market example: Thinvent Treo N100

Thinvent’s listing describes a Treo configuration with an Intel N100, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Ubuntu Linux, fanless passive cooling, gigabit Ethernet, a 12 V DC input and a 12 V / 5 A adapter. The adapter rating is not a measurement of normal system consumption. The listing requests a quote rather than publishing a current price, so compare a delivered quote, warranty and seller support before treating it as a budget purchase. See the Thinvent Treo N100 listing.

Check fit before buying

For a documentary channel, a single pre-recorded programme or playlist is a lighter and more predictable task than gaming capture, multiple live inputs or a complex multi-camera production. Still, sustained operation depends on the exact machine, encoder, media and network—not just the CPU model.

  • Confirm that the chosen encoder supports the PC’s operating system and the workflow you need.
  • Check RAM, SSD capacity, wired Ethernet, ventilation, warranty and available seller support on the exact configuration.
  • Test the actual video files, audio, overlays, resolution, frame rate and bitrate before relying on the system.
  • Test what happens after a reboot, encoder failure, internet interruption or power cut, and make sure you can monitor or recover the stream remotely.

The available product information does not establish an endurance test of this Treo configuration. Treat an N100 as a candidate to evaluate, not a demonstrated 24/7 machine.

Set YouTube and the encoder up for the intended stream

YouTube accepts live streams from encoder software or standalone hardware. For a first live stream, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before your planned start. In your encoder, enter the YouTube server URL and stream key from the live-stream setup flow; keep the key private and do not paste it into public posts or screenshots. YouTube describes encoder streaming for external audio/video hardware, screen sharing, gameplay and more advanced productions. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the setup.

Use settings that match the source and connection

YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data to and through Google’s servers. For RTMP/RTMPS it recommends constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. Its H.264 bitrate recommendations include:

Output YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate
720p at 30 fps 6 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps

These are recommended stream-input bitrates, not guarantees that a particular internet plan or Wi-Fi connection will sustain a stream. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as video codecs; the figures above are specifically for H.264. YouTube also transcodes live streams into formats for viewers. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrates.

Test with audio and movement similar to the real programme, then monitor stream health while live. A static title card may not reveal problems that show up during fast motion or music. Make sure the video and audio are yours or cleared for use: a stream key and successful connection do not grant rights to documentary footage, music, photographs or other material. YouTube’s encoder guide advises testing before going live, and its settings guidance covers stream health and encoding settings.

Estimate the real cost of running a PC

Do not use the N100 processor’s 6 W base-power rating as the PC’s electricity consumption. Nor does the Treo’s 12 V / 5 A adapter label tell you what it draws from the wall during a stream. Measure the complete PC at the wall while it runs the intended encoder, resolution, bitrate and audio workload.

  1. Use a plug-in wall power meter and record the average watts during a representative stream—not just at idle.
  2. Convert that reading to kilowatt-hours: average watts Ă— hours Ă· 1,000. For a 24/7 month, use the actual number of days in the billing period.
  3. Multiply kilowatt-hours by your electricity tariff to estimate energy cost; include any applicable fixed charges separately.

The PC’s purchase price, measured wall draw, local tariff and current hosted-service alternatives are not established here, so a universal cheapest option cannot be calculated honestly. Add purchase cost, replacement risk, maintenance time and the cost of your own internet and backup power to the comparison.

Compare a local PC with other ways to keep a stream running

Approach What it changes What to verify
StreamNeo cloud service Uploads and loops pre-recorded videos to a YouTube channel from the cloud, so a home PC does not need to stay on. It is the first alternative to consider if avoiding local hardware and recovery work matters; it supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free. Confirm that a cloud workflow for uploaded video suits your channel; it is not a camera-to-live service.
N100 mini PC Runs an encoder locally and gives you control over the machine and production setup. Delivered price, actual wall draw, reliability under your workload, local power and internet continuity, and recovery setup.
Standalone hardware encoder Can stream without using a general-purpose PC as the encoder. Whether the exact device fits your budget and supports your needed input and workflow. Blackmagic’s documentation lists direct Ethernet streaming, H.264 RTMP and H.264/H.265 SRT, and YouTube among compatible services; it does not establish a budget price. Blackmagic ATEM Television Studio HD8 documentation.

For a local PC, prefer stable wired Ethernet where possible; the Treo listing specifies gigabit Ethernet. A PC cannot protect a stream from a home power or internet outage unless you plan for those failure modes. A hosted workflow shifts the always-on machine off-site, but still depends on the service and YouTube.
