A 24/7 YouTube live channel needs a continuous feed from an encoder or streaming service; YouTube does not automatically loop an uploaded video for you. The basic setup is to enable live streaming, create a stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder with YouTube’s server URL and stream key, test the feed, and keep the encoder or service running. For prerecorded programming, make sure you have the rights to every video and audio asset, and do not assume that looping content will qualify for monetization.

Before you start: check your channel’s live-stream access

YouTube’s current eligibility guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and says streamers must be at least 16. If this is your first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours. Check access before scheduling a launch: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and getting-started guidance.

  • Verify the channel and confirm that live streaming is available in YouTube Studio.
  • If live streaming is restricted, resolve the restriction rather than trying to bypass it.
  • Allow for the first-time activation delay before your planned start.

Choose how the channel will stay live

The key operational decision is where the feed runs. A local software encoder gives you direct control, but the computer, encoder, power, and internet connection must keep working. A hardware encoder is a dedicated alternative for production workflows; it still needs a reliable connection and an operating plan. A cloud service can send prerecorded programming without requiring your home computer to remain on. Compare options by local power and internet dependence, recovery behavior, supported video settings, scheduling and monitoring, total cost, and how archives are handled. YouTube lists software and hardware encoder options and names Gyre as an example of a cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-video service; that listing is not an endorsement or confirmation of a provider’s current pricing or reliability (YouTube live streaming tips; YouTube’s encoder setup guide).

Set up a continuous stream with an encoder

  1. Prepare the feed. For a prerecorded channel, organize the videos you have permission to broadcast and decide how the encoder will play or loop them. For a live camera or other live production, configure that source in your encoder. YouTube receives the encoder’s output; it does not create a continuous loop from an upload on its own.
  2. Create the stream in YouTube Studio. Open Create → Go Live, then configure or schedule a stream in Live Control Room. Copy the stream server URL and stream key shown for the event.
  3. Connect the encoder. In the encoder’s streaming or destination settings, select YouTube or a custom RTMP destination as appropriate. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key, then save the settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Keep it private and reset it if it is exposed. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
  4. Set video, audio, and network parameters. Choose a resolution and frame rate your connection can sustain, then select the matching bitrate for your codec and quality in YouTube’s current encoder settings table. For H.264, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are H.264 recommendations for those specific settings, not universal bitrates for every codec or resolution. YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends RTMPS for encryption, constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and no more than 4 seconds between keyframes. Check the current table for other combinations rather than extrapolating from the H.264 examples.
  5. Allow bandwidth headroom. Your available upload bandwidth must exceed the total stream bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% headroom, so do not set a stream bitrate that consumes nearly all of a connection’s measured upload capacity. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
  6. Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check that both video and audio are present, that motion looks right, and that the stream-health indicator does not show a problem. YouTube advises testing before starting the stream (encoder settings guidance).
  7. Start the broadcast and verify it as a viewer. Start the stream in Live Control Room when the preview is correct. Open the channel or watch page on another device to confirm viewers can see and hear the intended feed.

Keep the feed running and plan for failures

A 24/7 broadcast is an operating process, not just a successful first launch. Decide who or what will notice a dropped feed, how the encoder will be restarted, and how you will confirm that the stream has recovered. A local setup can be interrupted by computer restarts, power loss, encoder crashes, or a home internet outage; plan for those risks rather than assuming the encoder will recover by itself. Periodically check Live Control Room, the viewer-facing watch page, audio, video, and the current program in the playlist.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Keep original media files and a separate copy of the playlist or schedule so a service or device failure does not erase your source material.
  • Test recovery before relying on the channel continuously: confirm what happens after an encoder restart or temporary network interruption.
  • If an interruption occurs, check the encoder output and internet connection, then confirm that the correct event and stream key are still selected before restarting.
  • For a stream that matters operationally, establish a regular human review routine; an automated connection alone cannot confirm that the right content, sound, and picture are being sent.

Can YouTube archive a 24/7 live stream?

YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not establish what archive result to expect for a continuous event longer than 12 hours, so do not rely on a complete YouTube archive for a nonstop stream. If archives matter, preserve the source files independently and consider whether your programming can be divided into shorter events. See YouTube’s encoder guide.

Rights, reused content, and monetization

Before broadcasting a loop, confirm that you have permission for every video, music track, image, and other asset in it, including the intended live-stream use. A continuous broadcast made from prerecorded material raises rights and monetization questions; technical setup guidance alone does not establish whether a specific channel or program will be eligible for monetization. Do not assume that looping content increases watch time, guarantees recommendations, or makes reused material monetizable. You can use the copyright safety checklist to review permissions before scheduling content.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The service loops the feed in the cloud, so no computer, OBS, or home connection has to stay on. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. Common setup problems and fixes

Symptom What to check Fix
No preview appears in Live Control Room. Confirm the encoder is running and that the server URL and stream key match the stream you created. Correct the destination details, restart the encoder output, and wait for the preview to reconnect.
The feed drops or becomes unstable. Check available upload bandwidth against the total stream bitrate, plus the encoder’s connection status. Reduce the selected quality or bitrate to a sustainable setting and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom.
Video looks choppy or has poor quality. Compare the selected codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate with YouTube’s current settings table. Choose a compatible combination the connection can maintain; avoid copying a bitrate recommendation for a different codec or frame rate.
Audio is missing or wrong. Inspect the encoder’s selected audio source and codec, then listen to the Live Control Room preview. Select the intended audio input and supported AAC or MP3 encoding, then test again before the broadcast.
The stream key may have been exposed. Consider whether it was shared, displayed, or stored somewhere others can access. Reset the key in YouTube’s live stream settings and update the encoder with the replacement.
The stream ends after a local outage or restart. Check whether the computer, encoder, power, or internet connection stopped sending. Restore the source and connection, restart the encoder output, then verify the preview and watch page before leaving the setup unattended.

Estimate the workload before launch

A long-running channel needs enough time to upload source files and enough bandwidth to send the outgoing stream. Use the upload-time calculator to estimate the upload stage and the cloud vs. PC cost calculator to compare operating approaches. For hardware, a dedicated encoder is optional rather than a YouTube requirement; YouTube supports software encoders as well as hardware devices (YouTube live streaming tips).
