Best OBS Settings for a 24/7 YouTube Music Radio Stream on Airtel Broadband

Start with 720p30 H.264 at 3,000 kbps, CBR, two-second keyframes, and AAC stereo at 128 kbps—but verify stable Airtel upload and leave YouTube’s recommended headroom before running 24/7.

For a low-motion 24/7 music stream, start with 1280×720 at 30 fps, H.264, CBR at 3,000 kbps, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo at 128 kbps. YouTube’s live-encoder guidance recommends those video settings for 720p30 and 128 kbps for stereo audio. They are a test profile, not a promise that every Airtel connection can sustain a stream: the deciding factor is stable upload capacity, with headroom—not the plan’s advertised download speed.

At this profile, allow about 3.9 Mbps of stable upload for the stream plus YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, before accounting for household traffic or another stream. If your upload varies, lower the video bitrate or resolution and test again.

Recommended OBS settings for a low-motion music stream

This baseline suits an audio-led broadcast with a still image, simple visualizer, or other slowly changing graphic. YouTube’s published live-encoder guidance recommends 3 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval. It recommends 128 kbps AAC stereo audio and 44.1 kHz for stereo. The choice of 30 fps is a practical recommendation for a low-motion radio visual, not a requirement; YouTube supports up to 60 fps.

Setting Starting value Why it fits this stream
Output resolution 1280Ă—720 A suitable starting resolution for a simple radio visual.
Frame rate 30 fps Usually sufficient for a static or slow-moving graphic.
Video encoder H.264 YouTube’s cited live-encoder recommendation covers H.264.
Rate control CBR Constant bitrate is recommended in YouTube’s live guidance.
Video bitrate 3,000 kbps YouTube’s recommendation for H.264 at 720p30; reduce it if the measured upload or stream health requires it.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds.
Audio AAC, stereo, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz YouTube’s cited guidance for stereo live audio.
Ingest protocol RTMPS, where supported YouTube’s guidance prefers RTMPS when available.
Stream latency Normal A sensible fit when the broadcast does not need live audience interaction; lower latency can mean more playback buffering.

Set the profile in OBS

OBS labels can vary by version and selected encoder. Check the values in the streaming output, video, and audio settings before starting the broadcast; choosing a hardware or software encoder does not change the target bitrate or keyframe interval.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Set the video canvas and output. Open Settings > Video. Set the output resolution to 1280Ă—720 and the common FPS value to 30. If the base canvas is larger, make sure the output is still 1280Ă—720 so OBS is not sending an unintended higher-resolution stream.
  2. Configure streaming output. Open Settings > Output and select the streaming settings. Choose an H.264 encoder and CBR rate control; set the video bitrate to 3,000 kbps and the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. If a stable hardware H.264 encoder is available, it can reduce CPU work; otherwise use software encoding with a preset that leaves adequate CPU headroom. YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe a specific OBS encoder implementation or preset.
  3. Set the audio format. In OBS audio and streaming-output settings, use AAC stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. Confirm that the intended music source reaches the stream mix and that the meter is active without clipping.
  4. Choose the YouTube ingest connection. In the YouTube Live Control Room, select or create the stream and use its stream key in OBS. Use RTMPS if the option is available. A stream key gives an encoder permission to send a feed; keep it private and do not include it in a public screenshot, recording, or shared document.
  5. Start with Normal latency. For a radio-style programme, immediate audience interaction is usually not essential. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering, so choose it only if interaction needs outweigh that trade-off.
  6. Run a private or unlisted test before committing to 24/7. Test with the actual audio and representative visual movement, then check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and listen to playback. A settings screen cannot reveal all problems with the music source, local audio routing, encoder load, or connection.

Work out what your Airtel upload can sustain

YouTube recommends leaving roughly 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. It also cautions that download speed is often higher than upload speed and that the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload capacity. For the 3,000 kbps video plus 128 kbps audio baseline, the arithmetic is 3,128 kbps divided by 0.8, or about 3,910 kbps—roughly 3.9 Mbps of stable upload. This is a minimum planning figure for the stream under that headroom rule, not a guarantee; other household use, protocol overhead, and additional streams need more capacity.

  1. Measure upload, not just download. Run several upload tests at different times using the same wired or Wi-Fi setup planned for the stream. YouTube specifically advises testing upload bitrate.
  2. Use the stable result, not the best result. Keep approximately 20% of measured stable upload capacity free. If speeds fluctuate, household devices are busy, or YouTube reports stream-health warnings, lower the video bitrate or resolution and retest.
  3. Check your own Airtel plan and account terms. Airtel’s published broadband plans show different maximum speeds by plan and geography, with examples from 40 Mbps to 1 Gbps. These are advertised maximums, not measured upload guarantees. Your access type, location, congestion, and account terms matter. Airtel also says the prescribed speed is not assured at all times and can vary for network or technical reasons.
  4. Check the current Fair Usage Policy (FUP). Airtel’s Xstream Fiber terms page currently surfaced in 2026 states a threshold of 3333 GB in a billing cycle, after which speed is reduced to 1 Mbps; it also says the FUP may be amended. Confirm the terms that apply to your specific account before relying on that threshold. At a continuous 3 Mbps video bitrate, the video alone uses about 0.97 TB over 30 days (3 megabits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8, in decimal units). Audio and protocol overhead add to that estimate.
  5. Test through the conditions you expect to run. Observe a sustained private or unlisted test and monitor stream health, rather than deciding from a brief speed test alone. Test with the same sound and amount of visual motion as the intended broadcast.

Adapt the profile to your visual and equipment

If the Airtel upload is inconsistent

Lower the video bitrate first, then lower output resolution if needed, and repeat the test. Do not try to compensate for unstable upload by increasing bitrate. A wired Ethernet connection is a reasonable troubleshooting step if Wi-Fi is unreliable because it removes the wireless hop; it will not fix a weak Airtel line, congestion, power loss, or account throttling.

If the visual has meaningful motion

Thirty frames per second is aimed at a static or slow visual. If your graphics move substantially, test the motion at the intended frame rate and inspect playback. A higher frame rate may require more encoding capacity and bandwidth; do not raise it without rechecking the connection and encoder load.

If the encoder struggles

Reduce output resolution or frame rate, or select a less demanding encoder preset. Hardware and CPU/GPU capacity vary, so no one preset can be guaranteed without knowing the machine and testing it during a representative run.

If music quality is the priority

Start with the cited 128 kbps stereo AAC guidance. You can test a higher audio bitrate if it suits your production, but it increases total bandwidth. Recalculate the upload headroom using the combined audio and video bitrate before going live.

Protect the channel and the music rights

Using OBS or a 24/7 format does not grant permission to broadcast music. Use recordings and artwork you own or are licensed to stream on YouTube, and check that the licence covers continuous live use in the territories you target. A track being available to listen to online is not evidence that you can rebroadcast it. YouTube may identify or restrict material, and a claim or interruption can affect a long-running stream. Keep your licence records and a fallback playlist of cleared material available.

Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions. Permission to use a recording does not by itself establish that a channel or repetitive radio format meets YouTube’s monetization policies, including its rules concerning reused content. Review the policies applicable to your channel rather than assuming that a technically continuous stream qualifies.

Troubleshoot in this order

Symptom Likely checks What to do
Dropped frames or network warnings Upload headroom, other household traffic, Wi-Fi stability, or network/security software disruption. Pause avoidable network use, test Ethernet if Wi-Fi is suspect, then lower bitrate or resolution and retest. OBS and YouTube both emphasize connection reliability.
Encoder overload CPU/GPU load or a demanding output resolution, frame rate, or preset. Reduce output resolution or frame rate, or choose a less demanding encoder preset. Confirm stability in a test run.
Silent, distorted, or clipped audio Wrong OBS source, inactive audio meter, local routing, or levels that peak. Check the OBS meter and monitoring path, confirm the source loop is active, and make a test recording or private stream before going public.
Speed falls after a period of streaming Account usage or an applicable FUP threshold. Check Airtel account usage and the current plan terms. Do not assume “unlimited” means the advertised speed remains available regardless of usage.
Stream ends after a power interruption The computer or router lost power. Restore power and restart the encoder and stream. A UPS may help, but its capacity depends on the actual equipment draw and the runtime required; there is no universal sizing recommendation here.
Stream is live but playback buffers Network stability, bitrate relative to the connection, or a latency mode poorly suited to the audience. Check YouTube stream health, reduce bitrate if needed, and use Normal latency for a radio stream without a strong need for immediate interaction.

Cost and continuity trade-offs

With OBS on Airtel, the computer, encoder, router, and internet connection all need to stay available for the stream to continue. The monthly data estimate above is for the 3 Mbps video alone, not a bill estimate; actual account limits and costs depend on the plan and current terms. You can estimate transfer time for source files with the upload-time calculator, and compare home-computer and cloud-running costs with the cloud vs PC cost calculator.
