You can stream to YouTube with FFmpeg over JioFiber, but choose your video bitrate from the upload speed your connection can sustain—not its advertised download speed. Create a YouTube live stream, copy its current ingest URL and stream key, configure FFmpeg for a supported format, then test privately before broadcasting. JioFiber alone does not establish what upload rate your particular connection can deliver.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and a stream created or scheduled in YouTube Studio.
- FFmpeg installed on the computer sending the stream. Its available encoders and protocols depend on how that build was compiled.
- A video source, such as a file, webcam or screen capture. The example below is for a prerecorded file; capture-device inputs require platform-specific FFmpeg options.
- A stable outbound connection with enough sustained upload bandwidth for the stream and other network use.
This method sends an encoded feed from your computer to YouTube. The computer and its internet connection must remain available for the duration of the stream.
Create a YouTube stream and get its credentials
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule the broadcast.
- Open the stream settings and copy the ingest URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the current values in Studio, not an endpoint copied from an old guide. YouTube describes stream keys as password-like credentials used by an encoder to send the feed. YouTube: Manage live stream settings
- Treat the key as a secret. Do not post it publicly or include it in a screenshot or shared command. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update FFmpeg with the replacement.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers creating a stream and connecting an encoder: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Choose a bitrate your JioFiber connection can sustain
Measure upload performance on the same computer and network you will use to stream. Repeat the measurement near the planned broadcast time and account for household traffic: the speed available to your encoder can be lower than a headline plan rate, and a fluctuating connection can interrupt delivery. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% of upload bandwidth free beyond the stream bitrate. Treat that as headroom, not a guarantee of stability. Its guidance is at YouTube: Streaming tips.

As of YouTube’s encoder guidance accessed October 3, 2026, these are its H.264 bitrate recommendations for common resolutions. They are platform recommendations, not measurements of JioFiber performance; the listed minimums do not guarantee a stable stream on a fluctuating line. YouTube: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
| Resolution and frame rate | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
For example, a recommended 8 Mbps video bitrate calls for roughly 10 Mbps of available upload capacity if you reserve 20% above the stream bitrate. That calculation leaves no allowance for another simultaneous upload, so use a lower bitrate or reduce competing network traffic if the measured connection cannot sustain it.

Balance resolution, motion and available bandwidth
More pixels and higher frame rates can need more bitrate. If upload results vary, begin with a lower resolution or frame rate—such as 720p30 rather than 1080p60—and test with representative motion and sound. Choose an output your computer can encode reliably as well as one the connection can upload. YouTube’s current encoder page lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, but the command below uses H.264; support for a codec depends on the installed FFmpeg build.
Configure FFmpeg for YouTube Live
For a prerecorded file, this template uses real-time input pacing, H.264 video, AAC audio and FLV output. Replace the example values with a bitrate and output format suited to your test results, and substitute the exact current ingest URL and stream key from YouTube Studio.

For YouTube’s SDR guidance, use Rec. 709. The current encoder recommendations also list AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP(S), CBR video encoding, frame rates up to 60 fps and a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds). Verify the current settings at YouTube’s encoder settings page, since platform recommendations can change.
Run a private test, then monitor the broadcast
- Start with a private or unlisted test stream. Use video movement and audio resembling the intended broadcast; a static or silent test may not reveal problems that occur with the real content.
- Check the YouTube Studio preview and stream-health messages while FFmpeg is running. Confirm that both picture and sound arrive correctly before making the stream public.
- Watch the connection during the test, especially if other household devices are active. If health degrades or frames are lost, lower the video bitrate or resolution and test again.
- During the live event, keep the sending computer connected and monitor YouTube’s stream health. YouTube notes that shared network use can reduce the bandwidth available to an encoder and interruptions can break a stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
JioFiber-specific checks and limits
A JioFiber connection’s provider name does not establish its upload rate, account-specific upstream limit or stability at a particular time. The information available here does not establish a JioFiber-specific FFmpeg endpoint or a router setting required for YouTube ingest. Measure your actual outbound performance and judge it by a real test stream.

Ordinary outbound RTMPS streaming is a connection from your encoder to YouTube. The cited setup and protocol documentation does not establish a need for inbound port forwarding or a public/static IP. If FFmpeg cannot connect, investigate the actual computer, firewall, VPN, router or ISP-path error rather than assuming a general JioFiber requirement.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg fails before connecting | Input path, device permissions, encoder availability or protocol support. | Check the input filename or capture-device access; verify that the build includes the selected encoder and RTMPS support; confirm the output URL format. |
| YouTube does not receive a feed | Ingest URL or stream key is wrong, stale or incomplete. | Copy the current URL and key from the stream’s settings in YouTube Studio. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and replace it in the command. |
| Stream health is poor or the feed drops | Insufficient or fluctuating upload capacity, including bandwidth used by other devices. | Reduce bitrate or resolution, limit competing uploads and repeat a private test. Compare the stream bitrate with measured upload capacity while preserving YouTube’s recommended headroom. |
| Picture arrives but audio is missing or unsuitable | Input audio selection, mapping or encoding. | Check that the source contains an audio stream and that FFmpeg is sending it. Confirm the selected audio codec and settings against YouTube’s current encoder guidance. |
| The feed connects but the picture is unstable or the computer struggles | Encoding load or output settings the computer cannot sustain. | Try a lower resolution or frame rate and test again; confirm the FFmpeg build and chosen encoder are appropriate for the computer. |
These are troubleshooting steps based on the documented encoder and network requirements, not diagnoses tested on a specific JioFiber plan or router.
Keep the broadcast eligible and safe to run
Technical compatibility does not grant rights to the video or audio you stream. Use content you own or have permission to broadcast, and check YouTube’s current policies and account requirements before scheduling a public event. The stream key is also a credential: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to the associated stream, so keep it private and reset it if compromised.
