First check whether the YouTube broadcast ended or whether it stayed live while the video stopped advancing. Those are different failures: YouTube’s encoder guidance explains that a stream ends when the encoder stops sending content, but it does not document why a particular playlist or looping app stops after one video. Check the event and source player before changing 4K settings.
Find out what actually stopped
When the first video ends, inspect both YouTube and the software supplying the video. YouTube’s guidance recommends monitoring stream health and messages and checking the preview before starting. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says to end a stream by stopping content transmission from the encoder; it does not establish that this is what happened in your case.
- If the YouTube event ended: check whether the encoder or streaming app is still running and sending content. Note the event status and any stream-health message.
- If the event is still live but the video has stopped or failed to advance: investigate the source player, playlist, loop or continuation setting, and any automation controlling playback. The YouTube sources cited here do not document the controls in third-party players, so no particular setting can be identified as the confirmed fix.
- If the preview and public watch page differ: record what each shows and when. That helps separate an ingestion problem from playback or source behavior.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive guidance does not explain a one-video loop stopping; it is separate from identifying whether the live event ended.
Check 4K60 ingestion as a separate issue
Resolution and frame rate settings affect the video feed sent to YouTube; the published guidance does not say they control whether a source playlist repeats. If the event ended or the feed is unstable, verify the settings against the codec actually in use. YouTube’s live encoder settings for 2160p (4K) at 60 fps specify:

YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. It also says 4K streams use normal latency, rather than the low-latency option. Confirm the codec and current encoder values before making changes; these settings are not loop controls.
Rule out upload bandwidth and stream-health problems
YouTube recommends that total stream bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth and suggests leaving 20% headroom. Its streaming tips also warn that network disruption can break a stream. Run an upload speed test and check Live Control Room stream health and messages. A bandwidth issue is one possibility if the broadcast ended or became unstable, not proof of why a video failed to repeat.

Before changing settings, test with representative motion and audio, then monitor the preview and stream health. Capture the encoder or app name and version, ingestion protocol, codec, bitrate, event status, and the exact message at failure. YouTube’s guidance recommends testing with similar audio and motion and monitoring the stream; that evidence makes the next diagnostic step more targeted.
Check HLS requirements only if your encoder uses HLS
Do not change protocol-specific settings unless the encoder is actually sending HLS. For HLS ingestion, YouTube specifies TS segments lasting one to four seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. YouTube notes that HLS sends video in segments and has higher latency than continuous RTMP. These requirements concern delivery to YouTube; they do not establish a general cause for a source playlist ending after one video. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion requirements.

What to include when asking for help
To narrow down the cause, report the following details rather than describing the issue only as a “4K loop” problem:
- Whether the YouTube event ended or stayed live after the first video finished.
- Whether the preview continued, froze, went black, or showed an error.
- The encoder or playlist app and version, plus the ingestion protocol (such as RTMP or HLS).
- The codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and any stream-health message.
- What the source player did at the video’s end and which loop or continuation behavior it is configured to use.
Without the source software, encoder, protocol, event status, and error message, it is not possible to distinguish a source-loop configuration problem from a stream transmission or encoder problem. YouTube’s public setup guidance helps assess the broadcast path but does not document third-party loop-player behavior.
