How to Fix a YouTube Resolution Warning on a 24/7 Bhajan Stream

A practical fix for YouTube resolution warnings: compare ingestion settings with the encoder’s actual dimensions, then check bitrate and plan a separate archive for a 24/7 stream.

Match the resolution selected in YouTube Live Control Room’s ingestion settings to the actual width and height your encoder sends. Check both sides: changing only YouTube’s setting or only the encoder can leave the mismatch in place. If the warning also mentions bitrate, treat that as a related but separate issue and check the settings and upload capacity for your chosen quality.

What the resolution warning means

YouTube compares the incoming video dimensions with the resolution selected in the stream’s ingestion settings. A warning that the resolution “is not optimal” calls for checking whether the current setting is appropriate. A message that it “is not supported for this configuration” and states an expected resolution points to a mismatch to correct. The expected value shown in your Live Control Room is specific to your stream; the exact incorrect dimensions cannot be determined without seeing your encoder output and stream settings. YouTube’s resolution troubleshooting guidance describes these cases.

Fix the resolution mismatch

  1. Read the exact warning. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room for the stream. Note the warning text and any expected resolution it names. YouTube says health errors are timestamped and remain visible if not fixed; red errors are critical, while yellow errors are moderate and may reduce quality. YouTube’s stream health guidance explains the indicators.
  2. Check the selected ingestion resolution. In the stream’s Live Control Room, open Ingestion Settings and note the selected resolution.
  3. Check what the encoder actually sends. Inspect its output width and height—not just the resolution label in a preset. Make the encoder dimensions match the selected ingestion resolution, or select an ingestion resolution that matches the encoder’s actual output.
  4. Check automatic versus manual detection. YouTube recommends automatic detection by default. If you deliberately chose a manual resolution, YouTube says to use a custom stream key with manual settings enabled under Stream Resolution. Confirm both that setting and the encoder output. YouTube’s encoder settings guide covers automatic and manual resolution choices.
  5. Test before the next public broadcast. Run a private or otherwise suitable test with the same audio, video movement, resolution, frame rate, and connection conditions you expect during the bhajan stream. Watch the Live Control Room’s health panel for new errors after the change.

Automatic and manual resolution: which should you use?

Approach YouTube setting What to verify
Automatic detection YouTube automatically detects incoming resolution and frame rate; this is the recommended default. Confirm the encoder sends the intended dimensions and check the health panel for warnings.
Manual selection Use a custom stream key with manual settings enabled under Stream Resolution. Make the encoder’s actual width and height match the manually selected ingestion resolution.

These behaviors and recommendations are from YouTube Help; the exact option available for your stream depends on its configuration.

If the health panel also reports a bitrate problem

A bitrate warning is not the same as a resolution mismatch, though limited upload capacity can make a high-quality stream unstable. Check the recommendation for your codec, resolution, and frame rate, then compare it with your encoder’s bitrate and the upload capacity available to the stream. YouTube advises considering a lower selected resolution when available bandwidth is insufficient. YouTube’s encoder recommendations are configuration-specific; use the row that matches your stream rather than treating one bitrate as universal.

For H.264, YouTube Help lists recommended video bitrates of 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommendations, not guarantees of a stable feed. The accessed page displayed no publication date; figures are from YouTube Help as accessed October 3, 2026. Check YouTube’s current table for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually use.

  • YouTube’s current guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video; up to 60 fps; AAC or MP3 audio; and CBR bitrate encoding.
  • It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
  • The specific error shown for your stream may set a more specific requirement. Follow that stream-specific guidance where it differs from a general recommendation.

Keep a separate archive plan for a 24/7 channel

Fixing resolution does not ensure that YouTube will preserve a complete recording of a continuous broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends keeping a local archive as a backup, and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The 12-hour figure and guidance are from YouTube Help, whose accessed page displayed no publication date (accessed October 3, 2026). If a complete bhajan broadcast archive matters, record and manage a separate local copy rather than relying on an automatic YouTube archive. YouTube’s live archive guidance has the details.

Common problems and what to check

  • The warning remains after changing a resolution dropdown: the encoder may still be sending different dimensions, or the stream may use a manual custom key with a different resolution. Verify the incoming width and height against the selected ingestion value.
  • The encoder preset says the right resolution, but YouTube still flags it: inspect the actual output dimensions and confirm the stream is using the key and settings you edited. Labels alone do not establish what is being sent.
  • Resolution matches but quality is unstable: check for a separate bitrate warning, compare bitrate with YouTube’s recommendation for the chosen codec and frame rate, and test available upload capacity. If it is insufficient, consider lowering the selected quality.
  • The warning appears during a test or after a settings change: monitor Live Control Room health messages while the stream is running; they describe the incoming feed and can reveal whether the change resolved the issue.
  • You need the full recording of a continuous broadcast: do not assume the automatic archive will capture a stream longer than 12 hours; arrange local recording and archive management.
