What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Yes. YouTube’s published guidance does not impose a blanket ban on continuous or 24/7 live streams. But permission is conditional: your channel must be eligible, the stream must follow YouTube’s rules, and you must have the rights to everything you broadcast. The main practical catch is that a stream lasting more than 12 hours may not be archived, and viewer rewind may be limited or unavailable.
What YouTube permits—and what it does not guarantee
YouTube’s live-stream terms require live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and require creators to hold the necessary rights for worldwide use on Google services, including relevant music rights. The terms also apply to archived content. A continuous stream is therefore not automatically permitted just because the video is live or loops continuously: the material, account and use still have to comply with applicable rules and laws. Read YouTube’s live-stream terms.
YouTube may restrict live-stream access for policy or copyright violations. Its guidance identifies issues including active copyright strikes, a match to another copyrighted live broadcast, Community Guidelines strikes and age-related rules. If your channel has an active live-stream restriction, YouTube says you cannot get around it by streaming from another channel. See YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-stream restrictions.
Who can start a YouTube live stream?
YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance says a creator must be at least 16, have a verified channel and have had no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. It also lists limits of up to 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key at the same time. Those are eligibility and concurrency limits—not a stated maximum duration for one broadcast. Check YouTube’s current live-stream setup guidance before planning a stream, since platform requirements can change.

The 12-hour archive and rewind caveat
Do not treat 12 hours as a stream-length ban
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. It warns that “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” That is an archive warning, not a rule that a live stream must stop at 12 hours. If keeping a recording matters, make and retain a local recording rather than relying on YouTube’s archive. Read YouTube’s archive guidance.
Viewers may not be able to rewind
YouTube’s DVR documentation also warns that rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Device and platform conditions may reduce the available DVR experience further. This matters if viewers are expected to catch up on a long broadcast from an earlier point: an always-on live feed is not a substitute for a reliably available replay. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Copyright and reused material still matter
Before scheduling a continuous broadcast, confirm that you have the rights to every video, image and audio track in it, including music. YouTube’s terms require the rights needed for worldwide exploitation on Google services; owning a copy or finding material online does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. Rights problems can lead to interruption or restrictions on live streaming.
Also consider whether a looping or largely repetitive programme fits the rules relevant to your channel and content. Live-stream permission is not a guarantee that a channel or its content will qualify for monetization. Keep records of licences and permissions, and use material you created, licensed for this use, or are otherwise entitled to broadcast.

Can a 24/7 stream earn money?
Only if the channel and content meet the applicable monetization requirements. For eligible monetized channels, YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when stream monetization is on; mid-roll ads can be automatic, scheduled or manual. Ad placements are not guaranteed to receive an ad. Super Chat, Super Stickers and memberships may be available to eligible channels, subject to YouTube’s rules and availability. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization options.
Live streams are covered by YouTube’s channel monetization policies, and ad-supported content must also meet advertiser-friendly guidelines. Broadcasting around the clock does not guarantee monetization approval, ad delivery or a particular revenue level. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Keeping a YouTube channel live continuously
You can use an encoder-based workflow for a live production, but a dedicated hardware encoder is optional—not a YouTube requirement for 24/7 streaming. YouTube’s tips describe encoders as a way to support higher-production-value events and recommend professional-grade hardware encoders in that context. Whatever setup you choose, plan for power, connectivity and a local recording if continuity or an archive matters. The cited YouTube guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted operation for any particular device. Read YouTube’s encoder tips.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist streaming to YouTube from the cloud: upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera. See StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
