To multistream from OBS, send your live feed either directly to each platform or to a cloud relay that distributes one OBS feed to several destinations. First confirm YouTube live access, gather each platform’s current stream URL and key, then test the complete setup at the resolution, frame rate, and audio settings you plan to use. The right method depends on your computer’s capacity, upload connection, number of destinations, and how much control you need.
Choose how OBS will reach multiple platforms
There are two broad approaches: have your local setup produce and send streams to the destinations, or send one feed from OBS to a cloud relay that distributes it. YouTube describes local encoding as a fit for people who want control and potentially the highest quality and have a powerful computer. A relay can simplify distribution and reduce the workload on your computer.
| Consideration | Local OBS output | Cloud relay |
|---|---|---|
| Where the work happens | Your computer handles stream encoding and output. | OBS sends a feed to the relay, which distributes it to selected destinations. |
| Control and computer load | More direct control, but more work for your computer. | Less distribution work on your computer; the relay handles delivery to destinations. |
| Destinations | Multiple simultaneous streams are possible, subject to system capacity and each destination’s requirements. | YouTube suggests considering a cloud service when streaming to more than two channels. |
| Cost | YouTube’s guidance does not set a universal cost. | YouTube says services often require a subscription; some free plans have limitations. Check the service’s current terms. |
Neither approach removes the need to check each platform’s current ingest requirements. YouTube’s simulstreaming guidance discusses the trade-offs at Stream across platforms.
Confirm YouTube is ready for a live encoder
Before configuring OBS, verify that the channel is verified, live streaming is enabled, and the channel has not had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. For a first activation, YouTube says enabling live streaming may take at least 24 hours after the initial request. Check the current eligibility details in YouTube’s live streaming getting started guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the channel’s active-stream capacity
YouTube’s current help guidance states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; both limits apply at the same time. These are YouTube limits, not a relay service’s destination or plan limits. If another stream cannot start, check whether either YouTube limit has been reached. See YouTube’s encoder streaming limits.
Gather the stream details for every destination
- YouTube: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. YouTube provides a server URL and stream key for an encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in screenshots or public documents.
- Other platforms: Sign in to each account and confirm it is active and in good standing. Find that platform’s current live or encoder instructions, including its RTMP server URL and stream key if required. Requirements vary, so rely on the platform’s own documentation rather than assuming one platform’s settings apply to another.
- Record destination settings securely: Keep each URL and key clearly labeled and private. If a key is exposed, use the platform’s account tools to replace or reset it before going live.
YouTube’s encoder workflow and verified encoder information are described in its live encoder setup guidance.

Set up and test the OBS-to-platform workflow
The exact OBS controls depend on the OBS version and whether your chosen workflow uses a plugin, another encoder component, or a relay. Destination services and platform ingest support also change. Use the current instructions for the particular OBS setup and services you select; the steps below describe the decisions and checks without assuming a specific plugin configuration.
- Choose the distribution route. For local output, configure OBS and the selected supported workflow for the destinations you intend to stream to. For a relay, configure OBS to send one feed to the relay, then set the destinations in the relay according to its current instructions.
- Use the intended picture and sound settings. Set the resolution, frame rate, audio, and other encoder options you plan to use for the broadcast. Verify the output requirements for each destination; do not assume every platform accepts identical settings.
- Check upload capacity in realistic conditions. YouTube says sufficient upload speed is critical and recommends testing with audio and video active as they will be during the broadcast. There is no universal upload-speed target for every multistream setup: required capacity depends on the resolution, bitrate, and whether your local workflow sends separate outputs or one feed to a relay.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test. Use the intended settings and destinations. Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators, then confirm that every other destination receives the expected picture and sound.
- Start the public broadcast only after the test passes. Confirm each destination is receiving the stream, that audio is present, and that YouTube shows healthy delivery before relying on the stream for viewers.
Understand bandwidth and computer limits
With local output, your computer performs the encoding work and your internet connection must support the outputs your chosen workflow sends. A cloud relay receives one feed from OBS and handles distribution onward, which can reduce the local computer’s workload. In either case, test with the actual audio and video active: a speed test performed under different conditions may not represent broadcast capacity.

Do not choose an upload target without specifying the stream resolution, bitrate, and destination arrangement. YouTube’s advice is to test realistically rather than rely on a single speed figure for all streams.
Common problems and what to check
- YouTube live access is unavailable: Check channel verification, live-stream enablement, and any live-stream restriction in the last 90 days. For a first-time request, allow at least 24 hours for activation.
- A new stream will not start: Check YouTube’s concurrent limits: 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key, applying simultaneously. Also verify the destination’s own account and service limits.
- A destination does not receive the stream: Recheck that its current RTMP server URL and stream key are entered in the intended workflow and that the account is in good standing. Do not reuse YouTube’s destination details for another platform.
- The image or sound differs between destinations: Inspect the settings and ingest requirements for each destination, and repeat the test with the exact resolution, frame rate, and audio planned for the broadcast.
- The stream becomes unstable under load: Test upload capacity with the complete broadcast active. If encoding or distribution is overwhelming the computer, consider a cloud relay; it shifts distribution work away from the local machine, though its destination, plan, and output limits must be checked separately.
- A stream key may have been exposed: Treat it as compromised. Replace or reset it through the platform’s account controls, then update the encoder or relay configuration.
Copyright and YouTube policy checks
Before simulstreaming, confirm that you have the rights needed for the video, music, images, and other material in the broadcast, and review the rules of every destination. A stream accepted by one platform is not automatically cleared for another. YouTube’s live-stream eligibility and encoder guidance should be checked alongside its applicable channel and content policies; do not assume that a live format changes the rights status of material you do not own or have permission to use.
