If an India-hosted server is important, start by evaluating Contabo: its official locations page lists an India data center. Hetzner may still be a good fit from Singapore or another available region, but the cited Hetzner documentation does not establish an India location. Neither provider’s traffic allowance or published port-speed language proves that a particular server will sustain a stable YouTube stream. Check the exact plan terms and test the route from your own setup before relying on it.
What matters most for an always-on stream
For 24/7 streaming, distinguish the server’s job before comparing plans. A server that encodes video from a source file needs enough compute capacity to encode continuously. A server that relays an already encoded feed has a lighter compute task, so network stability and reliable process recovery matter more. The title does not specify which workload you have, so there is no defensible one-size-fits-all server size.
Location is a useful first filter, but it is not a performance verdict. A nearby data center may reduce some network distance; it does not establish the quality of the route from your ISP to YouTube’s ingest endpoint. Test the actual region, plan, bitrate, and stream workflow you intend to use.
India location: what the providers establish

Hetzner
The cited Hetzner traffic documentation gives traffic details for multiple regions, including Singapore, but does not establish an India region. Check Hetzner’s live configurator for current location availability. Singapore is worth evaluating if the plan and measured route suit your stream; do not assume it will perform better or worse than Contabo without testing. [c004]
Traffic allowance is not sustained upload speed
For a continuous stream, estimate outbound data before choosing a plan. At a constant bitrate of B megabits per second, a stream sends approximately B × 10.8 decimal GB per 24 hours, before protocol overhead. For example, 6 Mbps works out to about 64.8 GB per day, or roughly 1.94 TB over 30 days. This is arithmetic, not a provider-published allowance. Add any other outputs, uploads, backups, or traffic from applications on the server.
Contabo’s traffic language
Contabo says there is no default bandwidth limit, subject to its fair-use policy. Its support page lists VPS/VDS port speeds from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps and says throttling may occur in exceptional or disruptive cases. [Contabo support: bandwidth limits] [c001]

Its legal terms separately caution that the actual bandwidth available to an individual server is not guaranteed unless expressly agreed. Hetzner’s included traffic
Hetzner’s traffic page lists 20 TB for several EU Cloud product families, with lower plan-dependent ranges for US and Singapore locations. The page was last changed on 2024-05-21, so check the current allowance, product family, region, and overage terms for your exact plan before purchasing. An included traffic quantity does not, by itself, establish the stable upload rate a particular instance can sustain. [c004]

The two availability figures are not directly equivalent: they use different measurement periods and terms. Neither commitment means your stream will be uninterrupted, and neither controls YouTube ingest availability. Read the agreement’s measurement method, exclusions, scope, and remedies rather than comparing percentages alone.
Test the route and stream before depending on it
- Choose the workload and target settings. Decide whether the server will encode or relay, then select a YouTube resolution, frame rate, and bitrate using YouTube’s recommended encoder settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate, and a two-second keyframe interval that does not exceed four seconds. Its table includes a 6–30 Mbps recommendation range for 1440p at 60 fps; this is encoding guidance, not a guarantee about either provider’s network. [c002]
- Check the exact plan terms. Confirm the region is selectable, the plan’s traffic allowance or fair-use conditions, overage terms, and published port speed. Do not infer sustained throughput from a port-speed label or traffic allowance.
- Run a representative extended stream. Use the actual source, audio, bitrate, frame rate, and YouTube ingest workflow. YouTube advises testing with representative audio and motion; monitor stream health and dropped frames throughout rather than relying on a ping test alone. [c002]
- Measure what matters. Record dropped frames, reconnects, stream-health warnings, and whether the server holds the target bitrate over time. Repeat at a time and over a path relevant to your normal operation. No single short test can establish long-term reliability.
- Prepare recovery. Use reconnect or restart automation for your streaming process and decide how you will restore the stream if the server or YouTube connection fails. If interruptions carry significant consequences, plan a backup path.
When to start with each provider
Start with Contabo if India hosting is a priority
Its listed India location makes it the clearer first option for evaluating an India-hosted server. Before committing, confirm the exact plan’s location, port and traffic conditions, and run the extended test from your intended workflow. Evaluate Hetzner if its region and measured route fit better
Hetzner’s Singapore option may be worth testing if its current plan economics, compute, and route to YouTube work better for your setup. Its published traffic allowance alone cannot settle that question; validate both the current plan terms and sustained stream behavior.
Troubleshooting a stream that will not hold
- Traffic use approaches the plan allowance: calculate the stream’s monthly outbound volume at its configured bitrate, then include other server traffic. Recheck the exact region’s allowance and overage terms.
- Bitrate fluctuates or dropped frames appear: test the same stream at a lower target bitrate, check server and route conditions, and monitor YouTube stream health. A large port-speed figure does not prove stable throughput to ingest.
- The stream repeatedly disconnects: inspect the streaming process logs and YouTube’s stream-health status; verify that reconnect or restart handling works. Provider availability terms do not guarantee an uninterrupted application or ingest session.
- Encoding overloads the server: if the server encodes rather than relays, test the actual codec, resolution, frame rate, and preset under sustained load. Choose capacity based on that trial rather than assuming a general plan label guarantees encoding performance.
- A location is unavailable for the selected plan: check the provider’s live configurator and select only a region and SKU actually offered at checkout. Availability can differ by product.
