Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The first checks are whether your channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and has no Community Guidelines strikes. If you can open the Redirect control but cannot choose another creator’s live stream, ask that channel to allow your channel to redirect viewers to it. YouTube lists both sender eligibility and recipient permission as requirements; the precise cause on an individual channel depends on its current Studio status and settings.
First identify what is unavailable
“Live Redirect unavailable” can describe three different problems. Check which one you see before changing settings:
| What you see | First check |
|---|---|
| The Redirect control is missing | Sender eligibility and whether you are editing a live stream or Premiere in YouTube Studio. |
| The control is there, but another channel’s stream is not listed | That channel’s redirect permissions and whether the target is available to select. |
| You configured a redirect, but viewers do not move after the stream ends | Confirm the redirect is set on the intended source and target, then allow time for the audience’s screen to reload. |
These are diagnostic checks, not a ranking of the most common causes. YouTube’s public guidance does not establish which cause is most frequent.
If the Redirect control is missing
Check the sender requirements
YouTube Help says the creator sending a redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. The threshold is more than 1,000, not exactly 1,000. If either condition is not met, the channel does not meet the stated eligibility requirements for sending redirects. YouTube’s Live Redirect instructions describe these requirements.

Make sure you are editing a supported source
You set up a redirect on a source live stream or Premiere in Studio. Open the source item’s editing screen and look under Customization; the setting is not a general switch for every video on the channel.
If another channel’s stream is missing from the target list
Ask the receiving channel to authorize you
Sending and receiving redirects have separate controls. A channel of any size may receive redirects, but the receiving channel controls who may send viewers to its live stream. YouTube says the recipient can allow channels it subscribes to, all channels, or specifically approved channels. The subscribed-channels choice depends on the recipient’s subscriptions being public. A manually approved list can include up to 100 channels. Ask the creator or channel manager to check whether your channel is allowed. YouTube Help explains the permission choices.

Check that the destination is selectable
YouTube’s current setup instructions allow a Premiere or another channel’s live stream as a destination. If the intended stream does not appear, verify that it is still available to select in Studio and that the recipient has authorized your channel. The feature’s 2022 rollout announcement described targets as live or upcoming at that time; treat that announcement as historical context rather than a guarantee of current availability rules. Current setup instructions are the better guide to the choices available in Studio.
Set up the redirect in YouTube Studio
Redirect your live stream or Premiere to a target
- Open YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Select Live.
- Find the source live stream or Premiere, choose Edit, then open Customization.
- Under Redirect, select Add and choose the available Premiere or another channel’s live stream.
- Save or confirm the change if Studio prompts you, and check the source item’s settings again before it starts or ends.
The same general route applies when the source is a Premiere. YouTube’s help page, How to use YouTube Live Redirect, documents the setup.

Allow other channels to redirect viewers to your content
- In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Community.
- Review the redirect permissions under Channel Settings.
- Choose whether to allow subscribed channels, all channels, or specific approved channels, then save the setting.
YouTube says the all-channels option cannot be combined with the subscribed-channels option or the manual approved list. If a creator says your channel cannot redirect to them, they need to check this receiving-side setting.
Check live-stream access and account status
If the eligibility and permission checks do not explain the problem, inspect your channel’s current status in Studio and any notices from YouTube. Live-streaming access can be restricted for policy, copyright, or other reasons. YouTube advises creators to check for strikes and current live-stream access; restriction notices include information about appeal options when applicable. Its restriction guidance concerns live-streaming access generally, so it does not prove that every restriction specifically hides the Redirect control. YouTube’s live-stream restriction guidance explains status checks and restrictions.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If viewers are not redirected after the stream ends
Check that the redirect is configured on the source stream or Premiere you are actually ending and that the selected destination is the intended one. YouTube advises viewers to wait about two seconds for their screens to reload after a live stream ends; that is a viewing tip, not an eligibility rule or a guarantee that every redirect will work. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance includes the reload advice.

What you can—and cannot—diagnose from the error alone
The message or missing control by itself cannot establish the cause for your channel. Subscriber count, strike status, Studio access role, account restrictions, recipient permissions, and the target’s availability can change or be specific to the account. Check those details in Studio, and ask the receiving creator to verify their permission settings if the target is another channel’s stream.
Or let it run in the cloud
Live Redirect is a YouTube Studio audience handoff, not a way to keep a pre-recorded stream running around the clock. For a separate need—keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube 24/7—StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
