OBS Studio for local production
YouTube lists OBS Studio as open-source recording and streaming software. It is a suitable Larix alternative when the stream comes from a camera, screen, or produced program on a computer. It is not a cloud playout service: the computer running OBS and a working connection must remain available for the stream to continue.

Gyre and Upstream for cloud streaming
YouTube lists Gyre and Upstream as cloud options for continuous streaming, and describes Gyre specifically as a way to stream prerecorded videos without a dedicated PC. These are the closest category match when your main requirement is cloud-based continuous playback. The available information here does not establish their current prices, account limits, or support terms, so check their own current documentation before choosing.
AJA HELO Plus for dedicated hardware
YouTube’s encoder listing describes AJA HELO Plus as a standalone encoder that can stream scheduled prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. Restream as a distribution layer
Restream’s documentation describes using RTMP details with compatible encoders such as OBS and vMix to connect an encoder feed to channels. Consider it when distribution to connected destinations is the problem to solve. It should not be confused with a content source or an unattended video-playout system.
Questions to settle before choosing
- Is the source live or prerecorded? A live camera or show needs capture and, possibly, production controls. A playlist that must repeat unattended needs playout.
- Must a computer stay on? A computer encoder depends on the local machine and connection. A cloud service or suitable standalone hardware changes that dependency.
- Do you need production controls? If you need to switch multiple inputs, OBS or vMix is the more relevant type of tool than a simple prerecorded-video loop.
- Do you need a relay? If the encoder already creates the program but distribution is the missing piece, a service such as Restream may be relevant.
- What do current terms allow? Confirm current prices, limits, support, and account requirements directly with the provider. Product listings and capabilities can change.
Reliability, YouTube setup, and content rights
A product appearing on YouTube’s verified-encoder list establishes a documented capability, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation on your network, for your source material, or on your account. Before leaving a stream running, confirm that the channel is able to go live and that the selected encoder or service is connected to the intended YouTube stream. Use only video and audio you have the rights to broadcast. A continuous loop does not exempt material from copyright rules or YouTube monetization policies, including rules concerning reused content. Review YouTube’s current requirements and your channel’s status rather than assuming that a technically working stream is automatically permitted or monetizable.
Common problems and what to check
- The stream will not start: confirm YouTube live access, the selected broadcast and stream, and that the stream key was copied into the correct encoder or service.
- A computer-based stream stops when you leave: the local computer, encoder, or internet connection may have stopped. For unattended playback, use a workflow that does not rely on that local setup.
- The stream is live but shows the wrong material: check the active playlist or input selection in the playout or production tool, then confirm the intended YouTube broadcast is receiving that feed.
- A relay receives no video: verify the encoder’s RTMP destination and stream details against the relay’s current instructions, and confirm the encoder is sending a live feed.
