You can send a continuous encoder feed to IBM Video Streaming and YouTube, but you need to configure both destinations separately and verify that your encoder can output to both at once. IBM documents live streaming to multiple channels for 24 hours or longer; this is a capability statement, not an uptime guarantee. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived, so plan separately if you need a complete replay.
What you need before setting up the stream
- An active IBM Video Streaming account and an IBM channel to receive the broadcast.
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- An encoder that supports the output arrangement you intend to use. Confirm that your chosen encoder and version can send to IBM and YouTube simultaneously; the services’ separate ingest instructions do not establish that every encoder supports dual output.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the combined outputs, plus a local recording plan if you need an archive.
IBM’s documented approach is to send an encoder feed using an RTMP URL and Stream Key. YouTube has its own ingest URL and stream key. The reviewed documentation does not describe IBM directly relaying a stream to YouTube, so do not assume that connecting to IBM alone also sends the broadcast to YouTube.
Set up IBM and YouTube as separate destinations
1. Activate IBM Video Streaming and choose a channel
IBM’s Getting Started instructions describe selecting a subscription or requesting the trial, registering with an IBM ID, verifying your email, signing in to My IBM, and choosing Launch to open the service. In the IBM Video Streaming dashboard, create or select the channel for the broadcast. Signup steps and trial terms can change; check IBM’s current pricing page before registering. IBM’s Getting Started page lists a modified date of June 8, 2026.
2. Create or schedule the YouTube stream
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, use the Stream tab to create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the YouTube ingest URL and stream key. YouTube describes the key as the credential that lets the service accept the encoder feed and tells the encoder where to send it.
Allow time for activation if this is your first YouTube live stream: YouTube says the initial process can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Copy IBM’s encoder credentials
- In IBM Video Streaming, select the channel that will receive the feed.
- Open Broadcast Settings, then select View beside Encoder Settings.
- Copy the IBM RTMP URL and Stream Key into the encoder’s corresponding server or URL and stream-name or key fields.
IBM also supports RTMPS and documents manual RTMP configuration as a workaround for issues with legacy Ustream plugin or login methods. Keep the IBM key private: IBM warns that someone with both the RTMP URL and Stream Key may be able to broadcast to your channel. Do not show the values in screenshots or publish them in documents. If a key is exposed, replace or reset it in the service rather than continuing to use a compromised credential. See IBM’s third-party encoder guide and Broadcast Settings guidance.
4. Add both destinations in the encoder
Add IBM as one encoder destination using IBM’s URL and key, then add YouTube using its separate URL and key. Encoder interfaces differ, so the exact control names depend on the product and version. Before relying on the setup, confirm that the encoder can publish both outputs at once, whether it sends one shared profile or allows per-destination profiles, and whether its simultaneous outputs fit your available upload bandwidth. IBM’s and YouTube’s instructions establish their respective ingest workflows; they do not certify a particular encoder’s multi-output design.
Choose settings that both services can accept
IBM and YouTube publish different recommendations, so there is no single profile in the cited guidance that can be called optimal for every dual-destination setup. Treat the figures below as starting points to validate in your encoder and each platform’s stream-health feedback.

| Setting | IBM recommendation | YouTube recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Video format and resolution example | For most applications, one 720p source using H.264 Main | For H.264 at 720p/30, the settings guide lists a recommended bitrate; use YouTube’s current guide for the full profile |
| Video bitrate | 1,200–4,000 kbps for a 720p cloud-transcoding input | 8 Mbps for H.264 720p at 30 fps |
| Frame rate | 25 or 30 fps | The cited recommendation is specifically for 30 fps in the example above |
| Keyframe interval | 1 second | 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Rate control | Not stated in IBM’s cited recommendation | CBR |
| Audio | AAC-LC at 128 kbps | Not stated in the cited YouTube bitrate example |
These are service-published recommendations, not results from a dual-output encoder test. Review IBM’s network and encoding guidelines and YouTube’s live encoder settings, then test the selected profile against each destination’s status and stream health. A profile that reaches one service does not prove the other is receiving a healthy feed.

- Run a test to both destinations before scheduling a real broadcast. Check that each service receives audio and video and reports a healthy stream.
- Use YouTube Live Control Room’s preview before going live, then monitor stream health and audio/video during the test.
- Check that any local recording is being created and its file is growing. YouTube recommends checking local archive files and testing backup-encoder failover.
- Test the recovery path you expect to use, including what happens if a destination disconnects or the encoder stops. Do not treat IBM’s support for broadcasts lasting 24 hours or longer as a guarantee against interruption.
- Keep the encoder, destination credentials, network connection, and recording workflow under observation until you have verified the exact setup you will use.
YouTube’s monitoring and testing guidance is at YouTube Help. IBM’s product page says its platform supports simultaneous live streams to multiple channels for 24 hours or longer, with APIs available for integration; that describes platform capability, not measured uptime or uninterrupted operation. See IBM’s product page.
Decide how you will handle recordings and long sessions
A continuous 24/7 broadcast is not the same thing as a guaranteed complete YouTube replay. YouTube says a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube also warns that DVR pause and rewind can be limited or unavailable on very long streams. Check YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance and DVR guidance before choosing a session length.

If a complete archive matters, use a local recording workflow and verify the recording is actually being saved. IBM’s Broadcast Settings guidance describes an auto-recording option for broadcasts to a channel, but confirm its behavior and retention in your account before depending on it. You can also consider shorter YouTube sessions if that fits your programming and archive needs; test the restart and scheduling process rather than assuming a continuous broadcast will be split into complete replays automatically.

Whichever encoder you use, compare simultaneous output support, per-destination profile controls, stream-health feedback, local recording, failover behavior, required upload capacity, and the total cost of the encoder and IBM plan. A wired connection can be useful to reduce dependence on Wi-Fi, but neither IBM nor YouTube recommends a particular networking product or guarantees 24/7 operation from one.

IBM receives the stream, but YouTube does not
Check that YouTube was added as its own encoder destination and that its current ingest URL and stream key are in the correct fields. Confirm that your encoder and version support concurrent outputs; an IBM connection alone is not evidence of an IBM-to-YouTube relay.
YouTube receives video, but reports poor stream health
Review the selected resolution, bitrate, frame rate, keyframe interval, and rate control against YouTube’s current encoder guidance. The cited YouTube guide recommends CBR, 2-second keyframes (not over 4 seconds), and 8 Mbps for H.264 720p/30. Recheck bandwidth and use Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators.

One destination is stable while the other drops
Inspect each platform separately in its status or stream-health view. Verify that your encoder’s output configuration and network capacity support both destinations at once, then test again with the intended profiles. The published IBM and YouTube settings differ, so a healthy result at one destination does not settle the other’s requirements.
The YouTube replay is missing or incomplete
Check the session duration first. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR functions may be limited on very long streams. If the archive is important, verify a local or IBM recording before the broadcast and confirm the saved file afterward.
The stream stops when the encoder or home connection stops
An encoder-based setup depends on the encoder and its network path remaining available. Check power, network stability, encoder logs, and any tested backup or failover arrangement. IBM’s 24-hours-or-longer statement is not a promise of uninterrupted uptime.
A stream key may have been exposed
Replace or reset the affected key in the relevant service, update the encoder’s saved credentials, and verify the destination again. Treat both the URL and key as sensitive publishing details.
