What Vimeo offers for an always-on channel
Vimeo describes two different ways to keep a stream running, and the distinction determines whether the service fits a YouTube channel built around continuous programming.
Playlist-based scheduled streaming
For prerecorded programming, Vimeo describes creating a live event with simulive as its source, choosing a scheduled start time, and selecting destinations. Its product materials describe using a playlist for a 24/7 channel and simulcasting a scheduled stream to YouTube. Vimeo also describes chat, Q&A, polls, registration, and an on-demand replay after a simulive premiere. These are vendor-described capabilities; availability on a specific account or plan should be confirmed before purchase.
This is the relevant Vimeo workflow if your channel plays uploaded, prerecorded material around the clock. The schedule is managed through Vimeo rather than by keeping a hardware encoder continuously active.

Encoder-fed Extended streaming
Extended streaming is a separate workflow: an encoder sends a continuous RTMP signal, and the Vimeo event remains active while it receives that signal. Vimeo’s Help Center describes Extended streaming as an Enterprise add-on. It also says Extended streams cannot simulcast to other destinations, cannot be recorded, and do not provide DVR. That makes this mode a poor fit if your requirement is to send the same continuous stream from Vimeo to YouTube.
For ordinary encoder-fed events, Vimeo lists 12-hour stream limits on Advanced and Premium. Its documentation says Enterprise supports three 12-hour streams, with options to add streams and extend streaming to 24/7 as an add-on. Those limits concern the encoder-fed event workflow; they should not be assumed to describe the separate playlist-based scheduled-channel feature.

Can Vimeo simulcast to YouTube?
Vimeo documents two ways to set up YouTube as a destination for a standard simulcast:
- Connect the account: In the Vimeo event’s Destinations settings, connect your YouTube account and select it as a destination.
- Use custom RTMP: Get the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, then add YouTube as an RTMP destination in Vimeo.
The YouTube account must be verified for live streaming. For a scheduled YouTube stream configured through RTMP, Vimeo warns that you may need to select Go live manually in YouTube Live Control Room; do not assume the scheduled destination will always start publishing without that action.

Vimeo documents up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 additional custom RTMP destinations for standard simulcasting. Some destinations may require an action in their own portal. Vimeo also says browser-based streams cannot have simulcast settings reconfigured after going live. Turning a destination off mid-stream archives the event on that destination; turning it back on can create a new event there.
These standard simulcast instructions do not remove the Extended streaming restriction: Vimeo explicitly says Extended streams cannot simulcast to other destinations. Confirm which Vimeo workflow your event uses before relying on YouTube delivery.

Plans, limits, and pricing to check
Vimeo’s published plan information is not presented consistently across its pages, and the relevant features differ by workflow. The following limits are the ones its Help Center associates with encoder-fed events:

These are plan-page claims, not a guarantee that the particular 24/7 playlist feature is included.

Pricing information reviewed for Vimeo’s Advanced plan was inconsistent: its live-broadcast product page showed $76 per month for 10 seats and 7 TB storage, while a separate pricing-page result showed $75 per seat per month and different included-seat details. Treat neither figure as a canonical current rate. Verify checkout pricing, billing term, region, seat count, and the exact scheduled-channel entitlement directly with Vimeo.
Does Vimeo fit your channel?
Vimeo is worth considering when
- Your channel is built from prerecorded uploads and you want a playlist-based scheduled stream.
- You want the scheduled stream to have YouTube as a simulcast destination, and Vimeo confirms the feature is available on your account.
- You also value event features such as chat, Q&A, polls, registration, or an on-demand replay for applicable simulive events.
Look elsewhere or verify carefully when
- You plan to send an encoder-fed Extended stream through Vimeo to YouTube. Vimeo says that mode cannot simulcast.
- You need recording or DVR for an Extended stream; Vimeo says these are unavailable in that mode.
- Your schedule depends on a specific concurrent-stream allowance, duration, add-on, or price. Confirm those details for the exact workflow before buying.
Alternatives for keeping a YouTube channel live
