Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo run a 24/7 coffee shop music stream on YouTube, first secure written rights for the music and visuals you plan to use, then configure and test a YouTube encoder, choose a bitrate your internet connection can sustain, and make a separate plan for recording and archiving. A license alone does not prevent YouTube’s Content ID system from interrupting a live stream, and YouTube warns that broadcasts longer than 12 hours may not be archived.
Clear music rights before you build the stream
You are responsible for having the rights needed to broadcast your content on YouTube in the territories where it will be available. That can involve rights from artists, record labels, music publishers, and public-performance license holders. YouTube’s terms also apply to archived content, so permission for a live broadcast should not automatically be treated as permission for a replay.
Before using a track, get written confirmation from the relevant rights holder or licensor that your planned use is covered. Ask specifically about:
- Livestreaming on YouTube, rather than personal listening or in-store playback.
- The territories where the stream will be available.
- Repeated or continuous looping.
- Monetization, if you plan to enable it.
- Archives, replays, and any local recording you intend to publish or retain.
- The process for having your YouTube channel allowlisted in Content ID.
The applicable license depends on your location, intended audience, and music catalog. Do not assume a consumer music subscription gives you permission to rebroadcast its songs: YouTube’s terms restrict using content from its service outside authorized uses, and cite publicly screening videos or streaming music from YouTube as examples of non-personal use.

Understand why Content ID can still interrupt licensed music
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party material. Its guidance says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If a match remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream.
This can happen even when you have a license. YouTube advises creators using licensed material to ask the rights owner to add their channel to the relevant Content ID allowlist. Confirm that this has been done before your public launch; having a license and having the channel allowlisted are separate parts of your preparation. A replay may also receive a Content ID claim after the live broadcast ends.
Choose a continuous-stream workflow
A 24/7 broadcast needs a source that can keep sending audio and video, an encoder or cloud service, and a reliable connection to YouTube. For a simple coffee-shop scene, the choice is mainly between operating an encoder yourself and using a cloud service to play uploaded videos. YouTube supports software encoders and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events; a static visual does not by itself mean you need dedicated hardware.

Software encoder
A software encoder gives you control over your scene and stream settings on a computer. You must keep that computer, encoder, and internet connection running, and plan for power, network, and software interruptions. This can suit a creator who wants to manage the broadcast locally and is prepared to monitor and maintain the setup.

Hardware encoder
A hardware encoder may suit a higher-production workflow where dedicated encoding equipment is part of the production plan. It adds equipment and setup considerations. For a static, low-production music scene, weigh the reliability and controls you actually need before buying one; YouTube also supports software encoding.
One long broadcast or shorter segments
A single continuous feed avoids scheduled handoffs, but it is not a dependable way to create one complete YouTube archive. Shorter broadcasts make archive planning more manageable, but require a transition plan if you want the channel to remain live around the clock. In either case, keep a local recording if a complete copy matters and make sure your license covers it.

Prepare YouTube Studio and the encoder
- Enable live streaming in advance. If this is your first time going live, verify your account and enable live streaming at least 24 hours before the planned broadcast, as YouTube for Artists advises.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Use the stream key and ingest settings supplied by YouTube for the event. Treat the stream key like a password: do not include it in a public page, recording, screenshot, or message that does not need it.
- Use RTMPS and the appropriate encoder settings. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS and provides settings by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Match the settings in your encoder to those supplied for the stream; do not assume one bitrate or frame rate is right for every format.
- Set up the complete scene. Add the visual loop, overlays, and audio source you intend to use. Check that the image and music can continue without manual interaction and that transitions do not expose unintended material.
- Test privately or unlisted. YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted test. Check the encoder output and YouTube’s stream preview, including audio, picture, overlays, and transitions. Test with movement and audio similar to the planned broadcast, rather than judging a static preview alone.
- Monitor stream health once live. Watch YouTube’s stream health and check audio and video quality. For a higher-reliability production, test backup-encoder failover in advance and verify that any local recording file continues to grow.
Set video quality to fit the connection
Choose a resolution and frame rate your internet connection can sustain continuously, not just during a brief speed test. YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include these video-bitrate values:
| Output | Minimum video bitrate | Recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are encoder video-bitrate settings, not a promise that a household internet plan with the same upload speed will be sufficient. Your outbound connection also carries audio, protocol overhead, and any other household or business traffic. YouTube’s network advice is to have upload bandwidth above the stream’s needs and to leave 20% headroom. Test the connection under realistic conditions, leave that headroom, and account for any backup feed before settling on a quality setting.
If a higher setting produces unstable delivery, step down to a quality the connection can sustain. A consistent stream is more useful than a sharper picture that repeatedly buffers or disconnects. Check YouTube’s encoder guidance for the full settings applicable to your selected codec, resolution, and frame rate.

Plan the archive separately from the 24/7 live feed
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not treat a continuous day-long broadcast as a guaranteed complete replay. If the archive matters, record locally and consider shorter live segments, with a tested handoff plan to keep the channel available between them.
A local recording does not remove music-rights obligations. Confirm that your permission covers the recording and any later replay, storage, or distribution you intend.

YouTube interrupts or terminates the stream
- Possible cause: Content ID has matched music or other third-party material, even if you have permission.
- What to do: Check the live-stream notice and contact the rights owner or licensor about the match and the channel’s Content ID allowlist status. Confirm the license covers the actual YouTube use and territories before restarting.
The picture or audio buffers, drops, or looks unstable
- Possible cause: The sustained upload capacity is too close to the encoder’s output, or other traffic is using the connection.
- What to do: Check YouTube’s stream health, test upload capacity during representative conditions, preserve the recommended 20% network headroom, and lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if needed.
The live feed works, but the archive is incomplete or missing
- Possible cause: YouTube’s stated archive guidance does not guarantee capture for broadcasts longer than 12 hours.
- What to do: Keep a local recording if a full replay is important, and use shorter segments if you need YouTube archives as part of the publishing plan.
The stream will not start on the planned day
- Possible cause: First-time live streaming was not enabled early enough, or the encoder is using an incorrect stream key or ingest configuration.
- What to do: Enable live streaming at least 24 hours ahead when using it for the first time. Before launch, check the current stream key and ingest settings in YouTube Studio and run an unlisted test.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you have cleared the music for YouTube, StreamNeo is an alternative for keeping an uploaded-video stream running without leaving a computer at home on. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud. It streams to YouTube only, and it does not clear music rights or prevent Content ID claims, so you still need the permissions and allowlisting described above.
