Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose Gyre if you want a managed service to host uploaded videos and loop them as a YouTube live stream; choose a VPS if you want direct control and are prepared to configure and monitor a server running OBS. Neither is established as universally cheaper: Gyre publishes plan prices, but the available evidence does not establish a current, like-for-like VPS cost for this workload. If you are comparing ways to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running, StreamNeo is another cloud option: it runs uploaded videos continuously, at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with a free first day.
How the two approaches work
Gyre: managed hosting and looping
With Gyre, you upload video files to Gyre storage, arrange them in a playlist, connect a YouTube stream, and start the broadcast. Gyre says its infrastructure keeps the stream running without your computer and restarts the playlist when it finishes. See Gyre’s product page for its workflow and service claims.
An existing YouTube upload does not skip the file-ingest step: Gyre Help says videos must also be uploaded as files to Gyre storage. Its preparation guidance lists 1920×1080 or 1280×720, H.264, video at 3072–6144 kbps, audio at 128 kbps, and 30 fps. The page was last updated about a year before the research date, so treat those as guidance to verify against current instructions, not universal YouTube requirements. See Gyre’s video-preparation help page.
VPS: your own OBS encoder
A VPS is a rented server that you configure and operate. In the cited Vultr example, the workflow is to provision Ubuntu, install OBS Studio and FFmpeg, connect through remote desktop, configure the YouTube stream key, choose output settings, test the stream, and monitor resource use. YouTube’s encoder workflow is to enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key into the encoder; keep that key private and out of screenshots or public walkthroughs. See YouTube Help’s encoder instructions and Vultr’s OBS and Ubuntu guide.

Gyre vs VPS: practical comparison
| Decision | Gyre | VPS with OBS |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs the infrastructure? | Gyre says its cloud runs the stream without your computer. You work within the service’s limits. (Gyre) | You provision and monitor the server and encoder. (Vultr’s example) |
| Setup work | Upload files, create a playlist, connect the YouTube destination, and start the stream. (Gyre) | Provision Ubuntu, install OBS/FFmpeg, arrange remote access, configure the stream key and video settings, test, and monitor. (Vultr’s example) |
| Getting source files onto the system | Upload files to Gyre, including videos previously published on YouTube. (Gyre Help) | Make the source files available to the server and OBS workflow. The cited guide does not compare file-transfer methods. (Vultr’s example) |
| Capacity | Gyre publishes plan-specific stream, resolution, and storage limits; check its live page for current terms. (Gyre pricing) | Depends on server resources, workload, and provider plan. Vultr’s example is not a universal specification. (Vultr’s example) |
| Cost evidence | The listed monthly prices at research time were Start $49, Start+ $99, and PRO+ $169; recheck the live pricing page because prices and plan limits can change. (Gyre pricing) | A current VPS price, bandwidth overage, storage cost, and the value of your maintenance time are not established here. No cost winner can be named. |
| Control and upkeep | Managed workflow with service-defined limits. (Gyre) | More direct control over server configuration, alongside responsibility for setup and performance monitoring. (Vultr’s example) |
What Gyre plans include—and what to verify
At research time, Gyre’s pricing page listed a seven-day trial with one Full HD stream and 20 GB storage. Paid monthly listings were Start at $49 with one Full HD stream and 35 GB storage; Start+ at $99 with four HD streams or one 4K stream and 75 GB storage; and PRO+ at $169 with eight HD streams or two 4K streams and 150 GB storage. These are time-sensitive vendor listings, not guaranteed current terms. Check Gyre’s live pricing page for the plan currently offered and its precise stream, resolution, storage, and trial limits.
Gyre also makes channel-growth and watch-time claims. The reviewed product material does not establish those claims as independent findings or provide enough study detail to predict results for an individual channel. Treat them as vendor marketing, not an expected outcome.

What it takes to operate an OBS VPS
Vultr’s 2025 guide gives example prerequisites of 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage, and 3 TB bandwidth for its Ubuntu/OBS setup. Those are the guide’s example requirements, not a universal YouTube requirement or an independently validated sizing recommendation. Your actual needs depend on the video output, workload, and server configuration.
The guide notes that higher resolution and frame rate demand more processing power. In its example workflow, it advises keeping OBS CPU use below 90% to avoid dropped frames and buffering. For a continuous broadcast, server provisioning is only the start: you also need a way to access the desktop, check the encoder and stream, spot resource pressure, and adjust settings or capacity if performance suffers.

How to choose
- Pick a managed route if reducing server administration matters most. Gyre’s documented workflow is file upload, playlist setup, destination connection, and launch; the service says its cloud runs the stream without your computer.
- Pick a VPS if you need more direct control and can maintain it. You take on Ubuntu, OBS/FFmpeg, remote access, stream configuration, and performance monitoring.
- Compare the actual workload before comparing prices. List the number of concurrent streams, required resolution and frame rate, storage needed for source files, bandwidth, and the time you can spend maintaining the setup. Gyre publishes plan limits; the available evidence does not establish a comparable current VPS bill or labor cost.
- Plan for the file workflow. With Gyre, even a video already on YouTube needs to be uploaded to Gyre storage as a file. With a VPS, ensure the source media is accessible to your OBS setup.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a simpler YouTube-only option, StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos running as a 24/7 live stream from the cloud:
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Every quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free day.

Common problems and what to check
The stream will not connect to YouTube
Confirm that the encoder has the correct YouTube Live server URL and stream key. YouTube’s instructions require both; keep the key private. If the connection still fails, recheck the destination settings in YouTube and the encoder before restarting the broadcast.
OBS reports dropped frames or buffering on a VPS
Check OBS CPU use and server resources while streaming. Vultr’s example guide warns that higher resolution and frame rate increase processing demand and advises keeping CPU below 90% in its workflow. If resources are strained, lower output demands or review whether the server capacity suits the workload.
