Best Low-Power PC for a 24/7 YouTube Stream: What to Buy and Test

An Intel N100 mini PC is a candidate for a modest 24/7 YouTube stream, but its specs do not prove sustained performance. Here is how to choose and test one.

For a modest, single-stream YouTube setup, an Intel N100 mini PC is a reasonable low-power class to investigate—not a proven 24/7 winner. The Beelink Mini S12 Pro is one example with Intel UHD graphics and automatic power-on options, but its manual does not establish sustained OBS performance or wall-power use. Choose your stream target first, confirm OBS can use a supported hardware encoder, then test the complete setup under realistic conditions.

Start with what the stream has to do

A low-power PC that can encode a simple prerecorded loop may struggle with high-motion 1080p60 video, several live sources, filters, overlays, or simultaneous local recording. Decide on the content and production workload before choosing hardware.

  • Prerecorded loop or static scene: often a lighter workload, though the actual video, audio, resolution, and frame rate still matter.
  • Live camera, gameplay, or screen production: account for capture devices where needed, scene composition, filters, and audio processing.
  • Local recording as well as streaming: test both tasks at once; an encoder that handles streaming alone may not have enough headroom for the combined workload.

YouTube describes encoders as tools for streaming gameplay and overlays and using hardware such as preamps, microphones, and cameras (YouTube Help).

What to look for in a low-power streaming PC

Hardware encoding that OBS can actually use

Hardware encoding can move encoding work from the CPU to a specialized component in the graphics hardware. OBS documents Intel Quick Sync Video (QSV) support on Windows and Linux, but availability depends on the graphics hardware, drivers, operating system, and the encoder options shown in your particular OBS installation. Check those before buying; the presence of an Intel processor name alone does not guarantee that your intended setup will expose a working QSV option.

OBS generally recommends hardware encoders for performance because they shift work away from the CPU (OBS hardware-encoding documentation). That does not guarantee a particular mini PC can handle your scene, output settings, or other simultaneous work.

Cooling, recovery, and network connection

A machine running continuously needs ventilation and stable power. Check the exact model’s operating-temperature specification and whether it can restart automatically after a power interruption. Use wired networking where practical, and evaluate the internet connection separately from the PC: an encoder cannot compensate for insufficient upload capacity or interruptions.

Is the Beelink Mini S12 Pro a good candidate?

The Mini S12 Pro is a concrete N100 example, not a verified recommendation for uninterrupted streaming. A manual mirror lists an N100 processor, Intel UHD graphics, one SO-DIMM slot, automatic power-on options, and a working-temperature range of 0–40°C. Verify those details against the exact manufacturer SKU and configuration you are considering.

The specifications make the machine plausible for investigation as a modest encoder PC, especially if OBS offers working QSV encoding on your OS. They do not show that it has passed a long OBS stream test, establish its sustained performance with your scene, or state measured system wattage. Do not infer wall-power draw from processor specifications or assume the unit is suitable for a demanding 24/7 workload.

Set the YouTube output target before testing

YouTube’s current encoder guide lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; frame rates up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, with a four-second maximum. Its bitrate recommendations include:

Output target H.264 AV1 or H.265/HEVC
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 6 Mbps 12 Mbps

These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not evidence that a given PC can encode the target reliably. Use the codec and settings supported by your actual encoder setup, and confirm the stream’s health in YouTube Studio. See YouTube’s encoder settings for its full, changeable recommendations.

Test the whole setup before relying on it

  1. Configure the real production. Use the intended OBS scenes, sources, audio, filters, output resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval. Include local recording if you expect to record and stream together.
  2. Run an extended test with representative content. Include the kind of motion and audio the real stream will have. A static test image is not a meaningful stand-in for fast-moving footage.
  3. Watch both encoder and platform health. Check OBS for dropped frames and encoding problems, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the test.
  4. Check thermals and airflow. Make sure the computer remains within the manufacturer’s stated operating conditions and is not obstructed or placed where heat can build up.
  5. Test recovery behavior. Confirm what happens after a power interruption, a PC restart, an internet interruption, or a dropped YouTube connection. Automatic power-on does not by itself prove that OBS and the stream will resume correctly.
  6. Measure actual wall power. Use a plug-in power meter with the complete system running its representative workload. A processor power rating is not a substitute for measuring the PC, peripherals, and workload together.

Check whether your upload connection has headroom

YouTube recommends keeping upload bandwidth 20% above the stream bitrate. Other people and devices sharing the connection can reduce what is available to the encoder, and network disruptions can break a stream. Test upload performance under realistic household or workplace load, not only when the connection is otherwise idle. YouTube’s streaming tips cover bandwidth and stream reliability.

Local PC or cloud loop?

A PC running OBS is the relevant approach when the stream depends on a live camera, gameplay, screen capture, or an interactive production. For a stream made from prerecorded videos, YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming. That listing does not establish suitability for live-camera or interactive productions; check current service availability and terms before relying on it.

StreamNeo is another option specifically for uploaded-video loops to YouTube: StreamNeo. Its service runs the loop in the cloud rather than on your PC; it does not go live from a camera or replace a live OBS production. One slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists and looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and team support. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers. The first day is free with no card, once per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month; UPI and cards are supported in India, and card checkout is available worldwide. You can cancel any time.

Or let it run in the cloud

  1. Upload your prerecorded video.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.

Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream can use any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream; and the first day is free with no card. Start your StreamNeo free day.

Cost and the decision

Compare the PC’s purchase cost and measured electricity use with current cloud-service fees for your own region and intended duration. No model-specific power measurement or comparable cost figures are established here, so an annual energy cost or savings claim would be speculative.

  • Investigate an N100 mini PC if you want a local, modest-resolution encoder and can verify working hardware encoding, cooling, and recovery for the exact SKU.
  • Consider stronger hardware if you need high-motion output, multiple sources, filters, local recording, or higher output targets; use a representative workload test rather than relying on a processor tier label.
  • Consider a cloud loop if your content is prerecorded and you want it to continue without maintaining a home PC and internet connection for the stream.
