Short answer: Google Drive does not itself broadcast stored videos to YouTube. You need a cloud host or file-playout service that can retrieve the authorized video, play or encode it as a live feed, and send it to a YouTube Live event over RTMP(S). Which services and setups can do it?
There are three distinct jobs: getting the video out of Drive, turning it into a continuous live feed, and delivering that feed to YouTube. A service is a fit only if its documented features cover the steps you need—or if you are prepared to build the missing integration.

For a literal 24/7 requirement, “cloud-hosted” is not by itself proof of uninterrupted operation. Check how a system handles a stopped encoder, lost source access, YouTube disconnects, scheduled events, and service-specific session limits.
How the Drive-to-YouTube workflow fits together
- Make the source available to the playout system. For an unattended custom integration, use authorized Drive access. Google documents downloading a binary file with the Drive API’s
files.getmethod andalt=media; the documentedwebContentLinkroute depends on the requesting user having download access. Check the file’scapabilities.canDownloadvalue and any applicable restrictions. An ordinary Drive viewing or sharing URL is not a guaranteed unattended media input. See Google’s Drive download and export guide. - Play or encode the video as a live feed. A VM-based setup needs an encoder or playout process that can keep producing the feed. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API documentation describes an encoder program such as ffmpeg as an input source; it does not document a direct Drive-file playout feature. With StreamNeo, upload the recording or build a playlist in the service instead of maintaining an encoder yourself.
- Send the feed to the correct YouTube event. Create or schedule a YouTube Live event and configure the encoder with the ingestion address and stream name supplied for that stream. YouTube supports third-party encoder streaming and documents RTMP and RTMPS among its ingestion protocols. Keep the stream key private and use the credentials for the specific broadcast. - Plan for long-running operation. A 24/7 stream needs monitoring and a way to resume after a process, host, source-access, or YouTube interruption. Test the restart path and confirm whether the service requires a new event or encoder session; do not assume a single session can run indefinitely.
What the Google Cloud Live Stream API does—and does not do
The Google Cloud Live Stream API overview describes a managed service that accepts live RTMP or SRT input, transcodes it, and saves HLS or DASH output to Cloud Storage. It also describes features such as backup input and live-to-VOD. Those capabilities do not establish an automated path that fetches a file from Drive, plays it continuously, and sends it to YouTube ingest.

There is also a specific continuity constraint: Google’s Quotas and limits page says a live stream session lasts 24 hours after a channel starts and that a channel may be restarted after 24 hours in a streaming state other than stopped or stopping. Treat this as a restart requirement to design around, not as evidence that a 24/7 broadcast will restart seamlessly.
Eligibility, permissions, and rights to check
- YouTube eligibility: YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days to stream. Encoder streaming is one of its supported go-live methods. Check the current YouTube live-streaming requirements for your channel.
- Drive access: The account or application retrieving the file needs authorization for content access. Permissions can change, and owners or shared-drive organizers can restrict downloading; unattended jobs must account for both credentials and file restrictions. Details are in Google’s download guide.
- Broadcast rights and platform rules: You need permission to access the Drive file and the rights required to rebroadcast its contents. YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service still apply whether the encoder runs on a VM or the video is played by a cloud service.
Choosing the right approach

- Evaluate another playlist service only after confirming Drive or cloud-storage source support, file looping, YouTube RTMP output, automatic recovery, and rights-handling responsibilities.
