Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you are watching a 24/7 YouTube stream on a slow or limited connection, start at 360p. If playback still buffers—or saving data matters more than detail—try 240p. Keep the highest setting that plays smoothly on your device and connection. If you are broadcasting the stream, these playback settings do not apply: you need enough steady upload bandwidth for your encoder’s resolution, frame rate and bitrate.
First, are you watching or broadcasting?
The word “streaming” can mean two different things. A viewer receives a YouTube playback rendition and can usually lower its quality in the player. A broadcaster sends an encoded video feed to YouTube; the resolution and bitrate they choose must fit their sustained upload connection.
YouTube suggests lower playback quality such as 240p or 360p for slow connections, but it does not name one setting as best for everyone. Its 16:9 dimensions are 640Ă—360 for 360p and 426Ă—240 for 240p. YouTube Help: Change video quality; YouTube Help: Resolution and aspect ratios.
Best playback resolution on limited internet
Start at 360p
Try 360p first as a practical balance: it is one of YouTube’s suggested lower-quality options for slow connections, and it retains more detail than 240p. This is a starting recommendation, not a guarantee that 360p will play without buffering on every Indian mobile or broadband connection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Drop to 240p if needed
If the video keeps pausing, the signal fluctuates, or conserving a limited data allowance is the priority, select 240p. The picture will be less detailed, particularly on a large screen, but a lower playback quality may be more workable on a slow connection. Choose manually if Auto keeps selecting a quality that buffers.
Keep the highest setting that stays smooth
Test on the device and at the location where you normally watch. A small phone screen may make the lower resolution acceptable, while subtitles, text, or fine documentary footage may be harder to see. Connection congestion and signal strength can change, so there is no single resolution that will remain best in every place or at every hour.

Which resolution uses less data?
Lower playback resolution generally means less video information is delivered, so 240p is the sensible option to try when data conservation is more important than image detail. However, the official YouTube playback guidance does not publish a fixed viewer data rate for 240p or 360p. Actual use varies, so there is no reliable universal per-hour or monthly figure to apply to a 24/7 viewer.
YouTube’s filming tips say a mobile live stream uses “about 10 MB of data per minute.” That is a rough general filming tip, not a measurement for watching at 240p or 360p, and it should not be multiplied into a monthly viewer estimate. YouTube Help: Filming tips – Live.

If you are broadcasting a 24/7 stream
Do not choose an encoder bitrate by looking at the viewer’s 240p or 360p playback menu. The broadcaster’s upload feed is a separate setting. YouTube’s recommendations depend on codec and frame rate as well as resolution, and a bitrate recommendation is an ingest setting—not a promise that a connection with the same advertised speed will sustain a 24/7 broadcast.
For H.264 at 360p30
YouTube’s live encoder settings table lists a 0.4 Mbps minimum and 4 Mbps recommended bitrate for H.264 at 360p30. These figures refer to the encoder’s video bitrate. Check the current table for your specific codec, frame rate and resolution rather than carrying this figure over to a different setup. Check upload capacity and leave headroom
- Test upload speed where the stream will run. Download speed alone does not establish whether the connection can send the feed steadily. YouTube notes that outbound bandwidth may be lower than inbound.
- Leave capacity for variation and other users. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom; shared network use can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder.
- Prefer Ethernet for a computer broadcaster when practical. YouTube recommends a wired connection for live streaming from a computer. Ethernet may make the local connection more reliable, but it cannot raise the bandwidth supplied by your internet plan.
- Test with representative content. Include audio and motion similar to the planned stream, then monitor YouTube’s stream health. A static test image may not reveal how the actual content behaves.
- For mobile connections, test at the real location. Signal strength and local congestion matter; an advertised download speed does not guarantee adequate upload or uninterrupted service.

Troubleshooting playback and broadcast problems
The video buffers at 360p
- Watching: switch to 240p and check whether playback stabilizes. If it does, the connection may not be sustaining the higher playback rendition at that moment.
- Broadcasting: check upload speed, competing network use, and stream health. Reduce the encoder’s quality only after checking the bitrate guidance for the chosen resolution, frame rate and codec.
Advertised internet speed looks sufficient, but the broadcast drops
Confirm that you tested upload rather than download, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and account for other devices using the connection. On a mobile connection, retest at the stream’s actual location and time.
The stream works during a short test but not reliably over time
A short test cannot establish sustained 24/7 reliability. Test representative video and audio, watch stream health, and assess the connection under the same network conditions expected during the full run. If the computer or home connection must not be a single point of failure, use a cloud service that keeps the uploaded video running independently of your local computer.
