There is no fixed upload time: YouTube says a video upload can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. For a useful estimate, divide the file size by the sustained upload speed available on the network you will use, then allow extra time for YouTube to process the video. A 24/7 playback plan does not make the original file upload faster or slower.
First, identify which kind of 24/7 stream you mean
A prerecorded video that will play continuously must first be uploaded as a normal video file. Its transfer time depends mainly on the file size and the real upstream bandwidth available to the upload; processing happens afterward.
A continuous live feed sent from an encoder is different: the encoder sends data to YouTube Live continuously. In that case, stable upload capacity, bitrate, resolution, frame rate, and encoder settings matter. The live-stream bitrate figures below do not estimate the time needed to upload a prerecorded file.
What affects the upload time?
- File size and format: Larger files take longer to transfer. YouTube also identifies file type and format as factors because they affect file size. A higher-quality or higher-frame-rate file will often be larger.
- Actual upload speed: Use the upstream speed available to the upload, not the advertised download speed. The connection may not sustain its headline speed throughout a large transfer.
- Network congestion: Busy periods, ISP traffic, and connection instability can slow the transfer.
- YouTube processing: Uploading the file and preparing it for playback are separate stages. A low-quality version may appear first while higher resolutions are still processing.
YouTube’s “Video stuck during upload” help page gives the broad range of a few minutes to several hours; it is not a completion-time promise for a particular file or connection. YouTube Help: Video stuck during upload.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Estimate the transfer before you start
- Check the file size. Find the finished video’s size on the device or storage location from which you will upload it.
- Measure sustained upload speed on the actual network. A speed test on the same connection can help, but leave room for fluctuations and other network use.
- Estimate the transfer. Divide the file size by the upload rate after putting both in compatible units. The result is a best-case transfer estimate, not a guaranteed finish time.
- Add a processing allowance. YouTube’s upload flow and processing information distinguishes transfer from processing; higher playback qualities may take longer to become available. YouTube Help: Upload YouTube videos – Computer.
- Upload with a buffer. If the video needs to be available in a particular resolution at a set time, upload early and verify that resolution is ready before relying on it.
No typical upload-time statistic is published in the cited YouTube guidance. Treat calculations as planning estimates and avoid relying on a single exact finish time.
Uploading a long video for a continuous loop
Before starting a long prerecorded upload, check your account’s eligibility and YouTube’s current file limits. YouTube says verified accounts can upload videos longer than 15 minutes. The maximum is 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less; these are upload limits, not estimates of how long an upload takes. See YouTube Help: Upload videos longer than 15 minutes – Computer.

Do not confuse a long video’s processing time with its duration. YouTube gives an example of up to four hours for processing high-resolution versions of a 60-minute 4K/30 fps video, and says 4K/60 fps takes longer. That is a processing example, not the upload time or a typical-time statistic. YouTube Help: Low video quality after upload.
If the upload is slow or interrupted
- Check the upstream connection first. If upload speed varies, reduce other network activity and try at a less congested time.
- Try Ethernet if Wi-Fi is the bottleneck. A wired connection can help avoid local wireless instability, but it cannot increase the upload capacity supplied by your ISP.
- Resume an interrupted upload. YouTube says an interrupted upload can be resumed from where it stopped for up to 24 hours: return to the upload page and select the same file. See YouTube Help: Video stuck during upload.
- Wait for the needed quality to finish processing. A video can be uploaded and viewable at low quality while higher resolutions are still unavailable.
For a true encoder-based YouTube Live feed
If you are sending a live feed rather than uploading a prerecorded file, test the available upload bitrate and configure the encoder for the chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance lists 5–14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6–17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommended live-stream bitrates, not upload-speed estimates for a prerecorded video. YouTube also recommends testing upload bitrate and RTMPS for live ingestion; it transcodes live streams into outputs for viewers on different devices and network conditions. Consult YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and match the settings to your encoder and stable connection.
