You can run a continuous YouTube relaxation stream from a spare PC by creating an encoder stream in YouTube Live Control Room, entering YouTube’s stream URL and key in encoder software, and keeping the PC, internet connection and encoder running. Before you start, decide whether you need continuous availability, a complete replay, or both: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. You will also need a verified channel with no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, a stable upload connection, and rights to every sound and image you broadcast.
What “24/7” means on YouTube
A stream that stays live continuously and a replay that preserves the whole broadcast are different goals. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not assume that one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete replay. If preserving the programme matters, plan shorter broadcast sessions and check YouTube’s current archive controls, or make a separate local recording and confirm it is being saved correctly. A local recording needs sufficient disk space and adds work for the PC.
For a channel whose priority is uninterrupted availability, a single long-running stream may fit the goal, but it carries the archive limitation above. For a channel that needs a replay, shorter sessions or a verified local recording are safer planning choices; neither removes the need to monitor the live feed.
Check channel eligibility and prepare the stream
YouTube requires the channel to be verified and to have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, set its title and privacy, and keep the stream URL and key available for the encoder setup. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a preview before going live, so confirm that the picture and sound reach the preview and that the intended watch page is accessible.

- Verify eligibility: In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and confirm the channel can create a livestream. Complete channel verification if required.
- Create an encoder stream: In Live Control Room, choose the encoder streaming workflow, enter the stream details and set the desired privacy.
- Copy connection details: Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with viewers.
- Start a test: Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview and stream-health indications. Check the watch page and audio before making the stream public.
- Go live: Once the preview and health indicators are acceptable, start the broadcast in YouTube’s control room if the workflow requires it, and confirm the public watch page is live.
Labels and controls can change in YouTube Studio. Use the current Live Control Room prompts rather than relying on an old screenshot or copied setup guide.
Choose resolution, bitrate and encoder settings
There is no single best resolution for an unspecified spare PC or internet connection. Choose a setting the machine can encode continuously and the connection can upload with headroom. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. Its settings guide lists recommended bitrates by resolution and frame rate; use the current row for your chosen output rather than treating a recommendation as a guarantee that your PC or connection can sustain it.

- Resolution and frame rate: Start conservatively if you do not know the PC’s encoding capacity. For slow-moving relaxation footage, a stable output is more useful than a higher resolution that causes overload or dropped frames.
- Bitrate: Set the encoder’s total stream bitrate below the upload capacity you can sustain during busy periods. Upload speed, not download speed, is the limiting direction. Leave headroom for other devices and changing network conditions.
- Keyframes and rate control: Set a two-second keyframe interval and CBR as YouTube recommends for encoder streaming.
- Protocol: Prefer RTMPS when the encoder offers it for YouTube.
- Audio: Test representative music or ambience at the level you intend to broadcast. Check that it is audible without clipping and that the encoder is not sending unwanted silence or noise.
Run an unlisted or private test with the actual scene, audio and settings. Watch YouTube’s stream-health feedback and the encoder’s own load and dropped-frame indicators. Test at a time when the home network is being used normally, not only under ideal conditions.
Keep the spare PC and connection running
A 24/7 stream depends on the whole chain: the PC, encoder, power, router, ISP connection and YouTube ingest. These practical measures reduce avoidable interruptions, but they do not guarantee continuous service.

- Set the operating system not to sleep or hibernate during the intended broadcast. Check separately that closing the lid, scheduled updates or power-saving settings will not stop the machine.
- If the chosen encoder supports it, configure it to launch after an unexpected reboot. Confirm that it can reconnect to the same YouTube stream and key, and test the recovery path before relying on it.
- Use a wired network connection where available, and monitor upload stability, encoder load and PC temperatures. A wired link is a sensible stability measure, not a YouTube requirement.
- Check ISP data caps and router reliability. The connection must remain available as well as fast enough for the selected bitrate.
- Consider a UPS sized for the combined PC and router load and the runtime you need. It can help with short power interruptions; it cannot keep an ISP service alive if the upstream network is down, and it is not a guarantee against a long outage.
Estimate electricity cost from your own setup
There is no defensible all-India monthly cost without the PC’s measured power draw, your state and utility, tariff category, and applicable bill charges. Electricity distribution and tariffs vary by state and utility. The Ministry of Power describes electricity as a concurrent subject and says supply and distribution are within the purview of the respective state government or distribution utility; the Central Electricity Authority publishes state tariff and duty material.
- Measure the PC’s actual power use while it is encoding the intended stream. A plug-in power meter can help capture the running load; include the router and any other equipment that must stay on.
- Use the measured average load and the hours operated to estimate energy consumption. For an always-on setup, calculate for the period you actually plan to run it.
- Apply the relevant energy rates and fixed or other charges from your current utility bill or tariff schedule. Do not substitute a national average for your own tariff.

Clear the rights to relaxation audio and visuals
Use material you created or have permission to livestream and, if relevant, archive. YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for having the necessary rights, including applicable music licensing rights. Credit or attribution alone does not establish permission. A recording that is publicly accessible online is not automatically cleared for your broadcast.
Check that each licence covers the uses you need: livestreaming, any replay, territories, duration and monetization where applicable. Rights permission and YouTube monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube applies its monetization policies to live streams; repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible under its inauthentic-content policy, and reused content is considered separately. A looped ambience track or visual does not automatically qualify for monetization.
