You can make a sleep-music livestream with OBS by preparing music and a visual, creating a broadcast in YouTube Studio, connecting OBS with your stream key, and testing the exact audio and video setup before going live. First confirm your channel can livestream and that you have the rights to use every track in a live broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, and even licensed music may need the rights owner to allowlist your channel.
Before you set up OBS: check channel eligibility
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says your channel must be verified and must not have livestream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also sets a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. Check eligibility before you plan a broadcast; if the channel is not ready, resolve verification or restrictions first. YouTube supports streaming with an encoder such as OBS. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance
The platform’s setup guidance does not specify a separate India-only OBS configuration. Use the same YouTube eligibility and encoder steps, and confirm that your music rights cover the territories where you intend to broadcast. This is not a determination of how Indian copyright law applies to a particular recording or license.
Choose music you can use in a livestream
Settle the music rights before building the stream. “Free,” “royalty-free,” or an attribution request alone does not establish permission for a YouTube livestream. YouTube describes safe music as public-domain music or music you have permission to use from the copyright owner. YouTube tips for finding safe music

Original or verified public-domain music
Music you created or recorded yourself avoids reliance on a third-party music license, but confirm that you control the relevant rights in the recording and composition. If you plan to use public-domain music, verify that status rather than relying on a label supplied by an uploader.
Third-party licensed music
Read the written license and check that it expressly covers YouTube livestreaming, your intended territories, and commercial use if you plan to monetize. Check attribution rules and how the rights owner handles Content ID. YouTube says a licensed track may still be interrupted if the owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID; ask the owner about allowlisting and keep the permission and confirmation. Build a simple sleep-music scene in OBS
A prepared music file paired with a still image or original animation is enough for a basic scene; YouTube does not prescribe a particular sleep-music visual format. Make sure the image or animation is also yours to use, especially if monetization is planned.

- Add the visual: In OBS, create a scene and add an image or other visual source. Use an asset you made or have permission to use.
- Add the music: Add the prepared audio file or other intended music source. Play it and confirm OBS’s audio meter responds.

Create the YouTube broadcast and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room: Create or schedule a broadcast. Use the current on-screen encoder or OBS connection options; YouTube may revise interface labels.
- Connect OBS: Use OBS’s YouTube integration or the encoder connection details shown for the broadcast to connect the software.
- Protect the stream key: Treat it like a password. Do not share it or display it in a screenshot or livestream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it using YouTube’s current controls before broadcasting again.
- Check the preview: Confirm YouTube receives the intended visual and audio before starting the public broadcast.

Choose stable encoder settings and test them
There is no one resolution or bitrate established as best for every computer or Indian internet connection. Choose settings your computer can encode and your actual upload route can sustain, then test before the planned stream. YouTube’s current encoder recommendations include H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, RTMPS, and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. Use the recommended two-second interval unless your encoder or current YouTube instructions require otherwise.
- Video codec: H.264.
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Audio codec: AAC or MP3.
- Keyframe interval: Two seconds recommended; no more than four seconds.
- Connection: RTMPS.
- Resolution, frame rate, and bitrate: Select a combination your system and upload connection can sustain; test it rather than assuming a fixed setting will work everywhere.
Run a representative test with audio and movement similar to the intended broadcast. A mostly still image and continuous music should still be tested with the actual OBS scene and output settings. Check the YouTube preview, stream-health messages, and OBS audio meter. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health during the event. Do not confuse settings for recording a local file in OBS with YouTube’s live encoder requirements.

Start the stream and monitor it
- Before going live, confirm the YouTube preview shows the intended scene and the audio is clean and at a suitable level.
- Start streaming from OBS and check that YouTube indicates the broadcast is receiving a signal and has no stream-health warning.
- Monitor YouTube Studio’s stream-health messages and OBS’s audio meter while the stream runs.
- If YouTube flags third-party content, stop or replace the matched music promptly and review the warning or restriction in Studio.
Copyright claims, interruptions, and monetization
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. A match can cause YouTube to replace the stream with a placeholder; if the matched content continues, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A copyright strike can also stop a stream. A track passing a test without a warning is not proof it is cleared for the full broadcast.
Do not treat a Content ID claim and a copyright strike as the same thing. Review the specific notice in YouTube Studio and act on it; rights holders may enforce their rights later, and a license does not itself guarantee uninterrupted streaming without any needed allowlisting.
Music clearance and channel monetization are separate questions. YouTube says royalty-free and Creative Commons music can be monetized only when the applicable license grants commercial rights, and permission for third-party material must cover commercial use. Separately, YouTube reviews livestreams under channel-level originality and inauthentic or repetitive-content policies. A long loop, a static image, or a cleared track does not by itself guarantee monetization; interchangeable or highly repetitive content may be ineligible. Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the OBS stream | The broadcast is not connected to the correct encoder details, the stream key is wrong, or the channel cannot currently livestream. | Confirm channel eligibility, the broadcast selected in Studio, and the current connection details. Keep the stream key private and replace it if exposed. |
| The stream health shows warnings or the video is unstable | The selected output may exceed what the computer or upload route can sustain. | Test at a lower sustainable resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and check the actual connection and YouTube health messages. Do not assume a setting is suitable without testing. |
| Music is missing or unusually loud | The intended source may be muted or routed incorrectly, or the music may be captured twice. | Play the source, watch OBS’s audio meter, and check the mixer for duplicate application and desktop-audio capture. |
| YouTube flags the music | A third-party match may have been detected; a license may not cover live use or the channel may not be allowlisted. | Stop or replace the matched track, review Studio’s notice, and contact the rights owner about live-use permission and Content ID allowlisting. |
| The stream runs but monetization is unavailable | Commercial permission may be missing, or the channel’s content may not meet originality and repetitive-content requirements. | Review rights for every audio and visual element and the current channel monetization policy; rights clearance alone does not establish monetization eligibility. |
