If your Dacast-to-YouTube broadcast keeps dropping, first find out which link is failing: watch the Dacast preview and YouTube Live Control Room at the same time. If Dacast drops too, investigate the encoder-to-Dacast connection. If Dacast stays live while YouTube goes offline, check the Simulcast destination, its URL and key, eligibility, and available credits. A particularly important Dacast-specific check is whether the encoder is still using the current ingest URL: Dacast says that URL changes when a Simulcast destination is configured.
How a Dacast-to-YouTube stream is connected
In this setup, your encoder sends the live feed to a Dacast encoder live channel. Dacast Simulcast then forwards that existing channel to YouTube using YouTube’s ingest URL and stream key. The encoder normally sends to Dacast, not directly to YouTube. Dacast’s Simulcast documentation describes the forwarding setup and its channel requirements.
That gives you two checkpoints: the Dacast preview and YouTube Live Control Room. Comparing them during the same test is the quickest way to narrow the fault to the incoming feed or the onward Simulcast connection. Dacast recommends checking its preview and the destination page together in its multi-destination setup guide.
Diagnose the disconnect in order
- Compare Dacast and YouTube while the problem is happening. If Dacast preview also stops, start with the encoder, its Dacast ingest URL, and the local network. If Dacast remains live but YouTube drops, focus on Simulcast, the destination credentials, and whether the channel can use the feature.
- Verify the current Dacast ingest URL. Open the affected channel’s current Encoder Setup and use the URL shown there, rather than a saved value. Dacast warns that the ingest destination URL changes when a multistream destination is set. Replace any old URL in the encoder and reconnect. Do not copy an ingest host from another channel or region: Dacast’s Create Stream reference says the returned host varies by region.
- Check the YouTube destination URL and key. Confirm they belong to the intended live event and are entered in the Dacast Simulcast destination correctly. If YouTube reports an encoder startup or authentication error, its troubleshooting guidance recommends getting a fresh stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder or destination. Refreshing a key is not a documented universal fix for a stream that starts successfully and disconnects later.
- Confirm Simulcast eligibility and credits. Dacast documents Simulcast for encoder live channels; HLS-ingest and VOD Rebroadcast channels are not eligible. The account also needs Simulcast credits. Dacast’s API documentation notes a 403 response when credits run out. After adding or removing a destination, allow a short interval and check again if the destination list appears stale or null.
- Measure upload bandwidth under realistic conditions. Check outbound upload capacity, not just download speed, while accounting for other people and devices using the connection. YouTube recommends that total outgoing bitrate stay within available upload bandwidth with 20% headroom. Its streaming tips also warn that shared office traffic can constrain one connection and that connectivity disruptions can break a live stream. If capacity is tight, reduce encoder bitrate or resolution, or reduce competing traffic.
- Check encoder output and source health. Review the encoder’s status, errors, CPU load, and local recording. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance distinguishes poor encoder output, which points toward the source or encoder, from healthy output that warrants investigating the outbound internet connection. Update the encoder software; try another encoder only when your local evidence suggests the current one is at fault.
- Look for YouTube policy notices. Check YouTube Studio for copyright or Community Guidelines notices. YouTube says streams can be temporarily interrupted or terminated when third-party content remains after a warning or a relevant strike applies. See YouTube’s copyright guidance.
- Ask whether the problem affects one viewer or several independent networks. YouTube says errors across viewers on different networks may point to encoder trouble; reports limited to users on a shared network can implicate that network. Compare reports from people watching on genuinely different connections before changing production settings.
Match encoder settings to YouTube’s guidance
Use YouTube’s current recommendations as a reference for the encoder feed, not as proof of a Dacast-specific fault. Choose settings your connection can sustain consistently; a lower stable quality is preferable to a higher setting that repeatedly exceeds upload capacity. YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS, CBR encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval, with an interval no longer than four seconds.

| H.264 output | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These bitrate figures are YouTube ingestion recommendations. Select the row that matches your actual resolution and frame rate, and leave the recommended upload headroom above your total outgoing bitrate. If upload capacity cannot support the chosen setting reliably, reduce bitrate or resolution rather than treating the recommendation as a minimum.
Prevent avoidable drops before an event
YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend setting up the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before airtime. Use that lead time to verify the whole path rather than checking only that the encoder says it is connected.

When the checks do not reveal the cause
There is no single cause established for every Dacast-to-YouTube disconnection. To narrow down a particular incident, collect the Dacast destination settings, the active ingest URL, YouTube stream-health warnings, encoder logs, timestamps for each drop, and upload measurements taken during the event. Those records help distinguish a stale configuration from encoder, network, destination, or policy problems. Dacast and YouTube’s guidance does not establish a published disconnection rate for this specific setup.

If the goal is a 24/7 YouTube channel playing uploaded recordings rather than a live camera or event feed, StreamNeo is a different option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the file as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly price is $9.99 per month.
