YouTube receives the encoder’s feed; its general setup instructions do not provide a control for looping a folder on your computer.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified, eligible to live stream, and has no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Encoder software that supports playback of your video files and can repeat a playlist or selection. The exact menus and supported file formats vary by encoder; check its current documentation.
- Your video files stored where the encoder can access them, plus a reliable internet connection capable of sending the stream.
An encoder converts video into a digital format for YouTube. The encoder, not YouTube Studio, is where you select the files and set their playback to repeat.
Set up the loop and connect it to YouTube
- Prepare the files. Put the videos you want to include in a known folder. Check that the encoder supports their formats and that each file plays with the expected picture and sound. If order matters, arrange them in the playlist in the sequence you want.
- Build a playlist in your encoder. Add the folder’s videos using the encoder’s media or playlist controls. Turn on repeat or loop for the playlist (or the individual file, if that is the encoder’s available option). Menu names and whether the software can monitor a folder for newly added files are encoder-specific; do not assume that selecting a folder automatically adds future files.
- Create or schedule a YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Choose the appropriate stream settings. YouTube’s stream settings guidance covers stream configuration and options such as reusing settings.
- Copy the stream URL and key into the encoder. Paste them into the encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP connection settings, following that encoder’s instructions. The stream key functions like a password and address for your stream. Keep it private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Start the playlist and have the encoder send its feed. In Live Control Room, confirm the preview shows the intended video and that audio is present. For a scheduled event, use the Go live control when the preview is ready and the event is meant to begin.
- Monitor playback. Check both the encoder and Live Control Room for picture, audio, and connection status. Confirm the playlist advances and returns to the beginning as intended.
Timing and stream settings that matter
YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours before a broadcast and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event, so there is time to resolve connection or preview problems. YouTube also recommends running a test live stream to learn the workflow. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and encoder setup instructions.
For resolution, bitrate, frame rate, keyframes, and encoding format, use settings supported by both your encoder and YouTube’s current recommendations for your chosen stream type. The correct values depend on the video format and connection; this folder-loop workflow does not make one universal setting suitable for every stream. Check the encoder documentation and YouTube’s stream settings before broadcasting rather than guessing or copying settings from a different format.

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube offers auto-start and auto-stop options in some stream configurations, but those controls do not establish that every encoder will restart a playlist after a disconnect. Check the encoder’s own documentation for whether it resumes playback, reconnects, and continues the loop after a failure.
Copyright, reused footage, and documentary material
Having a video file does not by itself establish that you have the rights to stream it. Before broadcasting, confirm that you have permission for the footage, music, narration, photographs, and any other copyrighted material in every file. A loop does not change the underlying rights or make material original.

If you intend to monetize the channel, review YouTube’s current monetization and reused-content policies separately from the technical setup. A stream can connect successfully and still raise rights or policy issues. Keep records of licenses and permissions, and do not treat an encoder’s ability to play a file as evidence that the content is cleared.
Long-running loops: archives and DVR
YouTube says it can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours. Do not rely on a complete automatic archive for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer; make a separate recording if you need a dependable copy. YouTube also notes that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for very long streams beyond 12 hours. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance and DVR guidance.

Troubleshooting common problems
- YouTube shows no preview. Confirm the encoder is actually sending, then verify the stream URL and key match the stream in Live Control Room. Check for a typo or an old key and make sure the stream is enabled and ready.
- The video plays once and stops. The encoder may be set to play a file rather than repeat a playlist. Check its repeat setting and whether repeat applies to the whole playlist or only the current item.
- A file is skipped or has no sound. Check whether the encoder supports that file’s container, codecs, and audio track. Try a supported export format and test that file in the encoder before restarting the broadcast.
- The preview has picture but no audio, or the audio is wrong. Inspect the file’s audio track and the encoder’s audio input/output selection and levels. Confirm the preview before going live.
- The stream disconnects and does not resume. Check the encoder’s reconnection and playlist-resume behavior; YouTube’s general setup controls do not guarantee that the encoder will recover playback. Restart the encoder if needed, then verify the new feed in Live Control Room.
- The stream looks unstable or drops frames. Check the encoder’s connection status and whether your available upload capacity is sufficient for the selected output settings. Reduce the output load if necessary and run another test before relying on the loop.
- The stream ends unexpectedly. Check whether the encoder stopped, its playlist ended without repeat, or a stream setting such as auto-stop affected the broadcast. Compare the encoder’s status with Live Control Room to isolate where it stopped.
Or let it run in the cloud
