To keep a music broadcast live on YouTube around the clock from a PC, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, send it from streaming software such as OBS, and keep the computer, encoder, power and internet connection running. First, distinguish that from listening to YouTube Music continuously: personal playback does not create a live channel broadcast, and a listening subscription is not permission to rebroadcast songs.
What you need for a continuous PC broadcast
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- A PC capable of encoding your chosen video and audio settings, with streaming software such as OBS.
- A stable wired internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream and headroom for fluctuations.
- Music and visuals you have the rights to livestream, and to retain in the archive if you keep one.
- Reliable power for the PC and router. A UPS is optional and should be sized for their actual load and the runtime you need.
YouTube’s live-stream help page lists a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key. These limits are platform limits, not a recommendation to run that many streams.
Set up YouTube Live and OBS

Check access in YouTube Studio
Verify the channel and confirm live streaming is available before preparing a long broadcast. YouTube’s “Get started with live streaming” help page describes eligibility and encoder streaming. If access is restricted, resolve that before configuring OBS.

Create an encoder stream
In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS; use the server URL provided in Studio rather than guessing one.

Protect the stream key
YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new key.

Choose encoder settings and test
Use the settings appropriate to your resolution, frame rate, content and available upload capacity. YouTube’s current encoder recommendations include CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), RTMPS and AAC or MP3 audio. For H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps, YouTube lists 5 Mbps video; its stereo AAC recommendation is 128 kbps. These are published recommendations for that profile, not universal settings for every stream.

YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the bitrate or combined bitrates being sent. This is capacity margin, not a guarantee against interruptions. Run a representative preflight test, then check stream health in the Live Control Room before relying on the setup for a long session.

Start the broadcast and keep the local system available
Start streaming from OBS and confirm that YouTube is receiving the feed. For a PC-based stream, the computer and encoder must remain on and connected, and the home internet connection must continue to provide upload service. Configure the PC not to sleep during the broadcast. OBS has an automatic reconnect option that can help after some connection interruptions, but it cannot recover from every PC, power, network or platform failure.

Make the stream suitable for continuous playback
Plan the video and audio loop
Prepare a file or playlist that can play for the duration you want. Check that transitions do not leave unintended silence or a blank picture, and monitor audio levels and playback before going live. If you change files or settings, test the new sequence before using it in a continuous broadcast.
Use rights-cleared music and visuals
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If copyrighted material remains in a live broadcast, YouTube may replace it with a placeholder, interrupt the stream or terminate it. Even if you have permission to use third-party music, the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel in Content ID for the stream to avoid interruption. Being able to listen to a track through a service, or having a subscription, is not a license to rebroadcast it.

Keep records of the permissions that cover livestreaming and, if applicable, leaving the replay available. A track cleared for personal listening or for a different use may not cover a public live broadcast.
Plan for power and connectivity failures
A UPS for the PC and router can provide a limited bridge through some local power interruptions. Select it based on the combined equipment load and the runtime you need; it will not resolve an ISP outage. A local-PC setup also depends on home upload connectivity, so test the actual connection at the time and location you intend to stream.

Troubleshoot common interruptions

If you meant personal listening in India
Keeping YouTube or YouTube Music playing for yourself is different from broadcasting a live stream to a channel. Google India announced on 12 March 2026 that background play and downloads for most videos were rolling out to Premium Lite users in India. Google said YouTube Premium remained the option for background playback that includes music content and YouTube Music Premium. The announcement describes a rollout, so availability may vary by account; it does not grant rights to rebroadcast music.
