Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To play podcast episodes in a set order during a scheduled YouTube livestream, build the sequence in an OBS Studio VLC Video source, turn off shuffle, and decide whether the playlist should loop. Then schedule the YouTube event separately, connect OBS with that event’s stream key, preview the feed, and click Go live in YouTube Studio.
Build the episode sequence in OBS
YouTube scheduling creates the event; it does not arrange local episode files. The order is controlled by the media playlist in your encoder. OBS’s VLC Video source supports media including MP4, MOV, MKV, MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. See the OBS VLC Video Source guide for supported formats and source settings.
- Prepare the files. Put every episode file where the computer running OBS can access it. Choose the sequence in advance and confirm each file plays. Use filenames or a written run order that makes the intended sequence easy to verify.
- Add the playlist source. In the OBS scene that will be used for the broadcast, add a VLC Video source and add the episode files in the desired order. If VLC Video is unavailable, install VLC. OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Preserve the order. Leave Shuffle Playlist off. With shuffle disabled, OBS plays the entries in their listed sequence.
- Choose what happens at the end. The documented VLC source setting has Loop Playlist enabled by default. Leave it on if the episodes should repeat from the beginning; turn it off if the broadcast should stop after the final episode.
Check the scene’s visual output and audio before scheduling the event. If the podcast is audio-only, decide what viewers should see while listening—for example, a static title card—rather than assuming the episode’s audio file will provide video.
Schedule the YouTube livestream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live → Manage → Schedule stream.
- Create a new scheduled event or reuse settings from an existing stream. Set the event details and schedule time, then save it.
- Share the event link if viewers need advance notice. A scheduled stream may appear as upcoming to subscribers, who can select Notify me.
Scheduling and sending the broadcast are separate: the event can be prepared ahead of time, but the encoder still has to connect and send the actual stream. YouTube’s instructions for this workflow are in its Create a live stream with an encoder guide.

Connect OBS, preview, and go live
- Open the scheduled event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and copy its stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the YouTube service if needed, and enter the event’s stream key and server information as prompted. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to the event.
- Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room, then inspect the preview for the correct scene, episode playback, and audible sound.
- When the preview is right and you are ready for viewers, select Go live in Live Control Room. Monitor the stream and playback as the episodes progress.
- To finish, end the event in YouTube Studio and stop sending from the encoder following YouTube’s encoder workflow.
YouTube recommends testing and previewing before the public event and monitoring audio and video quality. Its live streaming tips cover preparation and monitoring.
Copyright, episode rights, and the archive
Only stream episodes and accompanying material that you have the rights to use on YouTube. Permission to publish a podcast as an on-demand episode does not necessarily grant permission to rebroadcast it as a livestream, or to include music, clips, artwork, or other material supplied by someone else. Resolve rights before the scheduled start; playlist order does not change YouTube’s copyright rules.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video is missing from OBS | VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC, then reopen OBS. |
| Episodes play in an unexpected order | Shuffle is enabled, or the entries are listed differently from the intended run order. | Turn off Shuffle Playlist and review the playlist entries before going live. |
| The first episode plays again after the last | Loop Playlist is on. | Disable looping for a single pass, or leave it on if repeat playback is intended. |
| The scheduled event exists but has no incoming video | The encoder has not started sending, or OBS is using a different stream key or server setting. | Check the event’s stream URL and key in Live Control Room against OBS’s Settings → Stream, then start streaming and wait for the preview. |
| Viewers arrive but the wrong scene or silent audio appears | The intended scene or media source may not be active, or the source may not be playing audibly. | Verify the scene and episode in OBS, listen to the audio, and inspect the Live Control Room preview before selecting Go live. |
