What is the documentary NAZA about?
The official Venice International Film Festival synopsis describes NAZA as a film shot at night on Tel Aviv rooftops, examining systems behind Palestinian civilian deaths in Gaza. The film’s framing is the filmmakers’ own: Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor say they made it to examine those systems and place the project alongside earlier reporting by The Guardian, +972 Magazine and Local Call. The official festival catalogue lists Hebrew and English as the film’s languages. La Biennale di Venezia’s 2026 catalogue entry provides the film’s synopsis and credits.
Who made the film?
Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor directed NAZA; The Guardian and JW Films are listed as its producers. In their directors’ statement, reproduced by La Biennale di Venezia, they write: “We made this film out of a sense of obligation to use our position as Israelis to examine the systems behind the mass killing of Palestinian civilians for which our country is responsible.”
What is known about the film’s reporting and the IDF’s response?
In an October 1, 2026 report, The Guardian said the team behind NAZA reported speaking to more than 100 sources with knowledge of the military systems discussed in the film. That figure is the production team’s account, not an independently audited source count. The same report describes the IDF’s criticism of the film as distorted and misleading, alongside the producers’ response. These are attributed, opposing positions; the available information does not independently verify confidential-source testimony or resolve the dispute. Read The Guardian’s October 1 report.
