HGTV cancelled Rehab Addict and removed it from its platforms after video surfaced of host Nicole Curtis using a racial slur. The network said the comment was hurtful and did not reflect HGTV’s values. Curtis apologized, then later disputed how the footage was obtained and edited; those allegations are her account, not independently established facts.
Why did HGTV cancel Rehab Addict?
Video of Curtis using a racial slur surfaced on February 11, 2026, the day new episodes were scheduled to air, according to WXYZ / ClickOnDetroit. HGTV said it had recently learned of an offensive racial comment made during filming and removed the series from all HGTV platforms.
In a statement quoted by TVLine, the network said: “Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees — it does not align with the values of HGTV.” The Los Angeles Times also reported the cancellation and removal from the network’s platforms.
What did Nicole Curtis say?
Her apology
Curtis apologized after the video became public. Her initial statement, quoted by TVLine, said: “I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.”

In a later Instagram statement reproduced by WXYZ / ClickOnDetroit, she wrote that she made no excuse, knew the word was wrong and said it would never happen again.
Her account of the footage
Curtis later said the recording came from her personal equipment and claimed it had been stolen, manipulated, edited and sold to a tabloid. These are Curtis’s allegations; the reports do not independently verify them.

Her later explanation of the words
In a March 2026 interview with The Breakfast Club, Curtis said she meant to say “fart digger” or “fart knocker.” The Los Angeles Times reported that the hosts challenged her explanation.

Published accounts describe its season count differently. The Los Angeles Times calls it eight full seasons from 2010 to 2018 and says a ninth season was spread over two years. TVLine describes the series as having run for nine seasons. Those formulations should not be collapsed into one uncontested count.
