Spotify Wrapped 2023 launched on 29 November. In Australia, Taylor Swift was the most-streamed artist, Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” was the most-streamed song, and Vance Joy’s “Riptide” led songs by Australian artists. This retrospective explains the local and global rankings, what the personalised recap showed and what to know if you are trying to find your 2023 story in 2026.
What Spotify Wrapped 2023 was
Wrapped was Spotify’s annual personalised recap of a listener’s activity on the service. It presented listening data as a sequence of interactive, shareable cards, alongside playlists and other editorial features. The recap reflected activity on Spotify—not every song or podcast a person heard across other apps, services or offline collections.

Spotify said its 2023 campaign reflected how more than 574 million listeners worldwide used the platform. That was a global campaign figure, not a count of Australian Wrapped users. The rollout covered 170 markets and more than 35 languages, according to Spotify’s account of the 2023 campaign.
Australia’s Spotify Wrapped 2023 rankings
The available Australian reporting identifies the category leaders and the top five podcasts. It does not establish complete Australian rankings for artists, songs or albums, so the tables below show only the positions supported by the cited sources.

These labels describe separate comparisons: “Flowers” led the overall Australian song list, while “Riptide” led the local Australian-artist category. Neither is a personal result for every listener; an individual Wrapped showed that account’s own activity.
Podcasts
An Australian ranking summary published by Yahoo listed these five leading podcasts, in order:
- The Joe Rogan Experience
- Call Her Daddy
- Huberman Lab
- Casefile True Crime
- The Inspired Unemployed
The list is attributed to Yahoo’s Australian ranking summary. The prominence of locally produced Casefile True Crime and The Inspired Unemployed sits alongside international shows in the reported top five.
Albums
A complete Australian album ranking is not established by the cited Australian lists. Spotify’s global album leader was Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti; that global result should not be treated as Australia’s top album.

How Australia’s results compared with the global lists
Spotify’s global rankings provide context, but they measure worldwide Spotify activity rather than Australian listening alone. In its global 2023 rankings, Spotify reported:

Taylor Swift, “Flowers” and The Joe Rogan Experience led both the reported Australian and global categories in which they appear. The Australian “Riptide” result adds a distinct local-catalogue measure, not a claim that it topped all Australian songs.
What your personal Wrapped could show
The exact cards a listener saw could vary. Spotify’s 2023 experience drew on music and podcast habits and included listening time, top artists, songs, albums and genres, plus personalised playlists and shareable cards. Spotify described several features that shaped that year’s version in its Wrapped 2023 feature announcement.
Me in 2023
This feature assigned a listening character from 12 possible options. It was a playful classification based on Spotify habits, not a clinical assessment or validated psychological profile.

Sound Town
Sound Town matched a listener with a city based on similarities in listening and artist affinity. It was a taste-based comparison, not an indication that the listener lived in or had visited that city.
Top 5 Genres and artists’ peak months
The Top 5 Genres card displayed Spotify’s genre classifications in a sandwich-inspired design. Genre labels are platform classifications and may not match how a listener would describe an artist or track.
For each of a listener’s top five artists, Wrapped also showed the month when listening peaked. A concentrated burst of plays in one month could therefore help an artist rank highly even if the listener did not play that artist steadily throughout the year.
Artist messages and the Wrapped feed
Some listeners received video messages from participating artists. Spotify said thousands of artists contributed, including Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, SZA, Dolly Parton, NewJeans and Jung Kook; the announcement does not mean every user received every message.

Spotify also added a Wrapped feed to the mobile Home screen, combining the personalised story with editorial playlists, concert information, merchandise links and other Wrapped-related content.
When Wrapped launched and how people opened it
Spotify released Wrapped 2023 on 29 November 2023—not in December. At launch, Spotify said users could access the experience through the iOS and Android apps and, for the first time, through a browser at Spotify.com/Wrapped.
- Update the Spotify app on an iOS or Android device.
- Sign in to the account whose listening activity you want to see.
- Look for Wrapped or the Wrapped feed in Spotify.
- Alternatively, try Spotify.com/Wrapped in a browser and sign in.
Those were the original 2023 access routes, not a guarantee that the old story still works. The main Wrapped experience was presented as available to eligible Spotify listeners; Spotify’s launch announcement did not identify Premium as a universal requirement. Individual features, advertising, playback controls and account eligibility could vary.

Spotify’s 2023 announcement confirmed launch access but does not establish permanent access to that edition. In 2026, the original interactive story may have expired, been replaced by a later Wrapped edition or become unavailable through the usual app interface. Check Spotify’s current account and Wrapped pages, but do not assume the 2023 story will load.

If it does not appear, confirm that you are signed into the right account, update the mobile app, search within Spotify and try the browser route. If the old edition remains unavailable, that may reflect the age of the story rather than a problem with your account.
A Spotify account data download may offer historical listening information, but it should not be assumed to recreate the original Wrapped cards or their ranking calculations. Spotify’s 2023 announcement does not promise that those calculations can be reconstructed from an export.
Why your Wrapped might not match your memory
A surprising result does not by itself show that Spotify calculated it incorrectly. Wrapped summarised the activity and rules Spotify used for that edition, and those may not line up with a listener’s recollection of an entire year.
- The recap ended before the year did. A contemporary TIME guide reported that 2023 data ran from January to a point a few weeks before the November 29 launch. Spotify did not specify the exact cutoff in that report, so December listening—and potentially some late-November listening—may be absent. Do not treat Wrapped as a January-to-December archive.
- A play may not have qualified as a stream. TIME reported a 30-second threshold for a track or podcast episode to count as a stream in 2023. This is a reported rule for that edition, not a timeless guarantee or an explanation for every Wrapped metric.
- You may have used another account or a shared profile. Plays on a different account are separate from the account being summarised. If several people used one profile, their listening could be mixed together. Separate profiles are a better basis for future personal recaps.
- Offline listening may not have synced in time. Plays that had not synchronised before Spotify generated the recap may not be reflected as expected.
- Spotify’s categories may differ from yours. Genre classifications are assigned by Spotify, while listeners may use different labels for the same music.
- Another service is a different dataset. Apple Music Replay, YouTube Music Recap and Spotify Wrapped draw on activity within different platforms and may use different periods and counting methods. Local files and listening outside Spotify are not part of a Spotify recap.
- A peak can outweigh a vague impression of consistency. A short period of intensive listening can lift an artist’s position even if you remember listening casually across more months.
Private Session or other excluded-listening behaviour may affect what appears, but the cited 2023 material does not establish the exact rule for every metric. Likewise, without account-level evidence, no single cause can be assigned to a missing song or unexpected ranking.

If your listening mainly happened outside Spotify, use the recap service for that platform instead. Neither alternative can reconstruct plays that occurred on Spotify.
- Apple Music is the relevant place to look for Apple Music Replay activity.
- YouTube Music provides Recap based on YouTube Music and associated account activity.
Third-party listening analytics may offer charts or timelines beyond a year-end recap, but no particular provider is endorsed here. Before connecting one, prefer Spotify’s official authorisation flow, never enter your Spotify password into an unknown service, and check whether it uploads your data and how it handles retention and deletion. You can revoke an app’s access after using it.
A Spotify subscription is not a way to restore a missing 2023 story. Someone seeking only that historical recap may gain little from subscribing now; check Spotify’s current Australian terms rather than assuming Premium is needed for Wrapped.
