Who did the 2024 Grammys In Memoriam honor?
The 2024 segment combined live performances for selected artists with a broader video memorial. The Academy’s official In Memoriam list covers members of the music community who died between Dec. 5, 2022, and Jan. 26, 2024. The Academy said people who died before the list was published were commemorated in the official 2024 GRAMMY program book.

How the tribute segment unfolded
The Academy’s Feb. 5 recap says Wonder began the memorial with Bennett’s archival duet. A video tribute to Buffett followed, then Lennox performed O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” with Melvoin and Coleman. After the package acknowledged Bacharach, the program turned to Avant, with Kravitz and Batiste’s performances. Oprah Winfrey then introduced Barrino’s “Proud Mary” for Turner.

The Academy had announced the planned assignments on Feb. 2: Wonder for Bennett; Lennox with Melvoin and Coleman for O’Connor; Batiste for Avant; and Barrino for Turner. The announcement also said Kravitz would participate in and introduce the Avant tribute, and Winfrey would introduce the Turner performance. The advance announcement describes the plan; the post-show recap records the aired sequence.
