The “great day” referred to Re:ZERO −Starting Life in Another World− Season 3 returning with its second cour after a broadcast break. It was not a new-season premiere or a surprise spin-off: the anime’s existing third season resumed, picking up the unresolved Priestella crisis from its first cour.
Because the original headline was written in early February 2025, “today” was time-specific. In the current franchise timeline, Season 3’s return is also part of a larger story: the official site announced a fourth television season on March 27, 2025.
What made the Season 3 return important?
Season 3 was structured as two cours, so its pause did not mean the season had ended. The second cour allowed viewers to continue directly from the first cour’s cliffhanger, where the Watergate City of Priestella remained under attack and the main characters were scattered among several simultaneous conflicts.
The first cour had brought together the camps competing in the Royal Selection before the Witch Cult turned that gathering into a city-wide emergency. The continuation moved from the initial shock of the assault into the difficult work of coordinating survivors, confronting the attackers and dealing with the consequences of the authorities wielded by the Sin Archbishops.

What to remember from the first cour
This is a spoiler-light refresher rather than a full episode-by-episode recap.
- Subaru, Emilia and the other major factions traveled to Priestella, the Watergate City.
- The Royal Selection camps were gathered in one place, creating an unusual concentration of allies, rivals and political interests.
- The Witch Cult attacked the city, with multiple Sin Archbishops using their distinct authorities to create confusion and catastrophe.
- The characters were separated across Priestella, leaving Subaru to build cooperation between groups that do not naturally trust one another.
- Subaru remained a coordinator and problem-solver rather than a conventional frontline fighter.
- Rem’s condition, including the loss of her memories and the uncertainty surrounding her identity, continued to shape the emotional stakes.
- Emilia’s group, Anastasia’s camp, Crusch’s camp and Priestella’s civilians all faced unresolved danger when the first cour stopped.
What the continuation covers
The returning cour continues the Priestella conflict and its aftermath. At a high level, it follows the effort to reclaim the city, manage the damage caused by the Witch Cult and bring the separated factions into a workable alliance.

Subaru’s changing role
The crisis places greater emphasis on Subaru’s ability to gather information, make plans and persuade people with different goals. His leadership is practical and often improvised, but the city’s survival depends on those coordinating skills.

Multiple factions, one emergency
The story keeps its ensemble structure: Emilia’s allies, Anastasia’s camp, Crusch’s camp and other survivors pursue connected objectives while facing different local threats. That makes the continuation more than a single duel or a straightforward rescue mission.
Character confrontations and consequences
The second cour develops the personal conflicts created by the attack, while preserving the series’ focus on contracts, authorities, memory and the cost of repeated failure. These are anime-viewing expectations, not a light-novel spoiler summary.

How to watch without getting lost
First-time viewers
Watch Re:ZERO in release order: Season 1, Season 2, then Season 3’s first cour before its second cour. The returning episodes assume knowledge of Subaru’s relationships, previous loops, contracts and the characters’ current memory states.
Returning viewers
If Season 3’s first cour is fresh in your mind, start with the second cour. If you watched it months earlier, revisit its final two or three episodes and review the factions in Priestella before continuing.
Viewers short on time
Use an official recap or a reputable episode guide rather than a generic isekai synopsis. A broad summary will not explain which characters remember what, who is bound by a contract or how each faction entered the city.
Streaming and dubbed versions
Availability is territory- and date-dependent. Check the current regional listing for the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom or Australia before subscribing, and distinguish a Japanese simulcast from later catalog access. Dub episodes can follow the Japanese broadcast, so verify the language track separately. Do not assume that every service carries every episode in every country.
Crunchyroll later announced that Season 4 would stream on its service in 2026, but that announcement does not by itself establish the current availability, dub schedule or licensing status of every Season 3 episode. The announcement is at Crunchyroll.

How the 2025 news fits the 2026 timeline
The February 2025 excitement was specifically about Season 3’s resumed second cour. It should not be confused with Season 4. The official franchise site announced Season 4 on March 27, 2025, in a separate production announcement: the official news post.
The site’s TV-anime archive records later 2026 franchise updates. Those notices establish that the series moved beyond the original Season 3 return, but an announcement is not the same as a confirmed local broadcast, dub date or current catalog listing. Check the official regional distributor information for those details.
Spoiler boundaries for this explanation
The article explains why the return mattered and what kind of story it continues without revealing the resolution of the Priestella conflict. Readers who want to discuss later light-novel developments should treat those as separate, clearly labeled spoilers. The official publication catalog is available at re-zero.com/books; material beyond the anime can reveal events that have not been adapted.
