Quick answer: Start with Another Simple Favor on Prime Video for a glossy mystery-comedy, The Four Seasons on Netflix for an adult ensemble series, or Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld on Disney+ for a Sunday animation binge. Documentary viewers should also put Chef’s Table: Legends and Genghis Khan: The Secret History of the Mongols near the top of the list.
Scope: U.S. streaming releases for May 1–7, 2025. Availability and release times can vary by territory, account type, and platform scheduling.

Why these six lead the list
Another Simple Favor — Prime Video, May 1
Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively return as Stephanie and Emily in this sequel to A Simple Favor. The action shifts to Emily’s wedding in Italy, making it an easy choice for a stylish, twist-driven movie night. It is best approached as a mystery-comedy for viewers who enjoyed the first film, not as a promise that the sequel surpasses it.

The Four Seasons — Netflix, May 1
Tina Fey, Will Forte, Steve Carell and Colman Domingo lead a new television adaptation of the 1981 film that starred Alan Alda, Carol Burnett and Rita Moreno. Six longtime friends move through a year of shared seasons after one couple’s breakup changes the group’s balance. Choose it when you want a character-led ensemble comedy rather than a crime or franchise series.
Chef’s Table: Legends — Netflix, May 1
This new installment of Netflix’s food-documentary franchise profiles Jamie Oliver, José Andrés, Alice Waters and Thomas Keller. The lineup spans restaurant technique, sustainability, humanitarian work and culinary influence, giving documentary viewers the week’s clearest nonfiction pick. No ranking against earlier Chef’s Table seasons is established here; the appeal is the four-chef focus.

Unseen, Season 2 — Netflix, May 2
The South African thriller returns for a second season. The May listings establish the release date, but not an episode count, story details or whether every episode arrives together, so check Netflix’s title page for the current rollout before planning a binge.
Black Bag — Peacock, May 2
The May schedule identifies Steven Soderbergh’s espionage film as a Peacock premiere/Peacock Exclusive. That wording indicates platform availability; it does not by itself establish that the film is a Peacock-produced original. It is the week’s most direct choice for viewers seeking a serious spy thriller.

For horror
Make a Netflix double feature of Train to Busan and Peninsula. Start with Train to Busan if you are new to the related zombie films; the pairing is a catalog opportunity, not a claim that the stories form a simple character continuation.
For food and documentary storytelling
Choose Chef’s Table: Legends. Jamie Oliver, José Andrés, Alice Waters and Thomas Keller provide four distinct culinary subjects rather than a single competition format.
For history
Try Genghis Khan: The Secret History of the Mongols on Disney+, listed as a six-episode first season.
For Star Wars
Watch Tales of the Underworld on May 4 for the all-episode animated release, then follow the separate Andor batch scheduled for May 6.

- Prime Video: Necessary for Another Simple Favor; whether it is worth adding depends on what else you watch through Prime Video or a broader Amazon membership. Visit Prime Video.
- Disney+: The strongest fit for Star Wars, family and franchise viewers, with Tales of the Underworld, Genghis Khan and continuing Andor programming. See Disney+.
- Hulu: Best for a mix of an original film premiere and rotating library movies such as Decision to Leave and Harbin. Check Hulu.
- Peacock: Relevant if you want Black Bag or live events such as the Kentucky Derby. Confirm plan and live-event requirements at Peacock.
- Max: This week’s listed arrival is Ready Player One; browse Max if it is already in your rotation.
These are release-concentration judgments, not universal value ratings. A single movie may not justify a new subscription; use an existing plan, a legitimately available promotion or your normal service rotation.
