Which Strong Anime Characters Can Jin-Woo Beat? A Version-by-Version Guide

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Endgame Sung Jin-Woo can beat many powerful anime fighters, but he cannot be treated as an automatic winner against every famous character. His best matchups are against physical combatants, large armies, and opponents without a reliable answer to regeneration, teleportation, stealth, or an expanding Shadow Army. Battles against top shonen characters depend on speed, sealing, durability, and whether their powers interact with souls. Reality warpers, time manipulators, conceptual beings, and characters who can erase him or his shadows are usually unfavorable.

These are reasoned cross-universe comparisons, not official crossover results. The conclusion changes substantially depending on whether you mean the anime version, the completed novel/webtoon version, or a game incarnation.

Set Jin-Woo’s version before comparing him

The anime begins with Jinwoo as the weakest hunter, gives him a battle-based leveling ability, and eventually places him on the path to the Shadow Monarch role. An anime-only Jinwoo has not yet demonstrated the complete endgame toolkit used in most “who would win” discussions.

For the strongest baseline, use end-of-main-story Sung Jin-Woo from the completed novel/webtoon continuity. That version inherits the original Shadow Monarch’s authority, commands an enormous army of risen shadows, and is described in endgame summaries as defeating the other Monarchs, including Antares. Netmarble’s Solo Leveling: KARMA material identifies Antares as “the Monarch of Destruction and King of Dragons,” while Igris is described as one of Jinwoo’s two most trusted warriors after he unlocks his full Shadow Monarch abilities.

Do not use Solo Leveling: ARISE statistics as if they were novel canon. Netmarble’s game update raises that game’s Shadow Monarch job level cap from 150 to 160; those numbers measure the game system, not a universal power scale for Jin-Woo.

The six questions that decide a cross-anime fight

A name-by-name ranking is misleading unless the rules are stated. Evaluate both characters on these six axes:

  1. Version and peak state: Identify the exact arc, transformation, equipment, and whether temporary forms are allowed.
  2. Speed and reaction time: An army is irrelevant if Jin-Woo cannot perceive or survive the opponent’s opening attack.
  3. Durability and regeneration: Ask whether either fighter can recover from lethal wounds and whether that recovery can be exhausted.
  4. Battlefield control and numbers: Count summons, clones, area attacks, teleportation, barriers, and the ability to fight on several fronts.
  5. Resistance to death, soul, sealing, or reality effects: Conventional toughness does not answer an ability that bypasses the body.
  6. Victory condition: Decide whether incapacitation, death, sealing, ring-out, or Shadow Extraction counts, and whether the defeated character can return.

Strong characters Jin-Woo is generally favored to beat

These outcomes assume endgame Jin-Woo, standard access to his shadows, no prep time for the opponent, and ordinary cross-universe interaction. “Favored” means the matchup has a defensible win route; it does not mean a guaranteed one-hit victory.

Opponent and version Why Jin-Woo is favored Important condition
Adult Gon, Hunter Ă— Hunter Adult Gon’s explosive physical power and speed are enormous, but the form is temporary and he has no established answer to an army that can replace losses, attack from concealment, and let Jin-Woo reposition. If Adult Gon’s first attack is granted a speed advantage large enough to prevent any response, the result becomes conditional.
Meruem before the Rose aftermath, Hunter Ă— Hunter Meruem is a superior close-range strategist and combatant, yet he still fights as a physical being. Jin-Woo can force a prolonged, multi-directional battle rather than trade blows one at a time. Equalized speed and a rule that removes all shadows after Jin-Woo’s defeat make Meruem’s odds much better.
All Might during his weakened hero era, My Hero Academia His punches can devastate an area, but stamina, range, and the inability to permanently clear every shadow give Jin-Woo several routes to outlast and surround him. Prime All Might, rather than the weakened version seen in the main story, belongs in the conditional category because the speed and striking gap is less certain.
Tanjiro at the end of Demon Slayer while still human Tanjiro’s swordsmanship and battle senses do not establish resistance to Shadow Monarch abilities, regeneration, teleportation, or attacks from numerous directions. The demon-king version has different durability and recovery questions; do not merge the two forms.
Most conventional military or monster armies Numbers that rely on ordinary bodies are exactly what the Shadow Army is designed to overwhelm. Jin-Woo can split his forces, strike commanders, and convert defeated enemies when the extraction rules permit it. Energy attacks, sealing, anti-summon powers, or a commander who can erase souls can reverse this advantage.

Matchups that depend on the rules

Top shonen fighters are not one category. Their results change with speed scaling, spiritual interaction, and whether their special abilities bypass ordinary durability.

Naruto Uzumaki (Six Paths Sage of Six Paths)

Naruto brings enormous area attacks, sensory abilities, clones, flight, and sealing options. Jin-Woo’s army and regeneration make a direct defeat difficult, but Naruto does not need to kill every shadow if he can seal Jin-Woo or remove him from the battlefield. With equalized speed and no effective sealing, Jin-Woo’s numbers become more important; with Naruto’s strongest sealing tools fully valid, the fight is close and may favor Naruto.

Ichigo Kurosaki (Thousand-Year Blood War)

Ichigo’s peak speed, striking power, and spiritual nature create two unresolved questions: whether his attacks can permanently destroy Jin-Woo’s essence, and whether Jin-Woo can physically target a soul-reaper in the same way he targets a human. If spiritual interaction is equalized, this is a high-difficulty duel in which Ichigo’s speed can prevent army tactics from developing. If it is not, no confident verdict is justified.

Satoru Gojo

Gojo’s Infinity is a defensive rule, not merely high durability. Jin-Woo can fill the field with shadows, but more bodies do not automatically cross an infinite-distance barrier. Domain Expansion, teleportation, and the question of whether Shadow Monarch attacks bypass Infinity must be answered before naming a winner. Under ordinary interpretations, Gojo is at least a serious conditional opponent rather than a routine army target.

Goku

Against late-Dragon Ball Goku, reaction speed and destructive output are the central issues. If Goku can immediately perceive and overwhelm Jin-Woo before the army matters, Jin-Woo loses the practical fight. If the comparison equalizes speed, limits the battlefield, or treats defeat as something other than total erasure, Jin-Woo’s regeneration, mobility, and attrition strategy become relevant. No single “Goku” result covers every transformation.

Saitama

Saitama’s intentionally open-ended growth makes numerical scaling unreliable. Jin-Woo has more tools and more ways to create a battle objective, but Saitama may simply survive or overpower every conventional attack. The honest label is unresolved unless the comparison specifies a continuity, a win condition, and whether Saitama’s demonstrated feats or implied ceiling controls.

Ainz Ooal Gown

Ainz is physically less overwhelming than the highest shonen heroes but introduces time stop, instant-death magic, summons, and layered defensive effects. Jin-Woo’s resistance to ordinary death is not automatically resistance to every magical death effect. If Ainz’s time stop and instant-death abilities work normally, this is a dangerous tactical fight; if those effects fail against Shadow Monarch authority, Jin-Woo’s mobility and army give him the advantage.

Opponents who are usually bad matchups for Jin-Woo

The clearest counters are not simply “stronger punches.” They are abilities that ignore the assumptions behind healing, bodies, and replaceable soldiers.

Opponent and version Why the matchup is unfavorable What could keep it unresolved
Zeno, Dragon Ball Super His erasure operates on a scale that can remove beings and worlds rather than damage a body. An army or regeneration strategy provides no established defense against total erasure. A non-combat scenario, restricted erasure, or a rule that disallows it.
Ultimate Madoka, Puella Magi Madoka Magica Her existence and influence function at a conceptual and multiversal level. Shadow soldiers are not a demonstrated answer to a being that rewrites the structure of a phenomenon. Only a heavily restricted interpretation that removes her conceptual authority.
Giorno Giovanna with Gold Experience Requiem Return-to-zero can negate an opponent’s action before it reaches a successful result. That attacks the victory condition itself rather than Jin-Woo’s durability. The result depends on whether Requiem can affect Shadow Monarch authority and whether its effect is limited to the local timeline.
Haruhi Suzumiya at full reality-warping interpretation Reality alteration makes conventional combat statistics beside the point. Jin-Woo cannot outnumber a power that can change the conditions of existence. Stories often leave Haruhi’s control implicit; a restricted, unconscious-only reading is less decisive.
High-end time or future manipulators Characters who stop time, rewrite causality, or select a future in which Jin-Woo has already lost can bypass the normal sequence in which he summons, heals, and counterattacks. Specify the exact character and whether the time effect reaches souls, summons, and the Shadow Monarch realm.

Can Jin-Woo solo other anime universes?

No blanket “solo” claim is defensible. He can plausibly clear settings dominated by conventional physical fighters, finite armies, and monsters that lack soul, sealing, or reality-countering abilities. He cannot be assumed to clear a universe containing even one active, top-tier reality warper or causality manipulator, because that character may end the fight without engaging the Shadow Army.

Verse-wide battles also create a numbers problem for Jin-Woo. His army is a major advantage against many opponents, but it is not an automatic defense against a speed blitz, a global seal, a domain that traps every combatant, or an effect that erases the battlefield itself.

What is Jin-Woo’s strongest form?

For this comparison, it is end-of-main-story Sung Jin-Woo as the fully realized Shadow Monarch, not a displayed level from Solo Leveling: ARISE. His advantage comes from the combination of Monarch authority, an army of arisen shadows, personal combat ability, mobility, regeneration, and the option to turn defeated enemies into additional forces when the target satisfies the extraction rules.

That package is why a single-versus-single power ranking undersells him. An opponent must defeat Jin-Woo, prevent him from returning, and stop his army from controlling the battlefield. Against hax users, however, those advantages matter only if they can interact with the opponent’s ability.

Does Shadow Extraction work on other anime characters?

There is no official crossover rule. Treat Shadow Extraction as a stated assumption, not a universal law.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Strict interpretation: Extraction works only when the opponent is genuinely defeated and possesses a compatible body, soul, or shadow under Solo Leveling mechanics.
  • Generous crossover interpretation: Any defeated biological or spiritual opponent can become a shadow unless its canon explicitly prevents resurrection or soul manipulation.
  • Blocked interpretation: Erased beings, conceptual entities, characters protected by anti-soul abilities, and opponents who are sealed rather than defeated cannot automatically be extracted.

Extraction also does not prove that Jin-Woo wins the fight. He must first satisfy the victory condition, and an opponent may prevent that condition through sealing, total erasure, immortality, or a rule that leaves no recoverable essence.

How to state a responsible verdict

Use a qualified conclusion instead of a universal tier list:

  • Favored: Endgame Jin-Woo has more reliable win routes under the stated rules.
  • Conditional: A specific ability, speed assumption, or interaction rule can swing the result.
  • Likely loss: The opponent’s canon power directly bypasses the Shadow Monarch toolkit.
  • Unresolved: The franchises never establish how the relevant powers interact, so a precise winner would be invented rather than demonstrated.

The completed novel/webtoon is the appropriate reference point for endgame claims. Yen Press publishes the official comic and an eight-volume Solo Leveling novel line; anime-only viewers should not treat the adaptation’s current portrayal as the character’s final ceiling.
