Donnington Hall is Elizabeth Hurley’s Grade II listed country house near Ledbury, Herefordshire—not Donnington Castle in Berkshire or Donington Hall in Leicestershire. The best-documented account says Hurley and Shane Warne bought the approximately 200-acre estate for £6 million in 2012. The title’s “$8 million” figure is not supported as a current valuation: available reporting offers only historical sale data and a separate, dated media estimate.

Where is Donnington Hall?

Donnington Hall stands near Ledbury in Herefordshire, in England’s West Midlands. Its identity is often confused online with similarly named properties in Berkshire and Leicestershire, but the house associated with Elizabeth Hurley is the Herefordshire estate recorded by Historic England as “Donnington Hall, Donnington.”

What is known about the house and estate?

The Victoria County History’s account of the 2012 purchase describes a 13-bedroom mansion set in approximately 200 acres. Those figures come from its 2023 publication of a draft local-history chapter and describe the property at that time, rather than a current estate listing.

  • Location: near Ledbury, Herefordshire
  • Bedrooms: 13, according to the Victoria County History account of the purchase
  • Grounds: approximately 200 acres in that same account
  • Designation: Grade II listed country house

How much did Elizabeth Hurley pay?

The Victoria County History reports that Hurley and the late Shane Warne purchased Donnington Hall in 2012 for £6 million. That is a historical transaction price, not evidence of what the property is worth today.

Because the sources use different currencies, dates and source types, the figures should not be treated as a direct price comparison. No primary appraisal, present-day sale price or verified current valuation is available in the cited material.

How old is Donnington Hall?

Historic England’s statutory listing dates the core of the present country house to the mid-18th century. It records extensive remodeling and enlargement in 1909 for Admiral Fanshawe, carried out by an architect identified as Ogilvy. The property was first listed on 18 November 1952 and is designated Grade II.

The Victoria County History notes that a mansion known as “the Hall” is mentioned in 1675. That documentary reference establishes the estate’s earlier history; it does not date the construction of the current mid-18th-century house.

What did Elizabeth Hurley say about finding the property?

In a June 2014 interview with Country & Town House, Hurley said she discovered Donnington through an advertisement in the magazine and was drawn to its photograph. She recalled expecting a “Barbie-pink façade,” but finding “a lovely mellow stone” instead. As she put it, “when I saw the picture of Donnington, I just fell in love.” These are Hurley’s comments from that 2014 interview, not a current statement.

Hurley also said much of the previous owners’ contents remained after the sale, including books, beds and cellar stock. She explained that she subsequently had to furnish the house afresh and “put my own stamp on it.” The remarks describe her experience and intentions; they are not an independently verified inventory of the house.

What is not confirmed about the mansion?

  • There is no verified current market value establishing the headline’s $8 million claim.
  • The $11 million figure is a 2020 media estimate, not an appraisal.
  • Current ownership, present condition and current contents are not established by the cited sources.
  • Donnington Hall’s public access or visitor status has not been verified; it should not be presented as an open attraction.
  • A 2020 report cited 187 acres, while the Victoria County History gives approximately 200 acres. The figures belong to different dated accounts and should not be merged into a single precise measurement.

Why the “mega mansion” label needs context

Donnington Hall is substantial by any ordinary country-house measure: a listed historic mansion, 13 bedrooms and extensive grounds. Yet “mega mansion” is a media description rather than an architectural or legal category. The documented facts are more specific: a mid-18th-century core, major 1909 enlargement, Grade II status and the 2012 £6 million purchase reported by the Victoria County History.
