Lucasfilm cancelled the Disney+ series in August 2024, so there is no release date, production schedule or confirmed second-season cast.
Is The Acolyte season 2 happening?
No. ABC News reported on August 20, 2024, that Lucasfilm had ended plans for additional episodes. Because a second season never entered production, Disney has announced no premiere date, filming timetable or episode count.

What that means for viewers
- There is no season-two release date to wait for.
- No season-two contracts or official return announcements exist for the original cast.
- Any plot, casting or production details discussed since the cancellation describe an unmade project, not an active series.
When did the only season premiere?
The live-action series debuted on Disney+ on June 4, 2024. Lucasfilm placed its story roughly 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace. Leslye Headland created and showran the series.
Which actors were in season 1, and would they have returned?
Official launch coverage identified these principal cast members:

- Amandla Stenberg
- Lee Jung-jae
- Manny Jacinto
- Dafne Keen
- Charlie Barnett
- Jodie Turner-Smith
- Rebecca Henderson
- Dean-Charles Chapman
- Carrie-Anne Moss
None can accurately be described as returning for season 2. Lucasfilm did not put a follow-up into production, and no cast renewal announcements were made.
What would season 2 have been about?
Headland has spoken about ideas she would have pursued, but those ideas were never commissioned. GamesRadar reported in June 2026 that she said, I would still want to do it! Absolutely,
while explaining that a hypothetical continuation would have connected Manny Jacinto’s Qimir to the sequel era.
Rank #2
That is a creator’s description of an unproduced direction. It is not a confirmed story outline, casting announcement or indication that the series has been revived.
Why was The Acolyte cancelled?
The confirmed fact is the cancellation decision itself. The available reporting identifies Lucasfilm as ending prospects for more episodes but does not establish a single official reason for that decision. Claims that assign a specific cause go beyond what has been publicly confirmed here.

What audience numbers were reported?
The Walt Disney Company published two early viewing figures for the premiere:
| Measure | Reported result | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| First day | 4.8 million views | Disney figure reported in 2024 |
| First five days | 11.1 million global views | Disney figure reported in 2024 |
| Company description | Biggest Disney+ series premiere of 2024 at that point | Disney’s characterization at the time of the announcement |
Is there any official continuation to read?
A separate, released tie-in is Star Wars: The Acolyte — Wayseeker, a High Republic novel by Justina Ireland published July 29, 2025. It is canonical follow-on material for readers interested in the wider era, but it is not season 2 and does not represent a television renewal.
