Netflix released the official teaser for its Spanish-language adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude on April 17, 2024. The short first look introduced Macondo and the Buendía family’s world; it was not the fuller trailer that followed in November. The two-part series has since reached its conclusion, with Part 1 premiering in December 2024 and Part 2 arriving in August 2026.
What Netflix’s first teaser showed
Watch Netflix’s official teaser. The footage establishes the atmosphere of Macondo, the fictional Colombian town at the center of the story, and offers glimpses of the Buendía family and the novel’s magical-realist world. Domestic life, political turmoil, memory, prophecy and the supernatural sit alongside one another, rather than being presented as separate worlds.
It is a tone-setting first look, not a scene-by-scene account of the plot. The teaser foregrounds the story’s Colombian setting and scale without explaining the family’s full history or identifying every image as a specific event from the novel.
What the series is about
The series adapts García Márquez’s 1967 novel, following the Buendía family across generations as they build lives in Macondo. The book’s long family line, recurring names and cyclical view of history can make it challenging for newcomers to keep track of who is who. Its magical realism also treats extraordinary events as part of ordinary life, a quality that a television adaptation must convey through performance, pacing and imagery rather than simply reproduce on the page.

Netflix presents the screen version in two parts of eight episodes each. That structure gives the saga room to unfold, but the series remains an adaptation: it should not be mistaken for a literal, page-by-page translation of the novel.
Who made the adaptation?
Netflix’s production materials identify Dynamo as the production company and name José Rivera, Natalia Santa, Camila Brugés and Albatros González as writers. Part 1’s directing was divided between Alex García López, who directed episodes 1–3 and 7–8, and Laura Mora, who directed episodes 4–6. Netflix’s announcement for the concluding installment identifies Mora and Carlos Moreno as its directors.

- Filming and language: The series was filmed entirely in Colombia and in Spanish, according to Netflix.
- Family involvement: Netflix says the production was made with the support and collaboration of García Márquez’s family. That wording does not imply that family members personally approved every creative choice.
- Executive producers: Diego Ramírez Schrempp, Juliana Flórez Luna, Andrés Calderón, Josep Amorós, Carolina Caicedo, Alex García López, Laura Mora, José Rivera, Rodrigo García and Gonzalo García Barcha.
Those details matter to the adaptation’s identity: this is a Colombian and Spanish-language production of a foundational Spanish-language work, not a generic fantasy series relocated from its cultural setting.

Netflix’s Tudum series guide covers the release, cast and promotional materials. The April video is properly called a teaser; the November release is the trailer. Netflix’s materials call the installments Part 1 and Part 2, rather than seasons.

Why the production stands out
One Hundred Years of Solitude is one of García Márquez’s best-known novels, and adapting its immense family saga means making choices about chronology, repeated names, supernatural episodes and the balance between intimate family life and larger historical forces. The teaser offers no basis for claiming that the screen version reproduces every part of the book exactly; it does establish a substantial, Colombia-based production working in the novel’s language and setting.
Netflix describes the project as one of its major Latin American productions. Its production feature discusses how the work was brought to screen, while its first-look announcement confirms the Colombian filming and Spanish-language production.
