No new Apple TV 4K launched in 2025. Apple’s current model remains the third-generation Apple TV 4K introduced in October 2022. The latest credible reporting points to a replacement in fall 2026, but Apple has not announced a date, price, chip or final feature list.
If your current Apple TV works, waiting is sensible—especially if you want the rumored Siri AI capabilities. If you need a streaming box or smart-home hub now, the 2022 model is still a capable purchase, particularly at a genuine clearance discount.
Was there a 2025 Apple TV 4K launch?
No. The 2025 release window passed without Apple announcing or shipping a new Apple TV 4K. Reports that predicted a late-2025 model are now historical, missed predictions—not confirmation of a launch.

What is the latest rumored release window?
The strongest current reporting points to fall 2026. Bloomberg reported on July 28, 2026, that Apple’s new television set-top box and a refreshed HomePod mini were nearly ready and planned for release in the fall. That is reporting based on unnamed sources, not an Apple announcement.
“Fall 2026” does not establish an October event, a preorder date or a retail-availability date. Apple could announce hardware and ship it later, and the schedule could still change. The most accurate wording is: Apple’s next Apple TV 4K is rumored for fall 2026, but Apple has not announced a date.

Why might the launch have slipped?
Apple has not said that it delayed an Apple TV. The leading explanation is an inference from its software timetable and reported product plans: Apple appears to want new home hardware ready for its more capable Siri and Apple Intelligence features.

Apple’s June 2026 announcements schedule next-generation software and Siri AI capabilities for fall 2026. Bloomberg-linked reporting says the Apple TV and HomePod mini were held until they could support that newer experience. This is a reported rationale, not a confirmed corporate explanation.
That timing also explains why a simple processor refresh may not have appeared in 2025. Apple may be treating the next set-top box as part of a broader smart-home push rather than as a routine annual streaming-device update.

Earlier stories and wish lists have also mentioned 8K, 4K/120Hz gaming, lossless audio passthrough, a built-in camera, a “Pro” model and a lower price. None should be presented as planned features without a future Apple announcement or a well-sourced original report.

Apple’s tvOS 26 introduced the Liquid Glass redesign and is available on Apple TV 4K models from the second generation onward. A tvOS 27 beta is also being tested as of August 2026.

Software support and hardware capability are separate. An existing Apple TV can receive tvOS updates without supporting every future Siri AI or Apple Intelligence feature. Apple’s June 2026 compatibility announcement lists supported iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watch models and Vision Pro, but not the current Apple TV 4K.
Should you buy now or wait?
Buy the current Apple TV 4K if:
- You need a replacement immediately.
- You own an Apple TV HD or first-generation Apple TV 4K.
- You want AirPlay, Apple services, Fitness+ or a HomeKit/Thread hub now.
- You find the clearly identified 2022 model at a substantial, legitimate discount.
Wait if:
- Your 2022 Apple TV 4K already works well.
- Your main reason to upgrade is Siri AI or future Apple Intelligence capability.
- You can wait through fall 2026 without a guaranteed launch date.
- You want to see whether Apple changes the remote, wireless hardware or storage options.
A newer chip may improve menus, games or voice processing, but it will not automatically make Netflix, Disney+ or other streams look better. Picture quality still depends on the service, content, television and audio equipment.

Alternatives while you decide
- Roku Ultra: a platform-neutral choice with broad mainstream app support; less suitable for households centered on Apple services and HomeKit.
- Google TV Streamer: a better fit for Google accounts and Google smart-home devices; it does not provide Apple’s tvOS experience.
- Nvidia Shield TV Pro: attractive for Plex, local media and enthusiast playback, but excessive for simple streaming and not an Apple ecosystem substitute.
Do not buy an alternative solely to avoid a rumor. Choose based on the services, smart-home platform and local-media features you actually use.
Bottom line
The “Apple TV 4K 2025 launch” did not happen. The best current estimate is a fall 2026 replacement linked to Apple’s delayed Siri AI strategy, but the date and specifications remain unconfirmed. Buy the current third-generation model for an immediate need or a deep discount; otherwise, owners of the 2022 box have little reason to rush.
