Apple has not officially announced or explained a 2026 Apple TV 4K delay. However, the strongest reporting says Apple is holding the next model so it can launch with its delayed, more capable Siri and a broader smart-home push. That points to a strategic, software-led postponement—not evidence of a confirmed manufacturing failure.
As of August 18, 2026, the most defensible launch expectation is fall 2026, possibly alongside iOS 27. Apple has not confirmed a date, specifications or that every rumored Siri feature will work on the television.
What is actually delayed?
Apple still sells the third-generation Apple TV 4K, introduced in October 2022 and released November 4 that year. Apple has made no public statement confirming a fourth-generation model, a launch date or a formal delay.
Reports from MacRumors nevertheless say the hardware is nearly ready but has been held for the next-generation Siri. “Nearly ready” does not mean mass production, regional certification, pricing or software are finalized, so the report should not be treated as an Apple specification sheet.

The Siri connection
At WWDC26 on June 8, Apple announced a substantially more capable Siri platform. Apple says the new assistant can understand what is on screen, use personal context from information across apps, perform broader system actions, search the web and maintain conversational context. The announcement says the features entered developer testing; it does not promise a complete Apple TV feature set.
The timing matters because Apple TV is more than a streaming box. Apple positions it as a Siri-controlled living-room device and a smart-home hub supporting Matter and, on the Ethernet model, Thread. A new box with the same headline Siri experience as the old one would be a difficult upgrade story. Holding the hardware lets Apple present the television, HomePod updates and a reported home hub as one connected home platform.

That explanation is an inference from reporting and Apple’s announced software direction, not an admission from Apple that Siri caused the delay.
Why not ship the hardware first?
- Clearer product positioning: A faster processor alone may not persuade current owners to replace a still-capable Apple TV. New Siri functions provide a more visible reason to upgrade.
- Ecosystem coordination: Apple reportedly wants the Apple TV, HomePod and a new home hub to launch as parts of one smart-home story.
- Possible hardware requirements: More advanced local or hybrid AI could benefit from additional memory, processing and networking capacity. This is plausible, but Apple has not stated the requirements for Apple TV.
- Quality control: Apple has described the new Siri as a major systemwide capability. Delaying a flagship living-room endpoint is consistent with waiting until the assistant is reliable enough for a broad launch.
What the 2026 Apple TV 4K may include

Even if the box launches in fall, Siri features could be beta software, arrive later, or vary by language and region. “Supports Siri” on today’s Apple TV should not be confused with the broader Apple Intelligence platform announced at WWDC26.

How old is the current model?
The current Apple TV 4K uses the A15 Bionic chip and comes in two U.S. configurations: 64GB Wi-Fi and 128GB Wi-Fi plus Ethernet. Apple lists the Ethernet model with Thread support. After nearly four years on sale, the product is late in its usual cycle, which explains the heightened expectations—but does not prove a launch is imminent.
Current price and the outdated $129 figure
Apple’s U.S. store currently lists the 64GB Wi-Fi model at $199 and the 128GB Wi-Fi-plus-Ethernet model at $249. Apple is also advertising three months of Apple TV with purchase, a promotion whose terms and availability can change. The often-quoted $129 was the October 2022 launch price, not the current U.S. price. Check Apple’s store listing for your region.

Should you buy now or wait?
Buy the current Apple TV 4K if:
- You need a dependable Apple streaming box immediately.
- You use AirPods, HomePod, Apple Arcade, FaceTime on TV or Apple smart-home controls.
- You do not specifically need the new Siri AI features.
- You accept that a replacement could arrive within months.
Wait if:
- Your main reason to upgrade is the new Siri experience.
- You can keep using an existing Apple TV while waiting.
- You want newer processing or networking hardware and would dislike paying today’s full price just before a refresh.
- You are building an Apple-centered smart home and want to see how the rumored hub and HomePod products fit together.
Buy cautiously if:
- You require guaranteed A17 Pro, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, extra RAM or a redesigned remote.
- You expect every Apple Intelligence feature to be available on Apple TV at launch.
- You live in a region where new Siri capabilities may arrive later or with different language support.
What remains unknown
- The announcement and shipping dates.
- Price, storage tiers and whether Apple will keep two configurations.
- The processor, RAM and networking hardware.
- Which Siri functions will run on Apple TV and whether they require a paired iPhone or another device.
- Regional, language and launch-day availability.
- Remote design and whether Thread support will remain limited to an Ethernet model.
Until Apple publishes product and software details, treat fall 2026 as a reported window rather than a promise. The practical story is simple: Apple appears to be waiting for its software narrative to catch up with hardware that may already be close to finished.
