YouTube Premium Family is not generally removed from India. India is listed as a Premium market, and YouTube provides an official Family-plan signup route. If the option is missing from your account, the cause may be an account, payment-profile or family-group restriction—not a hidden plan. Start at youtube.com/premium/family, signed in to the personal Google Account that should manage the plan. Family members must live at the same residential address; sharing across households is not an eligible workaround.
Is YouTube Premium Family available in India?
Yes. YouTube lists India among the locations where Premium is available and documents how to start or upgrade to a Family plan. That does not guarantee the option will appear for every account: country availability, account eligibility and household eligibility are separate requirements. YouTube’s availability and location guidance also warns against misrepresenting your location.

The Family plan can cover the manager and up to five other people—six accounts total—provided they meet YouTube’s requirements, including living at the same residential address. YouTube says it electronically checks the household requirement every 30 days. See its Family plan requirements.

Find the official Family-plan option
If you are starting a new subscription
- Open YouTube in a browser and sign in to the personal Google Account that will manage the plan.
- Go to youtube.com/premium/family.
- Select Get family plan and follow the checkout prompts.
- Create or confirm your Google family group, then invite up to five eligible household members.
If the app shows only Individual, Student, Lite or Two-person, try the official browser page. This is a supported signup route, not a way to bypass an account restriction.
If you already have individual Premium
On the web, open youtube.com/paid_memberships, select Get family plan, select it again if prompted, then choose Upgrade. Follow the prompts to set up or confirm the family group.

In the YouTube app, the documented route is Profile picture → Purchases and memberships → your Premium membership → Get family plan. The exact screens can differ by device. YouTube’s instructions are available for Android and iPhone and iPad.

Why the Family plan may be missing
- You are already in a Google family group. Only that group’s family manager can buy a YouTube Family plan. A member cannot purchase one for the group. Check your Google family-group settings; ask its manager to subscribe, or consider leaving before creating a separate group. Don’t leave casually: family-group changes are limited, and YouTube says switching groups may be restricted to once every 12 months.
- You are signed in to the wrong account. Check the profile picture and confirm you are using the intended personal account—not another account already attached to a family group.
- You use a Google Workspace account. Work or school Workspace accounts cannot start or join a YouTube Family plan. Use an eligible personal Google Account instead.
- You have an active annual Premium plan. Annual plans are individual-only. You must wait for the annual term to expire before moving to a multi-person plan; see YouTube’s annual-plan rules.
- Your payment country or profile does not match your location. YouTube says multiple Google Play payment profiles can cause signup problems, and the relevant Google Pay country or region must match your actual location. If you live in India, check that the active profile reflects India.
- You recently changed family groups. A 12-month family-group switching restriction may prevent you from joining or creating another group.
- You are seeing a different plan offer or surface. India-listed Two-person, Student or other offers may appear without proving Family is universally unavailable. Try the web route and check the account conditions above.

Fix “Family is not supported” or “Country is not supported”
- Open Google Payments settings and identify the active payment profile used for YouTube or Google Play.
- Confirm that its country or region matches where you actually live. If you live in India, check for India; don’t enter a false address or billing location.
- Look for multiple payment profiles that could be causing a mismatch. Google’s country-change rules may apply, so changing a profile is not necessarily immediate or available in every situation.
- Sign out of YouTube and back in, then retry the official Family page in a browser.
- If the error remains, use YouTube’s official support flow. Save a screenshot of the missing option or error and note which account and plan type you are using.
A family member may also be unable to join if their country does not match the manager’s location. Do not use a VPN to force a country setting; correct genuine account or payment-profile discrepancies instead.
Who can join a Family plan?
The family manager can invite up to five other people. Each member needs a Google Account, must be eligible to join a family group, and must live at the same residential address as the manager. Members cannot belong to another family group or be blocked by the family-group switching restriction. YouTube’s Family plan eligibility guidance sets out these requirements.

Being in India—or even in the same state—is not enough. YouTube’s stated requirement is the same household and residential address. The plan is not intended for friends in other cities, relatives at separate homes, remote employees, students who have moved out or people buying “slots” from strangers.

YouTube says it performs an electronic check-in every 30 days to confirm that members live with the family manager. If it cannot confirm the household, a member may receive a notice that Premium access will be paused. Check the notice and the account used for membership; if the member genuinely shares the manager’s home, contact YouTube Support rather than trying to defeat the check.

Indian Express reporting in 2025 described household-enforcement emails and paused access. YouTube’s own documentation remains the authority for the plan’s stated requirements and checks.
Can a VPN unlock the plan?
There is no reliable, policy-compliant VPN workaround for an account that is not eligible. YouTube warns that misrepresenting your country or circumventing availability restrictions—including by using a VPN—can result in membership cancellation. A VPN, remote home VPN or account seller also does not make separate households eligible under the same-address rule. Use the account’s real location and the official signup or support route.
Which Premium option fits?

Compare the amount, billing interval and any offer shown at the official checkout before subscribing. Prices can change, and a checkout amount may depend on the account or promotion. Don’t rely on an undated third-party price as a current universal Indian rate.

If it still does not appear
- Retry the direct Family page in a desktop browser.
- Confirm the signed-in account is personal and is the account you want as family manager.
- Check whether it already belongs to a family group and whether a 12-month switching restriction applies.
- Check for an active annual plan and confirm the relevant Google Pay profile’s country matches your actual location.
- Capture a screenshot of the plan list or error message and contact official YouTube Support.
A third-party “Premium slot” seller is not an official solution and cannot guarantee continued access or household eligibility. Use YouTube’s own subscription and support pages.
