If HiAnime will not load, the problem may not be your device. Reports say the original service went offline on March 13, 2026, and a later community notice said it had ceased operations. That conclusion is not backed by a verifiable first-party shutdown statement, but it makes a permanent service outage more likely than a browser problem. Don’t assume a newly appearing “HiAnime” domain is genuine.
You can still use a few low-risk checks to tell whether the failure is local. They cannot restore a closed service.

Why HiAnime may not be working
“Not working” can mean a domain times out, returns a 404, or fails to resolve; the homepage opens but has no catalog; episodes or subtitles fail; or the player spins without starting. The cause could be your browser or network, a broken episode source, a dead domain, or a service-wide shutdown.

The latter is a community post, not an independently authenticated first-party statement, so the most careful description is that HiAnime appears to have shut down.

HiAnime has also appeared in piracy-related government documentation: the U.S. Trade Representative’s Notorious Markets material identifies it among reported pirate streaming sites. This is not a licensed streaming service, and finding a working page with the same name does not establish that it is genuine.
First, check whether the problem is local
- Open a few unrelated websites. If those fail too, start with your internet connection or router. If they work and only HiAnime fails, the domain or service may be unavailable.
- Compare Wi-Fi with cellular data. If HiAnime fails on every device on one Wi-Fi network but works on cellular, the issue may involve that network, its DNS, or filtering. If it fails on both, a local Wi-Fi problem is less likely.
- Try a private window. Chrome or Edge: Ctrl+Shift+N on Windows or Command+Shift+N on Mac. Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P or Command+Shift+P. If the page behaves differently there, an extension, cookie, or cached site setting may be involved.
- Try another up-to-date browser and check that your device’s date and time are set automatically. Incorrect time can cause HTTPS certificate errors.
- Restart your device and router if other connection problems are present. Avoid repeatedly refreshing an address that appears dead.
If private browsing works, disable extensions one at a time to identify a conflict. Ad blockers, script blockers, privacy filters, proxy extensions, and download managers can affect embedded players. You can also clear cookies and cached files for the affected domain rather than wiping all browser data. You may need to sign in again.

If the page opens but video does not
Try these checks in order: reload once; test a private window; temporarily disable extensions for that page; try a different browser; then test another episode. If one episode fails while others play, its source, subtitles, or metadata may be broken. If every title fails across browsers and networks, the problem is more likely at the service or video-host end.

Do not install a codec, executable player, browser extension, or APK offered by a pop-up. A site that says your device has a virus and urges an immediate download is a warning sign, not a trustworthy diagnosis.

DNS checks: useful for diagnosis, not a shutdown fix
A stale local DNS cache can sometimes cause a domain-resolution problem. Flushing it is a low-risk diagnostic step; it does not change your DNS provider or bring an offline site back.
Windows Command Prompt:
ipconfig /flushdnsWindows should report that the DNS Resolver Cache was successfully flushed.

macOS Terminal:
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponderBehavior can vary by macOS version. These commands reset local DNS caching; they do not change your provider.
To check whether a name resolves, run nslookup example-domain.com on Windows or dig example-domain.com on macOS or Linux, replacing the example with the domain you are checking. An NXDOMAIN result means that name did not resolve through that DNS path. An IP address only shows that DNS returned an address; it does not prove the site is genuine or safe, or that its web server is available.

Changing DNS providers may help with a name-resolution issue, but it cannot fix a dead site, missing server, or shutdown. It also does not make an unofficial mirror trustworthy or guarantee access if the connection is blocked elsewhere. DNS changes affect the device or network you configure; follow the provider’s official setup instructions and local rules.

A HiAnime community notice listed historical domains including hianime.to, hianime.nz, hianime.bz, hianime.do, hianime.pe, hianime.cx, z.is, z.to, and hianime.tv, later associated with hianime.me. That list is community-supplied and historical: it is not proof that any address still works, remains controlled by the same operator, or is safe today. The same notice warned that other sites using the name were unofficial.
Treat a domain as suspicious if it claims to be the “new official” site without a verifiable announcement, asks you to install an app or extension, demands notification permission or payment, or sends you through unrelated redirects. A familiar logo or a working video page is not proof of authenticity. A 404 may mean a page was removed, a route is broken, or a domain was repurposed; clearing your cache will not necessarily help.

- Do not install a sideloaded “HiAnime” APK, extension, or player.
- Do not enable notifications to dismiss a fake warning.
- Do not enter your password or payment details on a replacement domain.
- If you reused a password there, change it on legitimate services and enable multifactor authentication where available.
Should you use a VPN?
A VPN changes the network route, so it can sometimes help identify a path-specific connection problem. User reports about HiAnime were inconsistent: some described improved access, while others said the player stopped working. A VPN cannot revive a service that has shut down, authenticate a clone, or guarantee that a block will be bypassed. It may also trigger CAPTCHA loops or login problems, and free VPNs can carry privacy, advertising, malware, and bandwidth risks. Do not pay for a VPN solely to reach a service that appears to be offline, and follow any workplace, school, ISP, or regional rules that apply.
What to do if you visited a suspicious site
- Close the tab and do not install anything it prompted you to download.
- Remove any extension or app you installed, review recent downloads, and revoke suspicious notification permissions in your browser settings.
- Run your operating system’s built-in security scan.
- If you entered a password, change it anywhere you reused it. Turn on multifactor authentication where available.
- If you submitted card or bank details, contact your bank or card issuer and monitor for unusual activity.
Legal ways to watch anime
If the original service remains unavailable, use licensed services rather than searching for mirror domains. Crunchyroll and HIDIVE focus on anime, while Netflix offers a broader entertainment catalog. Hulu may be relevant to U.S. viewers. Official broadcasters and publishers may also stream selected titles. Catalogs, subtitles, dubs, simulcasts, plans, and availability vary by country and change over time, so check each service’s current offering for your location; no particular title is guaranteed to be available.
