Yes, Hulu works on supported Roku TVs and streaming players—but not every Roku model is compatible. Search for Hulu in the Roku Streaming Store on your device and check Hulu’s current supported Roku list before relying on an older model guide. Adding the app is generally free; watching Hulu requires an active subscription or a valid offer.
This guide is for viewers in the United States. Hulu + Live TV has additional location, channel-availability, and device requirements. Plan prices below were checked on August 18, 2026, and can change.
What you need to watch Hulu on Roku
- A Roku TV or Roku streaming player that Hulu currently supports.
- An internet connection. A stable broadband connection is especially important for live TV and higher-quality video.
- A free, activated Roku account. Roku says account creation and device activation are free, though Roku may ask for a payment method for purchases or subscriptions. Roku account information
- A Hulu account with an active subscription, trial, or eligible promotion, plus the login details associated with it.
- For Hulu + Live TV, a U.S. location and location access where required.
Roku and Hulu accounts are separate. Owning a Roku does not include a general Hulu subscription, and adding the Hulu app does not start a paid plan by itself.

Check whether your Roku supports Hulu
Compatibility depends on the exact Roku model, its software, the app version, and region. Roku TVs and standalone Roku players can have different support lifecycles. A Hulu button on an older remote is not proof that the device can still install or run the current app.

- On the Roku, open Settings > System > About and note the model and software version.
- Open the Streaming Store or Search—the label varies by Roku interface—and search for Hulu.
- Compare the device with Hulu’s current supported Roku models. Use Hulu’s page rather than an old model-number list.
- If needed, update Roku software at Settings > System > Software update > Check now, then search again.
If Hulu is not listed after the update, the model may be unsupported, the device or account may be set to another region, or the Store may not have synchronized. Installing an app on a linked Roku does not guarantee the hardware will perform well or remain supported.
Install Hulu on Roku
- Press Home on the Roku remote.
- Open Streaming Store or Search.
- Search for Hulu and select the official Hulu app.
- Choose Add app. Enter your Roku account PIN if one is enabled.
- Open Hulu from the Home screen when installation finishes.
You can also add the app through Roku’s web Channel Store or Roku mobile app. Apps are associated with the Roku account, so adding one may synchronize it to other Roku devices linked to that account. Removing it can affect linked devices too.
If you cannot find Hulu, do not download a third-party “activation” app or pay an intermediary. Check your model, region, Roku software, and the official Hulu device list first.

Sign in or activate Hulu
- Open Hulu on Roku and choose Log In.
- Use the sign-in option shown in the app. Depending on the app and device, you may enter your email and password with the remote or complete a browser/device activation flow.
- Follow the displayed instructions and confirm that the account shown is the one with your subscription.
Not every Roku displays the same activation screen. Follow the method Hulu presents rather than assuming that every viewer must use a particular activation-code page. If you subscribed through Roku, you still sign in to Hulu with the Hulu credentials created for the service; billing management is a separate matter. Roku’s app sign-in guidance
Hulu plans and prices on Roku
Choose the Hulu plan based on what you want to watch; the Roku device does not determine the subscription price. Hulu’s on-demand plans provide its streaming library, while Hulu + Live TV adds live channels and related features. These are dated price signals, not guaranteed offers. Hulu may show different promotions to new, returning, or otherwise eligible subscribers. The Live TV page also describes Disney+ and ESPN access through their respective apps, subject to plan terms. Review the terms shown at signup.
Ads, DVR, and simultaneous viewing
- Hulu (With Ads) costs less than the ad-free on-demand option but includes ads.
- Hulu Premium/No Ads generally removes ads from much of the Hulu on-demand library, but some titles can retain limited advertising or promotional interruptions. It does not make live TV ad-free.
- Hulu + Live TV combines Hulu’s library with live programming. Live broadcasts and some on-demand content can contain ads.
- Hulu + Live TV includes Unlimited DVR at no additional charge; recordings can be stored for up to nine months, according to Hulu’s plan page.
- The standard Live TV plan allows viewing on two screens at once. Hulu advertises an Unlimited Screens add-on; check current account terms for price, availability, and restrictions.
These limits concern simultaneous viewing, not how many Roku devices can have the app installed. The Hulu, Disney+, ESPN, and add-on terms may differ by service.
Subscribe through Hulu or through Roku?
You can subscribe directly with Hulu or, where offered, through Roku. Both routes require a Hulu login for ordinary viewing, but the company processing payment affects where you manage charges and whom you contact.

Before signing up or canceling, check my.roku.com/subscriptions, your Hulu account’s subscription page, and your bank or card statement. Hulu + Live TV on Roku: location and channel limits
Hulu + Live TV works only on select Roku and Roku Stick models, not every device that can run other Roku apps. Confirm the exact model on Hulu’s supported-device page and the Live TV plan page before subscribing.

Live TV is a U.S. service, available in the 50 states and the District of Columbia subject to Hulu’s terms. Channels can vary by ZIP code and local market. Local affiliates, regional sports rights, blackouts, and location verification can affect what appears. A channel missing from your lineup may be a market or rights issue rather than a Roku playback fault. Avoid treating a VPN as a routine fix: it can interfere with location checks and may conflict with service terms.
Troubleshoot common Hulu-on-Roku problems
Hulu is missing from the Roku Store
- Check Settings > System > About for the model and software version.
- Run Settings > System > Software update > Check now, then restart the Roku.
- Confirm the device is linked to the Roku account and region you intend to use; search the Store again.
- Check Hulu’s supported Roku list.
- If it remains unavailable, contact Hulu or Roku support. Do not install unofficial activation tools.
Hulu opens but will not sign in
Verify the email tied to the subscription. It may differ from the email you use for Disney+, a mobile provider, a cable bundle, or a promotion. Check that the subscription is active and that you have not created a second Hulu account.
- Sign out of Hulu on Roku if possible, then restart Roku.
- Reopen Hulu and use the sign-in method displayed by the app.
- If the password is the problem, use Hulu’s official account recovery rather than a third-party support page.
- Check the subscription with the company that bills you. Reinstall the app only after you have confirmed your login details.
Hulu buffers, freezes, or looks blurry
- Test another Roku app to see whether the issue is Hulu-specific.
- Restart Roku and your router.
- Improve the Roku’s Wi-Fi signal, reduce other high-bandwidth activity, or use Ethernet if the model supports it.
- Check whether the fault affects one title, all Hulu content, or all Roku apps; this helps separate a title, service, app, or network problem.
- If the issue persists, consult official support. The connection needed can vary with resolution, device, and simultaneous streams, so a single speed figure is not a guarantee.
Hulu crashes or returns to the Roku Home screen
Restart Roku, install any available Roku software update, and check that Hulu is current. If the app remains unstable, remove and reinstall it, then sign in again. A different network can be a useful temporary diagnostic, but it is not a required permanent workaround. Reinstallation cannot restore compatibility to a Roku model Hulu no longer supports.
Hulu says “subscribe” even though you paid
The most common causes are signing into the wrong Hulu account, confusing Roku billing with direct Hulu billing, an incompletely activated bundle, or an expired promotion. Confirm the email used for the purchase, check the Hulu account, and check Roku subscriptions if Roku is the billing party. Close and reopen Hulu after account changes. Contact the company responsible for the charge rather than assuming Roku and Hulu can each manage the same subscription.
Live TV shows the wrong local channels
Confirm Hulu’s location settings and the ZIP code or market associated with the account, then check Hulu’s lineup information. Local station availability and sports blackouts depend on location and rights. A missing local channel does not necessarily indicate an app failure.

When should you replace your Roku?
Consider replacing the device if Hulu’s current list excludes its model, the app is no longer available in its Store, or it cannot receive software updates. If it is supported but sluggish, first check Wi-Fi, update Roku, and reinstall Hulu. For a replacement, favor a current model confirmed on Hulu’s support list and appropriate for your TV and network; a higher-priced Roku does not by itself guarantee better Hulu quality. Avoid buying a discontinued model merely because its remote has a Hulu shortcut.
For a new Roku player or Streaming Stick, connect power and HDMI, select the right TV input, join Wi-Fi (or Ethernet where supported), install updates, complete display setup, and activate a free Roku account before adding Hulu. If your Roku is unsupported, Hulu may still be available through a supported smart TV, game console, or other streaming platform. Check that device’s current Hulu compatibility before buying anything; each alternative uses its own app store and account ecosystem.

Can multiple Roku devices use one Hulu account?
You can install Hulu on multiple compatible Roku devices, but the number of simultaneous streams depends on your Hulu plan and any applicable add-on limits.
Does Hulu No Ads remove every advertisement?
No. Some on-demand titles may have limited ad interruptions, and live programming has ads.
Can I use a VPN with Hulu Live TV?
