To stop Amazon Music from continuing with similar tracks after your selected music ends, open the app and go to Profile → Settings (gear) → Autoplay, then switch it off. If the music is playing on an Echo or another Alexa device, turn off Alexa’s separate Autoplay setting too: Alexa → More → Settings → Music & Podcasts → Autoplay.
Menu names can vary by device and app version, and some users do not see the toggle. These steps reflect Amazon guidance available as of August 18, 2026.
Turn off autoplay in the Amazon Music app
- Open the Amazon Music app.
- Tap your profile icon, usually in an upper corner.
- Tap the Settings gear.
- Find Autoplay and switch it off. In some versions, it may be listed under Playback.
Amazon staff’s recent guidance uses the profile-and-settings route, but the precise layout can vary. If you do not see the option, check the older layout as a fallback: open Home or Library, tap the Settings gear, then look under Settings → Playback → Autoplay. This alternate route is not present in every version. Amazon’s current forum guidance describes the newer path and notes a Fire tablet case where the control was not available.

On Android, use Profile → Settings gear → Autoplay → Off, checking the Playback section if needed. Start an album or playlist afterward and let its final track finish to confirm the change in the same app.

iPhone and iPad
Use the same route: Profile → Settings gear → Autoplay → Off. Some iPhone and iPad users report seeing the toggle, while others do not, so it is not safe to assume it appears on every iOS account or app build. If it is missing, update Amazon Music from the App Store, force-close and reopen it, then check again. If playback is coming from an Echo, change Alexa’s setting as well.
Fire tablets
Look under Profile → Settings gear, then search for Autoplay or Playback. If neither appears, install available Amazon Music and Fire OS updates, then restart the app. Amazon’s support discussion documents a Fire HD 10 where the setting was not found, so there is no universal menu path guaranteed for every Fire build.

Turn off autoplay for Alexa and Echo
When playback comes from an Echo or another Alexa-enabled device, change the Alexa control separately:
- Open the Alexa app.
- Tap More, then Settings.
- Choose Music & Podcasts.
- Tap Autoplay and switch it off.
You can also try saying “Alexa, turn off autoplay” or “Alexa, disable autoplay.” Amazon’s Alexa help covers music and autoplay controls. After changing the setting, test playback on the Echo itself by playing a known album or playlist through its final item. Changing the setting in the Amazon Music phone app does not necessarily change Alexa’s behavior.

Stop podcasts from playing automatically
Amazon support has not documented a separate podcast-only autoplay switch. Check the general Autoplay setting in Amazon Music; it may affect both music and podcasts. If a podcast continues on an Echo, also check Alexa → More → Settings → Music & Podcasts → Autoplay. There is no supported promise that you can disable continuation for podcasts while keeping music autoplay enabled. See Amazon’s response about podcast autoplay.

- Check both controls. If the problem happens on a phone, check Amazon Music; if it happens on an Echo, check Alexa. For mixed use, check both.
- Inspect the queue. Tracks already in the queue can play after the current song or album without being added by autoplay. Remove unwanted items from the queue and test again.
- Check Repeat and Shuffle. Repeat may replay the current item or list; Shuffle changes the order of items already in a queue or playlist. Neither is the same as adding similar songs after the selection ends.
- Check what you started. A playlist or station is meant to continue through its contents, unlike a single selected track. Stop the current session and test with a specific album or playlist whose end you can identify.
- Review Alexa routines. A routine can independently start or resume music. In Alexa, open More → Routines and review routines that run at a set time or after a trigger. Amazon describes unexpected music starts and routine checks in its support discussion.
- Consider the plan and request type. Turning off autoplay stops the continuation feature where that control applies; it may not override plan, catalog, on-demand, shuffle, or device-streaming restrictions. Some requests may result in a playlist or similar-artist playback rather than one exact track. Do not assume every unexpected song is the autoplay toggle.
- Allow the change to take effect. Close and reopen the app, restart the device, and test again. If the setting is missing or appears not to save, update the app and device software. On devices that offer it, clear the app cache. Reinstall only if needed, and remember downloaded music may need to be downloaded again.
Autoplay is missing
First check both Autoplay and Playback within Amazon Music settings; the label or location may have changed. Update the app and operating system, close and reopen Amazon Music, and sign out and back in if the control still does not appear. On a Fire tablet, update Fire OS too. If the issue persists, contact Amazon Music support with your device model, app version, and account plan.

Check the interface on your own device rather than relying on a plan-based assumption.

Autoplay is not Car Mode or automatic resume
Autoplay means continuing with additional or similar content after the selected playback ends. It is different from Car Mode, which changes the app interface for driving, or a setting that launches Car Mode automatically when the phone connects to a vehicle. Amazon documents automatic Car Mode launch separately. If music starts when a car connects, check the vehicle connection, app launch behavior, and any routines rather than assuming Autoplay is responsible.
Likewise, music that resumes after an interruption may be resuming the previous session, not starting similar songs because Autoplay is on. Test whether playback begins immediately on connection or only after the selected album or track ends; that distinction points to the relevant setting.
Desktop and web player
Amazon’s published support guidance clearly identifies the mobile-app and Alexa routes, but does not provide a stable, current official path for the desktop web player. If you use a browser, look for an Autoplay control in the player or account settings. If it is missing or has no effect, use the Amazon Music app or Alexa app to check the relevant setting, then verify behavior in the same environment where the problem occurs.
