This is a historical guide to children’s series that premiered, received a new season, or were announced for Netflix during 2019—not a promise that they are still streaming today. Release dates and availability could vary by country, and Netflix’s catalog has changed since then.

The January dates appeared in a contemporary 2019 Netflix kids’ preview. Carmen Sandiego’s January 18 launch was also announced by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Netflix’s announcements provide evidence for the broader preschool and animated slate, though an announced title is not the same as a confirmed release date.

The January premieres and returning seasons
A Series of Unfortunate Events, Season 3
The final season was listed for January 1, 2019. This live-action adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s books is a more involved choice than a preschool cartoon: it follows an ongoing story and uses suspense, peril, and a deliberately gloomy comic tone. It may suit readers who enjoy mysteries and literary adaptations, but parents should preview it for children sensitive to danger or dark humor.

Pinky Malinky
Also listed for January 1, this animated comedy follows a talking hot dog navigating school and friendship. Its oddball premise and comedy make it an option for children who like silly, unconventional humor. It is a lighter alternative to a serialized drama, though its jokes may land differently with different ages.

Carmen Sandiego
The animated series launched January 18. Carmen’s globe-spanning adventures can prompt conversations about geography, places, and cultures, as well as the difference between stealing and returning stolen objects. Treat those themes as conversation starters rather than formal instruction. The mix of action and schemes makes it a stronger fit for school-age viewers than toddlers.
Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, Season 5
The fifth season was scheduled for January 18. Its colorful musical comedy is an easy starting point for children already drawn to the Trolls characters, and is likely a better match for younger viewers seeking cheerful, familiar entertainment than for children looking for a complex story.

Preschool choices and the wider 2019 slate
Netflix described its preschool programming strategy as aimed at children ages 2–6, with a mix of comedy, educational curiosity, nonverbal formats, and social learning. That is a description of intended audience and variety, not a guarantee that every title suits every child. The announcement named shows including Ask the StoryBots, Chip and Potato, Mighty Little Bheem, Motown Magic, Super Monsters, True and the Rainbow Kingdom, Word Party, and YooHoo to the Rescue, alongside planned projects. Adventure and comedy for older children
DreamWorks Dragons: Rescue Riders
Announced for 2019, this series takes place in the How to Train Your Dragon universe. Its fantasy setting, dragons, and rescues make it a natural step up from toddler programming for children who enjoy creature adventures. Expect action and peril typical of the premise; check the local maturity rating and preview it if your child is easily unsettled.

Netflix’s November 2019 animation announcement gave this Japanese animated comedy a November 22 date. Its unusual comic premise may appeal to children who like offbeat animation. Netflix’s announcement also covered family films, but Klaus, released November 15, is a movie rather than a series and is not included in this TV list.

Fast & Furious: Spy Racers
The animated series was dated December 26, 2019, in the same Netflix animation announcement. It brings the franchise’s cars, missions, and action into a children’s series. It is a better prospect for older children interested in high-energy adventure than for preschoolers; teamwork is part of the story, but the show is not a formal educational program.
How to choose by age, mood, and viewing style
- For preschoolers: Start with Mighty Little Bheem or Go! Go! Cory Carson; also consider the broader preschool shows Netflix highlighted, such as Chip and Potato and Word Party. These are editorial starting points, not official age ratings.
- For an early elementary viewer: Try Pinky Malinky for eccentric comedy, Trolls: The Beat Goes On! for music, or Carmen Sandiego for adventure.
- For geography and curiosity: Choose Carmen Sandiego as a springboard for looking up the places in the story. Ask the StoryBots, from Netflix’s preschool slate, is the more direct science-and-questions option.
- For a continuing story: A Series of Unfortunate Events rewards following episodes in order, but its darker tone calls for more parental judgment.
- For action: Consider Dragons: Rescue Riders or Fast & Furious: Spy Racers for children ready for more peril and excitement.
- For a light laugh: Try Pinky Malinky or the musical Trolls series, depending on whether your child prefers absurd humor or familiar characters and songs.
Age bands here are broad editorial guidance, not official Netflix ratings. Children vary in their responses to suspense, villains, slapstick, and fast-paced action. What “on Netflix in 2019” does—and does not—mean
This list focuses on series that premiered, received a new season, or were specifically included in Netflix’s 2019 programming plans. It is not a complete inventory of every older children’s show that may have been available during that year, and it does not claim that every announced title arrived in every country on the date stated. It also excludes films and avoids treating a 2020 plan as a 2019 release.
Most importantly, historical availability is not current availability. Netflix’s U.S. kids and family catalog is a live listing, not a record of what streamed in 2019.
