To use an AT&T-included HBO Max or Max benefit, open the streaming app or website, choose Sign in, then choose Connect to Provider (or similarly worded provider sign-in). Select AT&T and enter the AT&T ID for the eligible service. When the provider confirms access, create a streaming account or link your existing one. After setup, you’ll normally sign in with your HBO Max/Max email and password.
You need an eligible, active benefit; having AT&T service by itself does not guarantee access. During the 2026 name transition, screens and help pages may say either Max or HBO Max.
Before you sign in
- Confirm the benefit is included and active. Check the current AT&T account, plan details, order confirmation, or bill. Some eligible plans also require activation.
- Use the right AT&T ID. It must be associated with the wireless, internet, or TV service that carries the benefit. If you have several AT&T accounts or IDs, your usual login may not be the right one.
- Open or update the app. Install the HBO Max/Max app on your device, or use the service’s website. App labels can vary by device and version.
AT&T’s support FAQ lists some legacy wireless plans that included the benefit, such as Unlimited Elite, Unlimited Plus, Unlimited Choice variants, and Unlimited &More Premium. These are historical eligibility examples, not a promise that a new customer can get the benefit today. A former Fiber promotion for Internet 1000, 2000, and 5000 ended June 5, 2022; changing or moving service could remove it. Check your own current entitlement rather than relying on an old plan list or promotion.

First-time sign-in and activation
- Open HBO Max/Max and select Sign in.
- Choose Connect to Provider, Sign in with a Provider, or the equivalent option.
- Select AT&T.
- Enter the AT&T ID and password tied to the service with the benefit.
- If prompted, create a streaming account or connect the provider benefit to an existing HBO Max/Max account.
For some plans, connecting through the app completes activation; others may show a separate activation prompt or link in your AT&T account. Activation establishes or connects the benefit. Provider connection links AT&T’s eligibility to your streaming account. Once that is done, ordinary sign-in uses the streaming account credentials.

If you’re new to HBO Max/Max
Complete the account form when prompted, create an email and password for the streaming account, then choose a profile to start watching.
If you already have an account
Enter the email address for your existing streaming account. If you see an Account Found message, choose Verify Email or Verify Email Address, retrieve the one-time code from your email, and confirm that you want to connect the provider benefit. This is the way to keep your existing profiles, My List, and viewing history. See Max’s provider-connection instructions.
Sign in on a TV
- Open the HBO Max/Max app on the TV or streaming device and choose Sign in.
- Select the provider sign-in option, then choose AT&T.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. If the app offers an activation code or QR code, use a phone or computer to open the displayed sign-in page and enter or scan the code.
- Complete AT&T verification and, if asked, create or connect your streaming account.
Not every device displays the same buttons or offers the same code flow. The essential step is signing in through the provider and selecting AT&T. AT&T’s device guide shows an older flow labeled SIGN IN → SIGN IN WITH A PROVIDER → AT&T; current app wording may differ.

Which password should you use?
Use the AT&T ID and password for the initial provider verification. After the benefit is connected, use the HBO Max/Max email and password for normal streaming sign-ins on this and other devices. You generally won’t need to repeat provider setup on every device, though a device may ask you to verify again.
If the benefit comes from a qualifying DIRECTV account rather than AT&T, select DIRECTV as the provider and use the credentials for that account. AT&T and DIRECTV appear as separate provider choices in AT&T’s device instructions.
If AT&T is missing from the provider list
Look for an option to view all providers or search by name; the full list may extend beyond the logos shown first. Max’s provider list includes information on finding a provider. If AT&T still does not appear, verify that you are using the provider sign-in path and that the benefit is attached to your account. If your entitlement is through DIRECTV, select DIRECTV instead.

Fix “Can’t Verify Your Subscription” or a subscribe prompt
Before buying another subscription, check whether the problem is eligibility, account linking, or the app itself. Try these steps in order:

Sign out of the streaming app, start provider sign-in again, select AT&T, and use the ID associated with the eligible service. If AT&T offers an account hint, use it to identify the right login.
- Check activation and account ownership. Look in your AT&T account for an HBO Max/Max activation or entertainment-benefit prompt. AT&T says access under the referenced wireless arrangement goes to the wireless account owner; another household member may need to use a profile on that owner’s streaming account rather than authenticate with a different AT&T ID.
- Confirm the plan has not changed. A plan change can remove a wireless benefit, and the cited former Fiber promotion could be lost after a move or service change. If the entitlement ended, changing passwords or reinstalling the app will not restore it.
- Check Apple single sign-on if you use an Apple device. AT&T documents a possible Apple SSO issue. If you see “Can’t Verify Your Subscription,” disable Apple single sign-on and reopen the app. For an “Unhandled Exception,” AT&T’s stated workaround is to choose Cancel and retry.
- Rule out an app or connection problem. Test your internet connection on another device, restart the device, update the app, and, if needed, delete and reinstall it. These steps help with app problems, not with an expired or ineligible benefit.
If AT&T’s account does not show an active benefit, contact AT&T about eligibility or activation. If AT&T confirms the entitlement but the streaming account still fails, use Max sign-in and provider troubleshooting.
If you’re asked to subscribe or already pay separately
Pause before starting a new paid plan. Verify the AT&T entitlement, activation, correct ID, and any recent plan change first. Also check whether the streaming account is already billed directly or through another provider. A separate subscription and an AT&T benefit are distinct billing arrangements; connecting AT&T does not by itself establish that an existing paid subscription should be canceled. Review the subscription area of your streaming account and its billing information before making changes.

If your AT&T benefit is unavailable or has ended, you can consider a direct subscription, but check the current U.S. offer and price at the official Max signup page. Prices and plan names can change. Buying a streaming device or changing AT&T service will not fix an invalid entitlement; confirm any current offer before switching plans.

The service’s branding and help pages are transitioning between the names. During summer 2026, you may encounter both labels in the app, provider instructions, and AT&T materials. The provider-linking process is the important part; choose the corresponding HBO Max/Max app and follow its provider sign-in path. The official help center carries the transition notice.

What if I have AT&T internet but not wireless?
Eligibility depends on the specific internet package or promotion, not simply having AT&T internet. Check your current AT&T account or plan details; the Fiber offer described in AT&T’s FAQ was a former promotion that ended June 5, 2022.
Can a family member sign in with their own AT&T ID?
Access rules depend on the entitlement. AT&T says the wireless account owner receives access under the wireless arrangement described in its FAQ. A household member may need to watch through a profile on the owner’s streaming account.
What if I use DIRECTV?
If the streaming benefit comes from a qualifying DIRECTV account, choose DIRECTV—not AT&T—in the provider list and authenticate with the DIRECTV account credentials.
